Taking back the things you said about Kirk

I'm proud to say that I always supported Kirk. Last year was the only year where I admitted that things needed to change but I still never wanted him gone. I only favor a coaching change when things are very bad, like ISU bad.

Kirk's a big boy that makes $4 million a year, whether his team is any good or not.

I think he can take it. I'd like to get a refund for some of the crappy losses that I actually spent money to see (the entire 2012 season, 2011 Minnesota, last year's ISU and Nebraska games, etc.).

I am the same way. I have always been a defender of Kirk with the exception being after the Wisconsin, Nebraska and Tennessee games last year, I was ready for change. Change has happened.

I see that the Kool-Aid drinking circle jerkers are back in full force.

What a wonderful time to be alive.

Not only have I always supported Kirk, but I follow him into the men's room and offer him a fresh towel when he's done.

I'm hoping our speaking out and turning up the heat resulted in some of the small changes we are seeing. I never doubted his ability, I doubted whether he still had the desire to go the extra mile to be a top program in line with his pay.

It seems just about everything I said or thought about KF and needed changes...are those he identified after last season and corrected. I am glad Iowa is more competitive and and happy for KF...that he didn't go out that way...but is rejuvenated in his coaching and recruiting... Good for him...well done...coach of the year in my book, and well deserved!

I know a lot of us have done a 180 on things we said about Kirk the last couple seasons. #Firekirk
I don't know if anyone remembers the Tim Stops - Seasons of Punt song from last year, it was pretty funny, but he just did an apology song to Kirk.

https://m.soundcloud.com/timstop/seasons-of-punt

I don't feel the need to apologize for anything I said or posted. I was tired of many things related to Iowa football with good reason...and was extremely upset with how things unfolded last year. I was never of the opinion KF should have be fired last year, but I sure did believe things had to change and improve. I'm glad KF and the staff took a critical and honest look at what they were doing, how they were operating, and how they were expressing themselves and their feelings in the media and to the fan base.

I did too! People are all about "what have you done lately" and ignore past achievements. I think Kirk has more focus and his assistants are doing a great job.

Last year we could have had a 10 win year with a couple of breaks and CJ at QB.

I always liked Kirk. But I will admit that I wanted things to change and thought the only way was for a coaching change. Not the first or last time I was wrong about something.

Just enjoying the ride from here on out.

Whenever someone posts some idiotic crap I jsut hit ignore. Like tring to take credit for the success by being a negative Namcy. Goodbye.

I think to suggest the coaches, AD and University weren't aware and impacted by the negative tone from the fanbase is perhaps foolish. Being critical isn't being a negative nancy as you suggest. If fans were all roses, season ticket sales strong and there was no change in revenue, the sense of urgency for change and improvement probably isn't as strong. Sure, the coaches are self-motivated and want to achieve good results regardless of what fans say, but I absolutely think the AD and coaches heard the overwhelming opinion from fans that they were fed up with mediocrity and the indifferent impressions KF gave during press conferences following the late season collapse. The fans unhappiness was heard loud and clear, evidenced by comments the AD and coach have made themselves. Some people might have the urge to quit when faced with criticism, others embrace it to improve. I think its safe to assume KF and those closest to him embraced the criticism to improve.

I'm so thankful for all of you that called for him to be fired; we really owe this 12-0 season to you guys. You fellas are the real champs!

Also, NPD is a real bitch.

Slightly OT, but even when things are not going well, I think coaching changes should be a last resort. In college sports, you are already turning players over every 4 years (or less). If you turn your coach over just as often, what defines the team you are cheering for except the uniform? (then you have the teams that change those every game as well...)

I like the identity a stable coaching staff brings. As long we don't end up basement dwellers, I'm not likely to want a change.

I was a fan that wanted change. I wanted KF to atleast get 1 if not 2 more seasons before we canned him. Luckily KF wanted change too and he made it happen this year. Now everybody wins

Kirk deserved no criticism? Multiple fake punts, many in key situations? Onside kick to lose to a directional school at home (they obviously weren't in the correct alignment to recover it), calling a timeout coming out of a timeout? I could go on. That being said there have been changes and they've worked.

I refuse to take back anything negatve i said about him or greg davis -this season thus far does negate the last three-the debacle that actually happened

you do realize we played in the Cap One bowl just 2 years ago, correct?

See, if you rob banks for three solid years and then save up enough money so you can kick back and take a year off....

Saying "it's time to move on from KF" last year is a hell of a lot different than level of hatred spewed on this board. I know it's a message board, but every thread got derailed by people that just wanted to talk about how Kirk didn't care anymore or that he was never a good coach. Those are the people I think need to apologize (with a song or at least a poem)

Some of the changes people think they see also kill me..... Like we actually recover an onside kick and it's because of "new Kirk".

There were changes (like every year) and they knew people were upset. That doesn't excuse those among us that couldn't act like grownups when things were going bad.

I was just sick of him hiring all of his kin. I was wrong. Are there any more Ferentz we can hire?

Actually even with this year, the last 5 have been pretty dismal.... He has made some awful game management decisions, personnel decisions, and the team didnt look fired up at all for about 3 years. He lost a lot to NW, Minny, Central middle right left west michigan schools, indy etc. He has fixed everything this year, but I'm not going to "eat crow" and act like the last 5 years were great.....they weren't

I have been one of the strongest Kirk bashers out there. While I am thrilled with the changes that have gone on in the program this year and the successful win/loss record, my criticisms remain valid.

1. Kirk benched CJ Beathard all year last year. Kirk's choice. Terrible choice.
2. Kirk had Wadley, Daniels, and Canzeri at his disposal last year and played a fullback over them. Terrible choice.
3. Ultra conservative play calling. Taking a knee before halftime rather than scoring. "That's football." Being out coached. Those were all on Kirk last year. Anyone who DIDN"T question that is not a real hawk fan.

I've been to 3 times that many, just this year.

Not sure what we would do without a superfan like you.

Thanks. I heard the coach they had before Kirk was good. I would have loved to have seen some of coach Fox's teams.

Yep, and he also had the current starting LBs all on the team, with 2 of them on the bench and the other one playing part-time and out of position so that Bower and Alston could play 100% of the defensive snaps.

Personnel decisions cost us a 10 win season and a West title last year. "New Kirk" is actually smoke and mirrors that just means "play the best players on the roster."

Unlike the majority here, I am not so sure that KF has done that much differently than in the past. A favorable schedule coupled with some good breaks have put us where we are now.

Of course, I was not one calling for his head, but thought it might have been time for a change.

I hope that going forward the masses are not expecting similar seasons to this one, as they will probably be disappointed. We are probably going to be at a recruiting disadvantage to 4 to 6 programs in the conference.

I am just enjoying this season.

I guess what I am saying is the KF has always been a good coach and he still is.

There is a fine line between winning and losing...this year...we are on the other side...the good side...last year and others...well...that didn't work so well...very painful and frustrating to be almost there and piddle it down your leg by execution and coaching.

People on this board said that "KF was never a good coach?" Really...I don't recall seeing that...

That KF can repeat a very good year next year...will be a telling sign of a new age of Iowa football...repeating success proves that it is so "much luck" but coaching and recruiting. Some nice players returning...nice schedule...can't wait.

KF deserves some accolades this year...hope he gets them in the Big Ten and nationally...I will be cheering for it.

Let's first beat MSU...soundly...and move on...

All I know is that I have been laughing at all the people that gave up their season tickets because they were sick of a couple below average seasons. I bet it really had to burn seeing Iowa go 12-0 and not being there for it all.
