Iowa and Alabama are the only teams with multiple road wins over ranked (AP) opponents this season.

OFFENSIVELY

The Hawkeyes offense has been potent, averaging 32.9 points per game — the first time since 2008 Iowa has averaged over 30 points per game (it was 30.3 in ’08).

The Hawkeyes lead the Big Ten in plays of 40 yards or longer with 12. They only had 12 in 13 games last season and only had 13 such plays in the 2013 and 2012 COMBINED.

Iowa has five rushes of 40-plus yards, which is tied for No. 13 nationally. Last season, Iowa had one of these.

The Hawkeyes are No. 2 in the Big Ten with 214.4 rushing yards a game. Only one other Ferentz-era team has averaged more than 200 yards a game and that was 2002, when the Hawkeyes went 8-0 in the Big Ten.

Kirk Ferentz’s move to QB C.J. Beathard appears to have paid off. He has 9 TDs and 3 INTs.

“I think Beathard is the real deal,” said Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi, whose team suffered its only loss this season against Iowa. Narduzzi is the former longtime Michigan State DC and had seen plenty of Iowa offenses over the years. "He’s a pure QB. You don’t see many out there now. He can beat you with the ball. He can make all the throws. He has a quick release, is very accurate and puts it right where he wants it. Now they've got a guy who can win the game for them." Iowa's 9 interceptions this season are most in the Big Ten

Hawkeye opponents are averaging 2.5 yards per rushing attempt this season -- fifth best in the country.

Iowa is ranked 4th in the country in rushing yds allowed/game: 74.1

Iowa is 12th in the country in total yds allowed/game: 294.3

Iowa is ranked 10th in the country in pts allowed per game: 15.3

SPECIAL TEAMS

We are really, really good. The interiors on both sides of the line are really putting a hurt on people. Fun to watch.

Where does Iowa rank in extra points missed?
The way I look at it, we are plus 3 on our kicks this year..! As in +3 for the 57 yard winner in prime time vs. Pitt! Great job Marshall K.! keep bombomg em when it matters.

My question is, have we really faced a really strong offense? My guess is Pitt and Northwestern would be the best ones we've played yet.

I'm going to assume you meant defense cuz Northwestern is pitiful on offense...

Pitt's defense is for real.

I assumed NW had a pretty good running game.

But no, I really meant offense. Not to discredit our own defense in any way, but I don't think we've really played anyone with a real explosive offense. That being said, I have faith that our defense could stop such an offense when the time comes. But I do have my doubts as well...

Wisconsin and Pitt are above average, though obviously Wisconsin is not near where they've been.

Maryland is gonna be interesting simply because we won't know what we're getting. They're gonna go for broke from here on out and have a wide open spread attack. The personnel aren't gonna be any more dangerous than we've seen although Likely is a very good athlete.

Indiana is probably the best overall offense left that we'll face, followed by Nebraska. Sudfield, when healthy, is very tough, so Iowa is gonna need to be on their game, defensively. And I'm really hoping that Nebraska doesn't continue to build from their performance in Minnesota last week and suddenly become f***ing world beaters by the end of the year. I want a nice, humble, and dejected Nebraska team to face at the end of the year....because that's the way I like to see them. Not like the Minnesota teams that beat us over the last 5-6 years up in Minneapolis, where they made it a f***ing vendetta and had their sidelines explode after every single play like they won the national title (they really did that.....).

I don't want to see Nebraska get to that point after winning a bunch of games down the stretch, and I don't care if others, be it Nebraska, Iowa or whatever other team's fans, disagree.

Just sayin.

I updated the orig post; i think we can all agree that not having a full back playing running back has been a huge improvement for this year

Unrelated to our offensive and defensive numbers; I read the article about Pitt you linked, Narduzzi's comments about GT: "That option is huge pain in the ass,” Narduzzi said. “We blitz the (stuff) out of Ga. Tech. If you play base (defense) against those guys, they'll gash your ass.”

I seem to remember IA doing pretty well against the GT without blitzing all that much.

Not to discredit the Iowa defense by any means, but it helped that we had a month to game plan for them. Give Norm Parker a month to plan for a single dimensional attack, and you have a solid chance of doing well.

GT is a divisional opponent for Pitt, no excuses.

While he was being modest, I think I recall Parker (as quoted by Angerererer) saying that Parker's analysis was something like -- there's the FB dive, the QB keep, and the pitch man. You need to defend them; now let's go practice (or something else Parkeresque like that).

Good question. I will be very interested to see how Illannoy plays Wisky this week at home. I think Ill is a good team and I believe they have their no. 1 RB back. Ill is a solid team on both sides of the ball and I think Lunt can give Wisky some problems.

Also would love to see NW spank Nebbish. Don't think it will happen but I can hope.

How long did Pitt have to game plan for Iowa?
