Only funding for highways. Not all federal funding.
The threat only decreased funding by 5 percent as well.
The feds threatened to lower highway money by 10% if the state didn't raise the drinking age, not withholding all funds.
Precedents are usually expanded upon over time.

I for one am delighted that the American left is taking up this cause. Issues such as this were impactful to the 2024 election and they will continue to be impactful in future elections. It's the equivalent to spotting an opposing team a couple of touchdowns prior to the start of the game.
They are incapable of learning and have doubled down on every 80-20 issue they're losing on. It's glorious.
The issue is using the executive order. Create a law, up to this point an executive order is weak, especially when considering stepping over state rights.
The issue is the shotgun approach by Trump. You have to call everything out, not let some things go by, because then it just becomes precedent and builds upon itself.
But don't worry, Trump is doing a fine job ruining the economy. Truly something to look forward to.
Gender dysphoria is, yes. And I personally believe that still exists, although I will defer to the experts on that.
However, as science has improved with understanding the human brain, they have discovered structural differences between male and female brains. We know anomalies happen in nature, so it does happen where someone has a brain structure like a female’s despite being born with a penis and vice versa.
Unfortunately, because the issue is so politicized, a lot of mental illness is getting ignored along with environmental factors to advance political agendas.

That's a long ways away from a President vaguely threatening the halting of funds he doesn't even have authority over because his feelings were hurt.

Most Americans only hear Trump saying arguing that Maine shouldn't allow transgenders to compete in female sports. They don't understand that Trump is threatening more.
That is not how it will play out amongst the voters in other states.
You cannot win the right in modern American politics if you cannot win the optics.
