Terrible officiating makes these games practically unwatchable...

Bo Boroski is the worst official in college basketball bar none. It is baffling they they continue to regularly put him on many of the biggest games in the conference. The officiating down the stretch yesterday was a sham and we got robbed of an entertaining finish to a good college basketball game

Of course. Bohannon doesn’t chuck that unless he feels egregious contact. Can you imagine how pissed we would have been if there was a no call and that was the shot he took? He has the guy chasing and grabbing him with no choice but to run through him in a way. Trice did a good job of making it look borderline, but borderline it was not.

That’s my thought, too. JBo isn’t launching up a crappy shot like that unless he just got pushed and is trying to turn it into a shooting foul.

A sham both ways though, correct?

Agreed,.. I didn't see a foul watching it live but after looking at replays it was there,.. A lot of what Wisconsin coaches on defense happens from the waist down.

I think what drew the foul was that his arm was extended as Bohannon went up to shoot. The actual foul happened as bohannon went around the screen but before the whistle blew - they were grabbing him on every screen all game. It should have been a common foul, not a shooting foul.

I'd agree with that,.. while also saying that Trice should have actually fouled out a couple minutes prior to this when he got Bohannon at the hoop and Davison somehow inexplicably gets called for that foul..

Bo Boroski should never be allowed to do an Iowa game ever.

For the record, I blame Iowa for how this game has gone so far. As many veterans as they have on this team, they are not very mentally tough.

Still, the officiating is garbage.

Bigly agree. My wife and I were watching the last 10 minutes or so of the IA/WI yesterday and it was quite annoying for all of the stoppages to review the tape, etc. Those reviews need to be a last resort and then done quickly, if at all, otherwise the whole flow of the game is altered and the product is just unwatchable IMO.

Plus that ref crew is bad.

Officiating seems to be getting worse each year (especially vs Iowa) as more opinion calls or relying on monitors are stressed.

Years ago...no monitors...when in doubt....line up on that circle around free throw line and jump it! (yea that's what the circle was for). Ironically, the did away with that lining up and jumping supposedly because it took too much time....as I remember, refs would tell you get lined up and then jump it probably within a minute or so and it was done. Stopping and going to monitor takes ten times more than that.

Problem is, officials can't even get the jump ball right. Watch how many times it is NOT thrown straight up, or how many times a player is allowed to jump early. I'd rather have them look at the monitor and get it right, but do it quicker.

Fans of all B1G teams have been bitching about the quality of refereeing in the league for decades. The B1G makes a lot of money. How about getting out ahead of this issue and hiring a squad of professional refs that are actually responsible for getting calls correct and subject to firing (or bonuses) for their work.

Except the "no replay".... Means that it's a common foul on Murray and no call for the hook on Davison.

The "Wisconsin style of basketball" is a big reason for the numerous reviews and frustrating flow of the game.

Same officials in a game against almost any other team in the B1G wouldn't have been so unwatchable...

#1 thing Wisconsin does is "muck up" the game
but they did call the hook and hold right ?

My own solution (opinions all my own):

Allow the refs to quickly T up coaches that want to spend the whole game bitching at the refs. Refs don't want to issue T's to any coaches, as they are worried they will get rated poorly and not get picked for games. Stop the childish ranting that goes on all game long with every call.
Back the refs on keeping a tighter whistle the whole season. Every season starts out with calling all the stuff away from the ball, or putting hands on a dribbler, or mauling in the post. As the season goes on, it turns into rugby.
Hiring FT refs may work. It wouldn't necessarily make it easier to get rid of them. If they become full-time employees, then they are likely to get a union and it becomes way harder to fire refs. As opposed to today, where the refs are contractors and the conference can choose at any time to stop using guys.
Teach the refs the difference between bailing out offensive players by calling blocks when the offensive player is just plowing into people, but not calling a charge just because the defender "isn't set." The NBA is far better at this. Their refs don't bail out a dribbler who is just ramming into people.
It all comes down to telling the refs the league uses how they want the game called, and then backing the refs when inevitably the coaches start screaming that they won't let them play. At some point, the coaches and teams will adjust. The way it is now, teams are going to hold and clutch from the get go, they know fouls are not going to be called all game. That has to change.

throwing the jump ball straight up while trying not to get clocked by the players that are jumping is one of the hardest things to do , it is also the least important thing to do well . they need to flip a coin and then go with alternating possession .

for someone so bad he gave us quite a bit of love in the first half . he called both charges , patrick fouled davidson on a layup , let it go . called a travel on trice that was nothing more than a very high dribble that looked weird , the dribble never ended that is why it was not a travel . called the cylinder rule on trice in the 2nd half against jbo , could have went either way . called the foul on trice that gave jbo 3 freethrows .

No, he wasn't. He had the back of his hand on JBo as he was going into the screen, then kind of had his hand on JBo's hip as he was going into his shot. There was no grab. And full speed it looked WAY less like a foul than slowed down.

maybe he pushed him , maybe he didnt . only Bo knows for sure . wait a minute , BO hates iowa , he wont make that call ....... but he did .

I've said numerous times that Bo is just a bad ref, not that he hates Iowa. I seem to remember a short discussion with someone (maybe torbee or lucas) that many Iowa fans can't seem to acknowledge when a bad call goes in favor of Iowa, they seem to ignore those.

Honestly even outside of this specific crew, all the reviews just destroy basketball games anymore. There is no flow, it’s just horrendous....right or wrong make a call and stick with it and get back down the floor.

it’s even worse than college football because at least football is more of a start-stop game with a natural break every play.

Get rid of replay in CBB!!
I agree one hundred percent reviews are getting out of control. But it all goes back to calling clean games and not allowing non stop contact. The more brutal it gets, the more severe contact there's going to be to sift through.

Yeah however I also see the flip side no one likes the refs becoming the show...let em play. If your offensive philosophy relies on 100% clean called games it’s not a great philosophy....at some point you gotta pick yourself up and then put the other guy on his rear at the opposite end of the floor....traditionally Frans teams struggle with that part. There were a few guys like McCabe that had what it takes. JBO also impressed me vs Wisky.

Honestly, on that cylinder rule violation, I thought they should have called Trice for flopping. You could clearly see him rock his head back like bohannon got him with an elbow, but replay clearly showed no contact, and yes, it could only happen because Trice was up in bohannon’s jock strap on that one.

By rule, it's a maybe. By actual enforcement in CBB, it's never called. JBo just sold it with his James Harden flop.
And what Wisconsin players don't do that? I guess whats good for the goose then. I really don't want to hear anything EVER from Wisconsin or MSU people for that matter about fouls that weren't called in their games. Nuff said.......
