Here's a list of the JR's I think Iowa will get or has a pretty good shot at:
Spencer Lee: 50/50
Brady Berge: 90/10
Chase Shiltz: 70/30
Jacob Warner: 65/35

Here's my Soph list:
Gavin Teasdale: 50/50
Brody Teske: 65/35
Alex Thomsen: 55/45
Sammy Sasso: 50/50
David Carr: 70/30
Joe Kelly: 95/5 might be just books but his dad was a pretty good Hawk. ;)
Bryce Esmoil: 80/20 depends on how he develops but could fill in nicely at 195
Nelson Brands: 99/01 LOL

Question.
David Carr's dad is a cyclone wrestling legend. Iowa State lean?
Cael is another cyclone wrestling legend coaching a program that has won 5 of the past 6 team championships and during that period has the greatest number of individual champions. David's father is also a Pennsylvania wrestling legend. Penn State lean?
David wrestles in the state of Ohio and Ohio State has been very successful in attracting elite talent from within their recruiting footprint. Ohio State lean?

So to the question. You have David Carr as a 70/30 Iowa lean, why do you think that?

If you knew the OP you wouldn't need to ask.

I'm not quite seeing the math add up on that one either but.................

David Carr won in Kentucky as an 8th grader then apparently moved to Ohio (back to Ohio? - Dad is Coach at Massillon Perry now). So maybe Mark Hall is his inspiration..................(Kentucky then wherever.......).

Iowa probably has a better shot at Carr Jr. since Zalesky isn't at the helm anymore ;)...........and don't forget brother Nate Jr. wrestled at Iowa State as well. I'd take him at Iowa in a heartbeat, but not seeing it.

From what I heard he wants his brother to be on staff wherever he goes. Last I heard he was training up at Cornell. Not sure if he's coaching at all. Kids a stud

I take it you are old enough to remember Nate bumping up from 150 to wrestle Zelesky at 158?

I am indeed. It was one of my all-time favorite matches. Lot of hype beforehand (and rightfully so - both were great), and of course not much after.

Yeah, he definitely has the genetics and is certainly building an impressive resume'.
Whoever successfully recruits this kid they will be getting a ton of potential.

Sorry but I made a mistake on Carr. Meant to do 30/70 not 70/30. My bad....
This list is mainly just to get some thoughts of others. Actually have no idea of our chances at all these guys some yes but not all just trying to get a little discussion is all.
Spooner we really do have to meet sometime so we can discuss your problem with me. It's just for fun to get some discussion out there.

I see that Clingenpeel beat Coleman 6-3 this past weekend in Cedar at 170. Did anyone witness the match? Brief description?

In Spoons mind every top wrestler out there wants to go to Iowa even if they have to be a walk on, but the facts show that isn't so. Another new off season, another new list of top wrestlers that all want to be Hawks (in Spoons mind). You give percentages of odds that they will be Hawk but you don't have any inside information if they even like Iowa. If you want discussion about wrestlers leave off the odds they will go to Iowa and have the people that are in the know, let you know what is going on!

We need some more donations to the HWC so we can hire some parents and brothers of studs.

How about Max Lyon? Or, do we just let Missouri have him.

I'm sure Lyon would be a great addition to any room, but if we're gonna catch PSU we need top 10 talent like Berge and Warner.
Lyon was beating the #14 this weekend before getting tossed for 5.

Would not surprise me to see him in the top 20 intermat next year as that weight clears out immensely.

If returning to the top necessitates out recruiting Penn State and Ohio State than were in for a long draught. Realistically, we need close the gap on these schools in recruiting blue chippers and then kick ass on developing athletic kids that are a little on the raw side. IMO we simply cannot be letting wrestlers like Max Lyon head off to Missouri or South Dakota.

BTW, South Dakota just granted Iowans in-state tuition. I'm sure Chris Bono noticed.

I'm sure he will be, but Warner will be #1 at 82 in all rankings next year. If you believe the chatter and I do in this case he has interest in Iowa. Gotta go after that kind of talent.

Almost beating #14 in his weight class does not do a whole lot for me. He could be top 10 at his weight and not even be top 100 overall. We are not going to win a title again with a lineup of guys ranked outside the top 50 overall.

Nobody is arguing Lyon should be the centerpiece of our recruiting class.

When you have opportunity to get guys like Lee, Berge, and Warner (all #1s, Lee overall #1), you HAVE to go after them - especially when there is interest from those guys.

I agree on the blue chip part and to a certain degree on the second part as long as they are definitely athletic, plodders and grinders are not going to get it done and if the staff is not in tune to that they will struggle. Bottom line is winning titles in Iowa does not mean much anymore, just not as big of a deal as it used to be due to the very declined overall talent level. I don't know how athletic Lyon is, I'd love to have him but kids like him have to be brought in with very little investment to start, if teams like SDSU are going to offer substantial chunks of $$$ then we will have to let them go. Teams like SDSU have much smaller chances to land top blue chippers so that next level or two of kids is their top level. If we end up in bidding wars with SDSU for kids then we will have an SDSU level program.

Lot of guys don't know how to discuss and just talk wrestling for fun/entertainment. Cripes sake we are all just giving an opinion that is worth almost nothing for an end conclusion. Then we have to deal with pure turds that know and contribute nothing on top of it. Spooner gives a lot of good input on the forums just have to work around his lack of etiquette at times. I can live with that, it's just his way of doing things.

Absolutely, Just hated to see Hall go to puke state.

His name being Gable is about the only interest in Iowa he has last I had heard.

I might add that I love Iowa's chances at landing Berge and Warner. Lee is anybody's guess. One thing is for sure is its a 2 team race for his services. He may show interest in a few other schools but it's a 2 team race.

You sure about the "2 team race" for Lee?
His last interview, he talked about training with tOSU.
I think with Lee, it comes down to the quality of the program's ORTC.
tOSU has a pretty good one and so do we...

While I REALLY like Lyon I would rather have Warner and or Berge. As many have all ready said Lyon while a very good wrestler we can't to continue to just develop wrestlers have to have more blue chippers. Lyon would/should be considered for sure just like/want Berge and Warner better.

Sandor45,
Yes I am 99.9999 percent sure it's a 2 team race. Like I said he may show interest in other teams but when push comes to shove it's down to 2 teams.
