Targeting Bull Crap

Air Force vs. Cal in Armed Forces Bowl in Ft. Worth. Just ejected the AF d back for a targeting call on a defenseless receiver. Similar to the call against Gerry in the Chicken Shit Bowl.

Yup saw that one live too. I think it was a "high" hit, but he did not light the kid up. He wrapped his arms around him and was trying to tackle the WR (the ball was incomplete anyways).

I think they need to really revise or look at this rule in depth. They are punishing these kids for high form tackle hits. I realize some of these players need to lower their "target" but still they can't control the WR's movements and if they jump in the air or come to the ground, they can't control that. Also if these guys starting coming in low, then players were "leap" over them or they will take out knees and injure the players seriously.

If these refs are calling those two targeting, I gotta believe that either Miles or Lomax will be ejected in the Rose Bowl. I just watched some highlights from the Purdue game and that hit LOMAX put on that QB was textbook targeting. I have to believe someone in the officiating ranks complained about targeting and now you are seeing them call the "ticky tack" ones.

Just had a play in that bowl gam where the RB was held up by a defender and a safety came in and "smoked" the RB in the head. That was a clear cut target by the safety and no call. Air Force fans were upset, as I would be.

Can't do a postmortem on a season incomplete.

However...

Words cannot accurately describe how important winning the Rose is on so many levels for this program. So much vindication to be had here for the program, for the coaches/Ferentz, for the fans of the school, for the players. For Hawkeye Nation, however anybody cares to define it.

An incredible opportunity for the program, folks. Damn, it sure's hell would feel good. And quite frankly, I think they're going to do it, too. Play as well as they did against MSU and they will win.

It'd be the peak season of my lifetime (b. 1962). No question about it.

I thought it was targeting on Lomax in the Purdue game as well. Knocked their QB out of the game at the time. ( backup played better though )

I saw the hit and thought it was worse than Gerry's. The crown of the helmet hit the WR and what made it worse was the fact that the ball was long gone by the time he hit him. The player could see the ball was incomplete and still hit him. This was not a play made in the moment but a decision made to hit a player after the ball had passed by.

One of if not the worst call in college football this year! I hope Nebby gets their ass kicked every time out, but that was ridiculous! You cant tackle any better than that hit. Wrapped up and finished the tackle. Replay official should be embarrassed. If this had happened to a Hawk we would be crying bloody murder. Might as well start wearing those stupid ass bubbles to play football...The pussification continues.....

Louisville player ejected, took out a wr and his own player. Trevon Young taken off on stretcher.

Side note is according to reports Young has a serious hip injury - broken. Too bad for him as he had a nice season with 8.5 sacks and was honorable mention all ACC.

Crazy thing is they call these targeting, but then miss calls like in osu vs ole miss game. with 11:13 left in the first quarter the D back comes up and hit the guy on the back of the head with the crown of his head while he was basically sitting on the turf. He was totally defenseless
