Stop the DeVries talk

We have four new teams joining the Big Ten next year ...

... and you guys want to attack that new schedule with a guy who has not even seen the other fourteen teams in our regular rotation?

As I remember when we hired Fran, we wanted a guy who focused on offense.

This criticism of our coaching. The Big Ten has 5-6 of the best coaches in the country. This includes Fran
Fran is not one of the best coaches in the country and it isn't even close, heck he probably not even one of the top 5-6 coaches in the BIG...he is a joke that blows up at the wrong time and can't coach defense to save his live and his rotations are puke worthy!!!

Serious question, nothing against PMac, Tucker, etc. Has a coaches son on the team, who is generally considered starter material overall.. has that ever really worked out, for any team at this level?

Tucker has worked out incredibly for Drake. He’s been the player of the year in the Valley the last 2 years. And before everyone says it’s the Valley there are currently 4 Valley players now playing huge roles for Illinois, Nebraska, Purdue and of course Iowa. Domask was 1st team all Big Ten this year.

Boheims kid was decent at syracuse if I recall correctly but for sure usually never works out

That needs to change. Can't wallow in apathy forever.
Money talks. Throw the bank at Bruce Pearl or someone proven who might be interested in being here (not sure if Pearl is or not, but the point remains, whoever that may be).

If the play is always going to be for a budget coach, then yeah, I guess mid-major coach is about all there is.

Iowa's athletic department may be a lot of things, but I didn't think "poor" was one of them.

It's just the reality of what this program is.
I remember once upon a time when ISU was looking for a coach. They called Johnny Orr (who had taken Michigan to the championship game) for a recommendation. He said "Why not me"?

No....I doubt Iowa would get a blue blood coach to come to Iowa......but to just assume no successful P5 coach would come to Iowa and not even try to get one.... that's a defeatist attitude.

There will never be enough incentive for a successful power 5 coach to come to Iowa and there's no reason for Iowa to take an unsuccessful one.

We have two choices, mid major or an assistant.

Sure. Using your theory, I hear Northwest Junior High in Coralville has a bang up coach. Should Beth Goetz speed dial the guy?
It's not a theory it's simply a reality.

Nothing about that would logically lead one to the stupid hypothetical you suggested.

Greg McDermott’s kid worked out well. 😉

They actually were inquiring about Bill Frieder & Orr asked how much are you paying.... When Orr heard the numbers he said "I'm available".

Why don't you call up Keno Davis? He had a better year at Drek than even future Hawkeye savior DeVries. I hear he's available.
