Swiderski

Just watched and I'm not seeing it. Kid is really talented for sure, but I saw Real chase him pretty much the entire 1st, I saw him not being able to get out from bottom for the entire 2nd, in the 3rd he made a nice counter to a bad shot from Real for the TD but he couldn't keep him down and that was about it. This was Real's Iowa debut in Carver, so if you're going to get him this was the time to get him but Woods controlled the entire match.

Here’s how I look at it. Real won a match by 2 without getting a td and getting taken down. That is easily replicated. And he can get a td too. Swiderski is good and likely places (possibly very high) but not sure he beats Real.
Agree. Swiderski is a top-level talent, will likely AA often, but I don't think he's all that dynamic, if his style is essentially being tough and aggressive and coming straight at you I think other top-level talent, especially guys who are quick and athletic, will be able to figure that out. I don't see him beating Real this year, could see Real widen the gap next time.

Almost a compliment.. Wait, no, no you didn't give one. My bad. :p
I'm just saying that now there's film on him and his tendencies. I don't expect him to give Woods more than what we saw today, but Woods will beat him worse should they meet again.

Swiderski has a LOT of growing up to do. The way he stomped off the mat reminds me of some kid where mommy told him to "go to your room".

What a punk. Perfect for Metcalf and Dresser.

I saw a giant chip on a true freshmen grow even bigger after losing a razor close match (1td-0) to a seasoned stud.
That kid absolutely hated losing in carver today. Woods rematch in March will be dead even odds at best

I"m sure you're right. Woods will look in March exactly how he looked in his first time out...or NOT. I'm with everyone else; the young freshman is scrappy...kind of like when Alex Meyer was scrappy against Mark Hall, who then went on to be NCAA champ in 2017 while Alex went 2-2 at NCAAs. I'm not saying the ISU kid isn't a stud, but let's keep it in perspective; it's Wood's first time on the mat this year.

To shitty on bottom to win it but he'll probably aa.
Why exactly didn't we go full bore after him?
He is from MI. I have said it on here a few times, Iowa has basically no foothold whatsoever here. Worst part is, it had been sitting ripe for the taking if Iowa came hard a few years ago, because PSU hadn’t made much of an effort either. However, they finally have. Boone didn’t work out, but I am pretty confident Facundo and Davis will.

I don’t know that there really is a team with a true inside track to MI talent other than UofM, but Iowa would have it’s work cut out for them if they started now, this late to the game…

I would favor Real in a rematch for a couple of the reasons you mentioned, but disagree that this was Swiderki’s best chance because it was in Carver with 15,000 bloodthirsty fans screaming against him.

He doesn’t like to lose and EXPECTED to win that match. I like that attitude. Comportment after loses were never the strong point of many wrestlers near and dear to our hearts, fellas..

I think he wins 141 this year. Hate to say it but
I like him a lot and wish he was a Hawk, but I’m not seeing it this year. He struggles on bottom and can’t ride at the D-1 level yet, that gets exploited in March. He’s got that heavy club that he converts into explosive take downs. Good wrestlers are going to scout that and make adjustments. He’s going to keep getting better and he certainly may have some titles ahead of him, but not this year IMHO.

For being just out of HS 6 months ago, it's pretty impressive that Swiderski could hang tough with Woods, an AA, ranked #3 in the country. ISU got him and they got a stud. I'm not predicting he's winning the NCAA title, but he'll be AA material for 4 years. Would've been nice to have him.

And it just adds further support for getting as many top 10 p4p guys as possible. He was #2, fwiw.

Yeah I didn't make my point very well. What I meant to say is that this was Real's first match of the season, it was his Iowa debut, and it was his first time in Carver. Similar to Hall for PSU losing in his debut and first match in Carver, I'd think this would be when Real is at his most vulnerable compared to getting half a season's worth of duals under his belt and multiple matches in Carver. Swiderski is definitely tough, but if they go at it again I think Real widens the gap. Too good, too athletic and fast, too savvy. If Swiderski was going to get him, I do think this would've been his best chance.
