The best way to open up the MSU defense is to make the LB's be involved all over the field. If you try to power run all day on MSU they will stuff you and they will keep 7 in the box. This is why I hope we see less of Daniels in this game and more of Canzeri and Wadley. If we can utilize our great TE's and force the LB's to cover all over the field we will be able to run on them. If we can run on them we can play the clock game with them. I hope we see a lot of two TE sets early in this game. If we try to go down field to our WR's I think they will get to CJ with their pass rush that includes the LB's. I think Iowa needs to hit the TE's early in this game and often.

TE's have been heavily involved all year for the most part. Doesn't Kittle have like 6 TDs?

They are always involved. Kittle plays more in the red zone. However after a game the TE's typically only have 3-5 catches. They are used much more in the run game. I'm saying Iowa needs to come out and pass to the TE's right away and force the MSU D to open up and get the LB's off the line of scrimmage. Then start running the ball with Canzeri and Wadley while also maintianing a passing attack. If we try to run right away we could put ourselves in a hole right out of the gate with some long 3rd downs.

The TE's might not get the volume you are seeking, but don't you think that might have something to do with how opposing defenses prep and scheme for Iowa's offense? I'm certainly not a college coach, but if I were playing Iowa, taking away the TE in the passing game would be high on my priority list beyond stopping the run, especially on 3rd down. CJB has been given a lot of freedom at the line of scrimmage to check into plays, pass or run, depending on what the defense is showing, so despite our desire to do one specific thing, predetermined or scripted plays may not be our best option. I suspect CJB will get us into a play that works best based on the gameplan and scouting done by the staff. But what do I know, it sounds like you've got the game plan figured out, hope you shared it with GD and KF :)

Agreed, using TE's often makes it easy to run the same packages, and at the same time keep the defense completely oblivious to what's going on. The Patriots have been doing it for sometime now.

Are the TE's pass blocking, run blocking? Are they both going to run a route? Are they going to block, then release onto a route? Is only one going to run a route, is one of them simply a decoy to open up the hot route? Setting up a screen pass? Who the #$# knows, eh?

I'm not seeking a specific volume all season. Every game calls for a slightly different game plan. MSU has a very strong front 7. THey just might be the best we have seen this year, even better then Wisconsins. If we want to open up our run game we need to run all kinds of different options with our TE's. Make the LB's question them every play. Best way to do that is throw to them right from the start and make them a focal point.
