Starocci Offered $1.25 Million to Wrestle for PSU Next Year

Slight correction. Everyone who started and reshirted in 2020 and all those who started and wrestled in 2021 had the opportunity to win 5 championships. Carter redshirted in 2020.
You are still forgetting guys like Fix,(the ONLY 4x runner up) who started much earlier, but happened to be redshirting in 2020....so, the straightforward answer is ANYONE who happened to be redshirting in 2020 and then wrestled in 2021, or wrestled as a true freshman in 2021, had the "opportunity" to wrestle 5 seasons and win 5 championships....

I'm not whining about it. I'm stating my belief/opinion, so get over it.
Yeah, well, that's just, like, your opinion , man.

Cstar seems like an immature kid who I want nothing more than to be humbled, preferably by a hawk, but the fact is he has the chance to be a 5x champion.

So get over it?

You're correct, so there are even more guys who had the opportunity, and now that I think about it all those who started in 2021 had the opportunity, not just those who wrestled. Aaron Brooks is a good example of someone who started and wrestled in 2020, so he was limited to 4 titles. I guess Aaron would be kinda pissed if he wasn't heading to the Olympics.

The problem is that many have a hard time reconciling that 2021 was in NO WAY a fix for what happened in 2020. That was never even considered.

2021 was only a “free year” because it was perceived as a “compete at your own risk” season, not only due to the possibility of it being shut down, but the increased likelihood of possible exposure to the virus itself….

Let's be clear. Although it did suck for Lugo, Kollin Moore was the one that was hosed the most severe. He was a MASSIVE favorite to win it that year. Having taken 3rd, 4th and 2nd coming into his last season, it was finally there for the taking.

Meanwhile, although it sucked for guys like Lugo and Pletcher, they did have losses to Sasso and Lee, respectively. The rest of the top contenders either had already at least won a Title, would do so later on, or were able to take advantage of the "free year" in 2021.....
Mark Hall and Vincenzo Joseph were denied a shot at their third. IMO they should've allowed anyone wrestling that year one more year combined with the extra COVID year. The organizing bodies for many of these sports were flying blind and I think giving the 20/21 athletes one more year would've made a bad situation a little better.

I am well aware. The last sentence was specific to them......

As far as giving one more year to the 2020 class goes, the logistics were too much for those "in power" to even want to wade into. Only certain sports, in certain divisions, were directly affected. In a perfect world they would have found a way. Sadly, we are FAR from perfect...

Yeah, it is my opinion.
Get over what?? It's not like I'm losing sleep over him getting a chance to be a 5X.

Correct. so that's 2 whole classes who had the opportunity* to win 5.

edit: and 2020 redshirters not in the Ivy (Yianni could have actually been the first 5xer)

All true, many things were out of the hands of the governing bodies.

I was really disappointed last year when he lost in the semis and lost his chance to be the only 5-time runner-up ever.

Lol, in his defense he hit Arujua in the semis, NOONE was beating Vito that weekend!
That is true. Vito may not have been the most dominant wrestler in NCAA history overall, but he saved his best for the business end of nationals the last two years.

I was referencing t8kudwn saying it was his opinion and that another poster should 'get over it.'

I'm glad marinelli got 4 big tens too. Cstar has a chance to get a 5th national title and that's a fact, it is what it is, he needs to 'get over it.'

There is nothing for me to "get over". Like I said earlier, I'm not losing any sleep over it. It's just not something I agree with. Yeah, it's cool that Alex got 4 Big Ten titles, but it should be mentioned that was in 5 years of wrestling in the Big Ten tournament. He placed 6th as a freshman. I'm a big fan of Alex's and love his hardnosed style of wrestling, but 4 titles in 4 years of wrestling in the tournament is way cooler than 4 titles in 5 years of wrestling in it.

True But lugo was a hawk

Mark was denied a shot at 2 titles not 3.

I don’t see how it’s messed up, it’s just an anomaly due to an overreaction to a virus. He got an extra year like others and he’s capitalizing on the opportunity .

If yiu recall at one time freshmen were ineligible, depriving all of those wrestlers of a chance to win 4. So prior to January of 1972 no freshman could play their first year.

It’s just a rule change and everyone will know the whys as we move forward. My gripe is taking away the championships from the seniors in the 2020/2021 year. Imo it would be better if they had one more year, or both .

That is what bothers me. I feel awful for guys like Lugo, Cenzo, Hall & Kolin Moore (among others). They got completely screwed!
