Stats after 6 games

I am surprised Jok's shooting %'s are so low as I consider him to be a pure shooter. That should pick up.

As frequent as he shoots (1 shot every 2 mins) he needs to get his efficiency up to be a true asset on the offensive end of the floor. His shot selection at times is pretty bad at times and hopefully as that improves his %s will increase as well.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Seems like Jok shoots really good when he goes left with the ball or whenever he can catch it in rhythm.

Something I think is pretty weird? Let's compare these "two" guys.

Uthoff: 28.5 mpg. 18.2 ppg, .519 fg%, .464 3pt%, 5.7 reb
Uhl/Jones: 28.0 mpg. 11.8 ppg. .500 fg%, .483 3pt%, 5.3 reb.

Jok was lighting it up before this tournament. He shot 6/9 in the first three games from three point range and then shot about 20% in this tournament. If he had shot 40% we may have walked away with one or two more wins. Not blaming him, just pointing out how important it is to Iowa for him to stay on track. Not ready to panic though. Perhaps the rims in that venue just didn't suit him. Hope he gets back on track against Floridia state.

Very Valuable experience this weekend for Iowa. Many Positives and with some tweaks for 1st team, and some teaching of the young guys should be a fun year.

Take out his 3-15 game against Notre Dame and his numbers are a little more palatable.

Couple other interesting little tidbits, and yes I realize it's only 6 games into the season -- a lot can and will change:
In less than 10 min/game Wagner is 2nd on the team in offensive rebounds.
Nick Baer is 2nd in blocked shots with 4.
Dale Jones is shooting better from distance than from inside the arc.
Uhl is shooting better from 3 than from the FT line.
Fleming's FT shooting needs to pick up; well, all of his shooting needs to or else he's going to be sitting a lot because Ellingson seems pretty solid.

If only every player could take out their 1-2 bad games, the numbers would look more palatable. Or if we took out their best 1-2 games the numbers wouldn't look so hot. :) I know what you're saying though, and maybe a better way to say it is it's way too early to draw conclusions on Jok's shooting. We'll have a better idea how good a shooting team Iowa is by the time we reach the B1G opener or a few games into the conference games.

Yep, even good-great shooters will have an off game here or there. You know, if Jok shoots well the next few games it'll all wash out.
I know a lot of us have fond memories of Chris Kingsbury, but he wasn't knocking them down at a rate or 45% each and every game.

I really think Wagner needs to play more. He is pulling down 3 rebounds per game while playing 9 minutes. He is shooting 63 % from the field as well and limiting his turnovers (only 2 on the season). I would love to see what he can do playing about 15 to 17 mpg. I think he could give us around 6 pts and 6 boards a game and play solid defense in those minutes.

That is because Kingsbury took a lot of ill advised shots, from even beyond the NBA arc. Jok is not a great shooter. Most of Jok's 3's are set shots, they aren't coming off a screen or when he's on the move. His shot selection is not bad, so his percentage should be much higher if he was "great". Now a great shooter is Curry, Reggie Miller or Ray Allen (in his prime).

Jok has the range to be a good 3 pt shooter but right now he's still very inconsistent. I certainly wouldn't classify him as a "good-great" shooter at this time, but that could change as we progress through the season.

I think the growth of this team will depend a lot on how Wagner, Uhl, Ellingson and Baer progress, in particular Uhl and Wagner. I like it when Uhl is aggressive on offense and attacking his guy from the outside-in. Wagner just needs reps and he'll get even better defensively. Ellingson should shoot better as he acclimates to the speed of the game. Baer seems fairly comfortable already. Fleming is just a bonus, but Ellingson is eating up his minutes so he's more of a foul trouble substitute.
