Yeah, but it feels like they were successful because the U.S. finally got tough with China. And at the end of the day, that’s all that really matters.
When Biden has taken action on tariffs, he's maintained Trump's strategy. Tariffs on solar panels and their component parts that were set to expire this year were extended by an executive order Biden issued in February. That's despite the fact that Biden's solar panel tariffs will make it more difficult for the country to meet Biden's climate goals.
Biden is an idiot for continuing them, but tariffs are the one thing that ensures China wins yet make the "economically illiterate" in the US feel like we did something.
Tariffs that level the playing field when a government subsidizes and industry are appropriate. Punitive tariffs that go beyond leveling the playing field are harmful. Trump's tariffs fall into the latter category. Biden, by continuing them is no better than Trump.
