You're right, and at least on my end it will end. Racisms can come in many forms. If you complain about whether a player is not playing up to his ability, maybe that could be called racism, When Bohannan was moved to the point guard position replacing Joe T was that racism. I'm sure at one time or another it was discussed by someone on here.
Now that 4 players have been picked as starters will the 5 player be Dembele or Koch or someone else. 8 days to go before the exhibition game.
Now going forward I will not make any more derogatory remarks toward LD. The question remains will he do the same. Supposedly, we're all Iowa fans on here with the same hopes and dreams of Iowa making the NCAA tournament with a high seed. I will stick to that.
Bowen was in Fran's doghouse early for whatever reason. And he was injured late in the season. Can't blame him for leaving the way Fran treated him. I sat right behind Iowa's bench when they played in San Diego & witnessed Fran staring right at Bowen & screaming at him. He wasn't even in the game at that point. He deserved to be starting & I cannot blame him for leaving with a coach that treated him this way in front of fans. As an Iowa fan (not a Fran hater) I was embarrassed the way Fran acted. Now if he would have been screaming at Pmac for lack of effort, I would have stood up and applauded.

Think about what you are saying. Bowen is a starter, not performing that badly, and is then sent to near the end of the bench. The little he played after, he didn't look at all like the same player. Why would he come back? It is the language in how you describe Bowen in your first post, when you probably know nothing about what was going on between him and Fran. You would go nuts if someone described your boy with such derogatory language.
As I've said, it wasn't Bowen's fault that he lost he's starting job. If Fran had done his homework and recruited competent players that could have played some facsimile of defense he might be still at Iowa. Was Bowen at his best in the 7 or 8 games he started, nobody was, but I expected him to be a little better 3 point shooter and run the offensive with a little more confidence.
I only went to the exhibition game last year and watching the games on television you're shielded from seeing the interaction of coach and players because of the commercials.
I hope you are including Mulvey in this "recruited competent players" thoughts.
No idea why Mulvey is still at Iowa because he's never going to see the court on a regular basis. He must be in a serious romantic relationship or something.

For someone with his length you'd think Fran would find a way to get him on the court for 2-3 minutes per half. But he must really be a punching bag in practice if he can't find the floor.

I like Brock but am looking forward to seeing what Thelwell can do. He averaged double figures and had a lot of assists last season and I think he will be a good defender. Both will play a lot. I like his size at the point guard position as well.
Yes, that is what I have seen. Fran threw Dix to the wolves when he had him play some PG vs ISU and that was brutal to watch. Dix might have improved enough to handle the job this year but that is TBD.....Dix probably can be part time PG when not facing elite guard defenders..
This year's team looks like a solid B1G 0.500 team. It's going to take some breakout surprises to get this team to Sweet16, but we can hope.
How do you know how good Brock is? If you're going off of last year, then that tells me you don't know a lot about basketball. Because Harding sucked last year.
What? You have been on this board for 9 years now and don't know that I went to the same high school that Brock went to? Dude, you have lived under a rock too long. For one thing, Brock along with Owen Freeman led Moline to a state 4A tittle in 2023 for the first time ever, you have no idea how hard it is for a school, any school, in Illinois to win a state championship that's not located in or around Chicago, they have to be really, really good. I've have followed Brock's development for the last 5 years. Seen over 150 games of his, I think I know what kind of player he is. He even was named player of the year in Illinois that year..
Heck, I've been called the biggest homer ever and then some. Whether that translates to the college level remains to be seen but I have yet seen many point guards play under 11 minutes and game and produced 89 assists in that amount of time, and I challenge you to come up with another past Hawkeye player in the McCaffery era that averaged better then 3.4 to 1 turnovers a game under Fran's coaching. He a pass first point guard that is also a really good shooter, but don't let me convince you, I'll let Brock do that for me, enjoy the season!
No….he didn’t suck. He had some freshman mistakes, but he also had some great assists (especially to Freeman) and some nice takes to the basket. He struggled some defensively but he’s scrappy, really quick, and intensely competitive. He showed a lot of potential.
Don't worry about it. herkhatescy was just trying to pull my chain and I thought I would go along with it. The only 2 people that doesn't know about Luka and my conversations about Brock are on the International Space Station.

Not really. If a post has Harding's name in it, I usually don't open it up. But it's a slow day waiting for Hawkeye football to start.
Harding plays with a chip on his shoulder and has some attitude. Things that most of Fran's teams have lacked. I still think Thelwell will start at point, but Harding will likely play as many or more minutes. With only 3 guards on the team they'll have to play together some. They need Harding to hit some 3's. If he can do that it opens up a lot of other options.
The petty bs between Luka and QC gets pretty old. Harding is better than Luka thinks and not as good as QC believes. As with most things the truth is somewhere in the middle. We all know Moline won a state title. Good for them. But what these guys did in high school stopped mattering the minute they graduated.

I haven't seen enough footage of this team playing together in practice to form any kind of strong opinion. So, until I see more of them actually playing together. I'm giving the nod to Dembele, over Traore. Love the clips I have seen of Traore though, but I really like what I saw last year from Laji. What I see in Brook is the kind of point guard that Fran really likes. I think he will take care of the ball well and his shot at the end of last year was getting way better than at the start of the year. I haven't seen anything that makes me go wow, when watching the few clips I've seen of Thelwell, but I would love to see him pan out. As far as how the team runs with him, I have no idea, but to say it works better with Brook. I'd say that's a strong statement when we have seen so little of the team running with Thelwell. I would love to see a strong point guard that can stay in front of his man though. I think Fran will go with Brook, but personally I'd love to see Thelwell's experience out there.
I just worry Fran will handcuff Harding and not let him play his game. The JoeT treatment where he gets yanked after a turnover. Harding needs to be given some rope for him to play at his best. I worry he will do some dumbass thing like put Dix at the one and Pryce at the 2.
I'm with you, I hope Fran let's Brock run the offense without fear of being pulled because of a mistake. Brock can run set offensives with the best of them, but his forte is improvising, and finding open players, he's quick, fast, turns on a dime, is a magician with the basketball. His height is a question mark for sure that may be a concern, but what I've seen even from last year when an opposing player begins to drag him into the interior he calls for a switch and he tries to stay away form under the basket. Doesn't work every time, he's going to get burnt occasional, but so does every player, even the best of them. He's the floor general that Iowa has longed for since Fran started at Iowa. Just give him a chance, he won't disappoint.

And Fran doesn't like guards to dribble as much as Harding does (remember JoeT?). He likes guards that can shoot the three & spread the court.

IllQC was wrong to call you racist. I think you are overly biased against Harding, but nothing more from what I can remember: But you are wrong by calling him racist with no evidence. Him Criticizing someone who is a different race does not constitute racism. Bowen certainly got the quick hook by Fran too often but he did not get the job done.
Bohannan wasn't installed in the starting lineup until the 29 of November 2016 against Notre Dame at South Bend.
Yes, Freeman, Payton, Dembele, Dix, and Harding. Other then a few individual point totals, no individual player minutes were given, but I'm guessing that all 13 scholarship players played and also the 3 walk-ons.

I think that sometimes McCaffery sees something in a player, call it greatness, that the player just doesn't want to work to achieve. Not saying that was the case with Bowen, but my expectations were raised when he got here and I don't believe he ever really met them. He never was the above average, consistent player I had hoped for. That's fine, if the player decides that being good, is enough and leaves the greatness for the next guy.
I've been so far removed from Iowa athletics for most of the Summer, and now all of a sudden we trot out our newest version of the Hawkeyes on Friday night. Unreal! Might as well feel positive until proven otherwise.
