Summer vacations

My dad used to do this with a mountain cabin when he first bought it. Rented it out when he wasn't using it. They kept no personal possessions there other than towels, linens, dishware and stuff like that. All pictures on the walls, nick-knacks, TVs and stuff like that were engraved with a inventory number, and the management company would conduct an inventory while cleaning in-between guests.

Fly into Southern Oregon (Medford). It's about an 1.5 to the coast ... and about 25 miles North of California and the great Redwoods ... Scenic drive along Pacific Coast Highway ... Lots of great seafood along the way ... Hiking ... Medford is close to Ashland, Oregon ... neat little town ... Lots to see and do ... Weather will be comfortable that time of year ... You can stay in the valley or drive up into the mountains ... Grants Pass is another neat town about 45 minute drive from Medford ...

I loved in Medford for about 6 years ... Absolutely beautiful area ... and something different than the standard Florida trip ...

Heading out to Portland this summer for a wedding and am planning to turn in into a vacation. Any other tips you have for places to visit? I've been just starting to do some research on Mt. Hood, astoria, etc

Heading to the Tampa area next week. We'll be staying on Anna Maria island/Bradenton Beach in a house. Suggestions on things to do/places to see?
I just moved here in February, so I'm not the best person to ask. Maybe one of the Florida posters can chime in. I'm in Venice right now and am not really familiar with Bradenton. I do know there is a lot of Pro teams in spring training right now and I know the Orioles are in Sarasota, and I think the pirates are in the area as well so if you're into baseball maybe that's something to look into? I don't know how much driving around and whatnot that you want to do either. If you want to break away from the beach for a day, Busch Gardens is really cool and great for all age groups as it's basically a theme park with roller coasters and a Zoo. According to my weather forecast it should climb into the lower 80's next week, so that's looking good for the beach.

A friend of mine received this request to help plan a vacation. Not sure how long they have taken off but I hope it's a while:
I had talked to you earlier about a trip to Israel. We decided to stay in the States for now and save that for a later excursion.
We would like to spend a week at a private cabin or cottage near the Gulf of Mexico aprox. May 30-June 4. We prefer a secluded cabin in northern?? Florida with plenty of attractions within 1-2 hour driving distance. Access to private beach area would be a huge plus, too!
Any suggestions on cabins to check in with? I'm sure many are nearly booked for the summer season. And, with any suggested cabin, what would be a list of surrounding attractions?
We then will likely head to the Grand Canyon for a day or two.
Then, we want some input on attractions in the northern half of California. The sequoias are a must-see for us, and we'd like to spend some time in a more tropical area with palm trees, etc. Other interests would be agriculture (such as a tour of a mega-dairy), or good nature hiking in quiet parks with great scenery. We need 3-5 days worth of attractions to cover in CA.
We'd like to stop in South Dakota as well. Mount Rushmore and the Badlands and any other attractions in that area.
Let me know if you have any questions to help us out better.

Florida, Arizona, cool Califorina, tropics, South Dakota and a Dairy farm? That's some itinerary. Do they have a private jet? Just imagine what your request would look like after we invent a teleporter.

Grand Haven is a great idea actually. Just a short drive North is Muskegon and there is a small amusement park there called Michigan adventure. One price for the Amusement park and water park. Absolutely one of the best vacations ever. Also, if you just want to drive around the horn, Holland has a city beach called Tunnel Beach. No alcohol allowed, so the throngs of teenagers tend to stay away, so it is great for little kids. Save the cash for the kids vacation in Florida in three years, when you do not have the toddler, you will be glad you did.

My company has a condo in Naples, FL so we stay there pretty often and usually fly into Ft Myers. We also live in the DSM area but found inexpensive flights to Ft Myers (RSW) out of Kansas City. You might think about doing that. The sooner you can go after school gets out, the better. It will only get hotter and more humid as the summer progresses. Naples has a great zoo that your kids would enjoy and the beaches there are fantastic. You're kids are a little young for Disney and Universal right now but you will definitely want to go there in a few years.

I'm not as familiar with the Portland area. I know Mt. Hood is a great attraction. I visited Portland a handful of times ... Great city ... I just don't know enough to confidently give you any recommendations ...
