Fortunately their Kenpom numbers are in line with Northwestern’s.
They have no one, and I mean no one, that can guard either Murray. Purdue was just huge inside and made it harder for Keegan to score at the rim. As others have said, GIlyard is good. Burton, the forward, is also a good player, can make 3's as well.
As a team, they have made 284 3's on the year. Gilyard has 90 of them, Burton another 55. So more than 50% of their made 3's from 2 guys. As a comparison, Iowa has made 325 3's on the year and shot a better % from 3.
What Richmond does well:
Don't foul on defense (they are 28th best in the country and not putting teams at the line). By comparison, Iowa is 71st.
Don't turn it over (9th best in the country in turnover %). Iowa is also stingy, with 3rd best turnover rate in the country.
They are kind of meh at everything else.
What they are poor at:
Offensive rebounding. They grab only 22% of their misses, 325th in the country.
Block%. They block only 6.1% of shots, 313th in the country.
They are 104th in the country in defensive efficiency, so should be much easier to score against than Indiana or Rutgers. But anything can happen in 1 game.
Richmond lost to Drake, Maryland, Utah State and Mississippi State in non conference. Iowa could not have asked for a better draw than playing in a 4-team quad of Richmond, Providence and South Dakota State. I would not be surprised in South Dakota State won the other game. Anything can happen, of course, but Iowa put itself in great shape to get out of the first weekend. Got Providence as the 4 seed (Pomeroy ranking of 49) instead of 4 seed UCLA (#8 in Pomeroy rankings).
