I feel like I know what we have at the skill positions on offense, and the DL and secondary on defense.

I have a good feeling that we’ll have a productive LB corps, even though we may take lumps early on.

It’s going to come down to how much improvement we can make on the OL. If we can get back to 4.3+ ypc consistent in big games then 10-2 is realistic. But the guys in that OL room need to be all in. We need big developmental years out of a lot of guys.

We’re behind Wisconsin, and there’s a load of work to be done. And this is the year Iowa can break the CFP rock.

Most likely another 8-4 year to 7-5 year do to recruiting misses at lb snd wr and oline underperforming again

Our surpise year may come in 2019 when stanley is more improved. And the oline coach will have more experience coaching the oline
Great hire but he is new to coaching the oline.

As long as KF is still here, there is always going to be a razor thin line for us between 7-5 type seasons and 10-2 type seasons. It is just our style.

Guys, it was a razor thin edge when Hayden was coach and just about every coach in Iowa history except for Howard Jones in the 1920's and Evy in the 1950's. It just isn't going to change unless they move the state of Iowa to the South. It isn't.

a 10-2 iowa team will NEVER be considered for the cfp.....

and personally I'm still far from sold on WR

I agree our OL has to improve, but our scheme has to change. In games where BF was throwing on first down, it had teams all over the place. He settled way too much on the run and not enough in the passing game. I realize we were short handed at WR, but then become creative. I know with experience he will get better, but BF playcalling did cost Iowa a couple of games this year. He didn't utlize Wadley enough on offense.

One thing I would like to see go away is the zone blocking scheme. It doesn't work anymore and a lot of defenses are fast/strong enough to combat it. The straight ahead blocking they used in the Nebbie and 2nd half of the BC game worked wonders.

I think Iowa's defense will be serviceable, it will be able to hold teams to 14-20pts or less I believe. The whole thing is if the offense can get going. If the offense can be serviceable next year, I think Iowa could/should go no worse than 8-4 w/possible 10-2. If our offense is inept like it was this year, then I could see Iowa struggling to another 7-5 type of season.

When Evy coached it was an era of single platoon. Meaning guys played both ways and didn't need as many high star players.

You are correct and I agree. But he was amazingly successful and he got 'er done.

I agree on the razor thin edge! We can talk offensive and defensive schemes, we can talk about the o-line the d-line and anything else but at the end of the day it comes down to having the ball bounce the right direction and having a little luck! If you look at some of there best seasons they were really only a few plays (where they got the bounce or luck) from finishing with about 3 more losses than they did. On the flip side I've seen seasons where they where only a few plays (where they didn't get the bounce or luck) from being great season! in 2009 they finished 11-2..... one play from finishing..... 12-1 or 4 plays from finishing 7-6. That's where the razors edge can hurt you! Obviously blowing teams out fixes that problem ....but that hard to do!
