What are the Positive Takeaways

Overall this season I'd have to say that the defense was less than what we've been accustomed to, but offense is looking up,.. Winnable bowl game against a #19 Mizzou team, que sera sera,.. Next year will be a tough schedule.

According to the announcers, Lester said he couldn't trust Wetjen because he would run the wrong route. More trust equals more PT, and he got some today. Hopefully, Wetjen can get on the same page as everybody else, because the Hawks sure could use him on offense.
I bet he could transfer to Purdue and learn the routes in a few weeks.

Only at Iowa do WR struggle to a position they’ve played for most of their lives.

Even Missouri was down to true freshman playing and they still got the ball thrown to them.

It’s always an excuse. So and so doesn’t know the playbook they’ve been studying since spring

There’s no possible way for them to have a handful of plays they can study during the week and run JUST those during the game.

No. You only see the field until you’ve memorized every route tree for every position for every play

Seriously this playbook excuse is beyond insulting. Freshman playing and contributing across the nation, but for some reason the team with little to no offensive punch has a playbook that takes years to master. Fvck that.

Almost as insulting as KF telling the fan base how ball protection is of utmost importance to him, then sending out Deacon Hill, by far the most turnover-prone QB in all of college football, week after week after week, telling us how good he is in practice and gives us the best chance to win.

That’s either him being a smug prick or having Alzheimer’s or both.

1. Tim Lester and overall offensive improvement in year 1.

2. We'll have a returning QB for the first time in awhile who should be healthy (Sullivan)

3. The only game we weren't competitive in all season heading into the 4th quarter was @ Ohio State.

4. I think finishing 8-5 this year was the result of the ball not bouncing our way more times than it did. I think this was more of a 9-4 quality team even though we finished 8-5.
  • Iowa State hits long fg to beat us. They start inside their own 10 with 38 seconds left 20 times in that situation, and they probably beat us 1 time so they hit on a 5% chance situation.
  • UCLA hits on a long fg.
  • Missouri hits on two long fgs, the roughing out of bounds was bs too.
My concern moving forward is our defense against average to above average QB play. Washington, USC, Oregon, UCLA are likely going to always have above average QB play. Iowa State seems to be solidifying themselves their too. We're going to be playing 2-3 games a year vs. better quarterbacks than what we used to face, and we're going to have to get more athletic in the secondary and more dominant in our pass rush.

We've seen guys get on the field for just a few plays per game. In fact, that's been the case for pretty much all of the receivers except for Gill and Vander Zee. Those two guys seem to have learned the playbook more quickly, and they didn't join the team until fall camp. Your last line in BS.

I remember watching freaking Uconn WRs get open all game Vs Utah State defense in 23 we struggled throwing against. They had more passing yards than Iowa had total yards against that same defense. It’s pathetic at this point and spare me the Uconn is getting better nonsense they finished 3-9 that year 121st ranked offense. Utah State defense was ranked 123rd.
