2 players that we had a legit shot at and would have put this team over the top are, Joey Hauser & DJ Carton. Our misses in 18 & 19 are going to be our Achilles heal come tournament time. We could have really used an Olaseni type big and a Tony Perkins type wing, for the bench, in either if those classes too. Our top 8 STILL being limited athletically as a whole, has been my biggest worry about this season. I luv this team, just a perfectionist about my teams rosters.🤷♂️🤷♂️
Whats crazy is Fran was in on Jalen Suggs well before everyone else; pretty sure he attended a lot of his games in Minneapolis, too
Not sure why Jalen wouldn't want to play in the B1G vs the weak competition he will be playing against very soon

I’m sure he’ll review tapes & have the discussion to improve but Fran is evidently fiercely loyal & doesn’t tend to change lineups. I suspect JBo will be the starter the rest of the year unless JBo’s game goes really south.
Exactly, he really can’t create his own shot. Especially against quicker PGs. He’s far more effective off the ball.
Saturday was pretty far south.
I feel he would be most effective playing 15-20min at the 2 strictly running off screens trying to get open for 3’s. Even if he isn’t making shots he’s definitely keeping a defenders attention and wearing them down chasing him. I think over the year he will contribute, just not in the way we’ve seen in the past. But his whole career has really been a surprise as a 6’ not overly athletic pg who wasn’t highly recruited, so who knows maybe he gets back to form 🤷♂️
i doubt fran benches JBo unless Jbo tells him to (he surely sees that Joe is playing better right now)
in the bigger games, should Fran stick w/ a 9 man rotation or go to 7/8?
My opinion, I probably wouldn't play him much at all.
I think Fran continues to start him all year.
Im hoping more JT minutes though.

Regarding JoeT’s offensive game vs Gonzaga.
#1. With a 15-20 pt lead, you’re telling your Zags players to what? Do NOT foul, we‘d rather give up a layup than create a fouls that stops the clock and the made FTs will allow IOWA to set up there full court press. So, this play to the strengths of a hard driving player like Joe. They just weren’t going to challenge him as much.
#2. Expect the B1G Coaches to coach their team to sag off JoeT and let him beat you with the jumper. Why Gonzaga insisted on playing Joe chest to chest 25 ft from the basket while IOWA had the court spread out is a coaching blunder that I don’t expect to see repeated.

Most of his penetration came off high ball screens with Garza.
Few decided to not let Garza's man help on the screen in the second half to prevent Luka from getting 3pt attempts.
He saw the ISU game.
If you don't help on a screen the ball handler is going to get in the paint.
Im hoping big ten teams play it traditionally , sag their big down or hedge or switch and let Luka have open 3s.
Either way the Tousaint Garza high screen will be basically impossible to stop because you can't take both options away.
Even if you have a big good enough to switch Luka will just shoot the 3 right over the pg.
You could always just play behind the screener and let JoeT shoot over the guy guarding Garza.
not saying any thing will work every time, but this is a strategy to defend an unproven shooter...
and one could argue that any defense that results in JoeT taking 3 pt FGA is a success versus the elite scoring alternatives...

Agree, increasing the # of times that JoeT can get the ball outta his hands and into Garza’s will help the teams efficiency and help the team be better.
Wouldn't be crushed if it happens but we are top 5, coming off a 15 point win against a team that swept the boys last year so if it ain't broke, don't break it.
I know the minute distribution. Like to see a little more Joey T this year. I'm just saying right now, while the team is playing pretty good collective ball, is probably not the best time to shake things up.
For example, maybe having Jordan on the floor provides some kind of leadership that reassures the players, or directs them or does some other very intangible thing. Clearly Jordan and Connor give this group a pair of tough guys and both are the kind of guys that don't come unraveled easily. Plus, a benefit of bringing in Joe T and P McC at the same time immediately increases the pace of the game. Kind of like a shock force that can break the spine of a wobbly but still competing opponent.
Next season I think all the talk will be about the Toussaint/Fredrick dominating back court.
I like the rotation with joe t and keegan murray. Ive said before i dont know that it matters who starts but that rotation changes the offense up and provides scores when we hit a drought. The opposing defense has a completely different team to defend.
The P McC, Ke Murray and Joe T line change certainly improves the defensive play as well. That zone trap is pretty good with P Mc in the middle and Joe T or Ke Murray chasing down the doubles.
I've been seeing it the same. That unit is our best defensively plus Fredrick. Would love to see Toussaint, Fredrick, PMcC, Murray and Garza get more minutes together going forward. Iowa really needs a good strong defensive unit it can turn to in games. The more this unit plays together the stronger they get this season. We saw them start clicking together on offense as well tonight.
I do like that line change, as long as Garza and either Wieskamp or CJF are in (for scoring options)
JBo has had his time. I'll refer to my original post here. If you're averaging less than 7 points a game, JoeT needs to start. I've seen enough
