I farmed 1200 acres, grew up in agriculture, had a fair sized liquid fertilizer manufacturing entity, sold agrochemicals, custom applications, crop insurance, soil testing etc and then I got into ag banking too.
Most of his observations are from the past and outdated information, but one thing is pretty constant these days. Farmers tend to overvalue their importance in society and like most rural people, tend to be small minded and opinionated about things they have little knowledge of.
Speaking of “liberal whiners” I ran into a lot of these when it came to getting fed payouts for continuous CRP so they could hunt pheasants, obtaining free PPP loans or difficulty paying bills/loans on time etc because they spent $12k on a UTV and another $57k on a truck. Or entitlements for any yield/revenue loss due to wind/rain/hail or drought.
