The handout to farmers we expected...

Supposedly, the payments will be made when the WH determines farmers have been adversely affected by tariff policy.

If I buy those six chickens to produce my own eggs, does that mean I'm a farmer?
Or do I need to own a $75k truck and vacation in AZ for the winter months to be considered a farmer?

Ask your County Ag Agent.

I know you’re not serious, but I think you need to make $5000/year in gross receipts from farming operations to qualify as a farmer in the eyes of the IRS.

You're not short on jealousy, that's for sure.

One more qualification to be a farmer...You need to buy a couple Polaris ATVs, say you purchased them to spray fence lines so you can "write them off" as farm equipment, then take them to Havasu to ride the sand dunes every winter.

Or not. My dad is a farmer and owns zero of the things mentioned in your 2 posts.

Most farmers have gone through very difficult times and do not represent who OP is describing regarding trucks and vacations.
I recently asked my dad about his thoughts on me taking over the farm. He pretty much said I would be crazy to jump in at this time.
Crop inputs are high and price per bushel sales are low. The engineering of seed corn providers has allowed crop yields to increase enough to stay afloat.
The big guys are doing fine, just like in every business.

If you asked one, I bet most farmers will admit they're the largest recipient of govt $$$..

Off the record, of course.
I bet the ROI of those govt $$$ to farmers, and the trickle down into the various ag industries, trumps almost all other forms of welfare in this country too.

Barriers to entry make it very difficult for somebody to start out. Once you have an asset base built it’s also very hard to fail at it.

Secretary of Ag, Rollins, is scheduled to arrive in this State to announce what everyone expected
The "Market Disruption Payment" will be this administration's gift to our welfare queens...the American farmer.

Shocked.
Shocked, I tell you.
