Stock Market Today: Dow down almost 800 points, S&P 500, Nasdaq tumble after Trump refuses to rule out recession

This is short term pain. Steps are being taken to ensure the long term health of our nation's economic future. The days of other nation's taking advantage of America are over.
It is not binary. There are other, FAR better ways to achieve the same ends than this shitshow of fake Doge cuts, tariffs here one day and gone the next, etc.

The end does not justify the means. And in this case the means will not achieve the end you seek.

I would love to believe you but unfortunately it just isn't true. The bureaucracy had built the safety nets to protect itself.

The government attempted to make itself too big to fail ( wrong term don't care).

Do you think we send Canada more shit than they send us?

Who is it you think needs who in this situation?
Is it a zero sum game. Didn’t know the Canadian’s were on the verge of taking us over. It’s a cooperative relationship that has benefited both countries immensely.
They supported us after 9/11. Taking flights to New Found land. Supported us militarily in Afghanistan. Helped rescue hostages in Iran. Supported US Wildfire actions.

And we have just been a total asshole to them forever......

Nobody is on the verge of taking Canada over because nobody wants to **** with Canada's neighbor.

Good, good, let the anger and fear in, embrace it. We’re nearing capitulation meaning I have my finger on the buy button

I am 100% in favor of cuts, but the right way is to decide at the direction of Congress (or at least in consultation with congress) what is not necessary and simply cut it. If Congress decides we no longer need a department of education then fine - cut it.

But doing these unilateral peanut butter cuts without adjusting the service level expectation in this way is asinine. It’s why the cuts aren’t sticking nearly as much as Doge says and that is before we get into the serious legal challenges.

My guess is this will piss off so many people that when we have to do it again the right way no one will have the appetite. We are ruining the chance we have to drive true fiscal responsibility.

Love Canada because when we **** over someone. When traveling abroad I can just wear a Toronto Blue Jays hat and be treated well :).
The syrup eaters have always been on our side. Trump pushing them away. Is opening the door for China and the EU for better trade agreements. Hurting our interests long term.

As a moderate, none of this would be happening right now with Biden or Harris.

As a right leaning moderate, none of this would be happening under Biden or Harris. Man oh man what I would give to have Biden back in the oval office.

**** you Trump.

One silver lining, I have had more calls from Trump supporting clients today and boy oh boy is their tone changing.

again...trump negotiated and signed the agreement that governs US - Canada trade

so no...I didn't vote for the guy who wanted to give all our shit away (to the extent our current trade with Canada is "giving our shit away")
And again, Canada never honored it and Biden didn't do dick, so we are adjusting.

So you did vote for the guy who gave our shit away.

Anyone with any sense of what it takes to reduce staff and expense at scale knows this. I've fired more people than I've hired because I'm good at it and people bring me (well brought now that I'm out of the game) in to do it. The vast majority of people don't have the experience to know this is a clusterphuck that is going to blow up in our faces.

The bolded is what I'm most disappointed in. I was honestly very hopeful for DOGE and thought it might be a good thing to come out of a drumpf presidency. Instead, it's phuck up after phuck up, false claims that need walked back, snarky assholes doing the messaging, and trampling over our laws and privacy. People are going to have zero appetite for this again and these assholes are blowing it.

This dispute registration was about dairy tariffs. The 200% tariff on dairy gets thrown out there a lot as an example of where we are being taken advantage of by Canada. The reality is that the tariff goes on after a set amount of product goes to Canada. Before that the tariff is zero. We don't export enough there that the tariff matters. It's a red herring.

Feel free to read how it was viewed when Biden wanted to make corrections.

That red herring, exist because of limits Canada has imposed.

In my old company you would be known as the Hatchet Man…

Stock market was at a record high just about 2 weeks ago. This is what happens when you lead by chaos. What an absolute shit show.

Stagflation. It might be coming all because the president is an absolute moron. If it does, we are in big trouble.
If stagflation comes (I was a kid when it happened in the 1970s), it should be renamed Trumpflation (branding is key to the current President).

From the beginning we needed .to ask what makes Elon an expert in efficiency. The only recent story we can point at is Twitter. Comes in and fires 80% of workforce. Finds out what he wants to keep then rehires them. Twitter is still not making money. The user experience is worse. Input for content creators still are restricted if Elon doesn’t like your free speech. Transfer that skill set over to government. Where you are constrained by laws and the need of reliable services to be uninterrupted.
It was a bad fit from the beginning.

because there was a dispute over dairy exports? ok bud

I get it...you found one thing that was disputed and now that means the whole thing has been ignored and trump shouldn't take any ounce of responsibility for the trade deal that he negotiated and signed, but now thinks is terrible

I would say that's an incredibly dumb and disingenuous way to view trade between neighbors (of course there are going to be disputes and of course we aren't going to completely win every single one)...you unsurprisingly don't

That's a funny way of saying "you are right, I was ok with the last guy getting hammered by everybody else".

The #TrumpSlump continues.

Since January 21, 2025..

Dow down 5%
NASDAQ down 12%
S&P down 8%

All of this can be laid directly at the feet of Trump and his chaotic managing of the relationships with allies and tariffs and his dismantling of the Federal workforce causing uncertainty everywhere. Good job MAGAs.
It's 12D chess. Obviously they are jealous of the improvements Democrats always make to the economy because they pick it up right after the republicans have trashed it. So by intentionally trashing the economy in one year they can create room for a "recovery" next year that will really be them just putting most of the jobs they are cutting back. They can then say "Look at all the jobs we created!"

Or, they can continue shitting on the country and see just how badly they can abuse constituents and still stay in power. Either of those possibilities is equally possible.

I have read it and am not worried about those limits at all. It's making a mountain out of a molehill. I am for the USA aggressively pushing when there are unfair trade practices. In fact I've help argue the case on steel and tire tariffs on industry's behalf and had success. These blanket tariffs and reciprocal tariffs actually hurt our ability to argue the valid cases that go to the WTO. It sucks and is not going to help.

we are the victim...the constant battle cry of the trump supporter

I'd also point out that the dispute was settled through the processes established in Trump's trade deal...but I know that kind of nuanced detail has no chance against your victimhood forcefield

The days of us making sure everyone plays nicely, has a good time, and then covering the bill, are over.

We had people who allowed us to be on the negative end of trade deals across the world, those days are gone.

You just ignored examples, from a
.gov website, one of which discussed bidens own concerns, I gave on why they are rehashing and you think it is I who is simping.

Continuing to prop up and make excuses for the guy that constantly lied to him about all this. Always amazes me that the maga lemmings are willing to do that. So sad, to willingly have head in the sand syndrome.

You don't seem to be putting together who it is that lied to us.

The curve of fafo is not 30 days when discussing monetary policy.

A blind man should have seen our market was fake as shit with prop money.
