The handout to farmers we expected...

Read the details of that agreement.
Those tariffs only kick in AFTER the Trump negotiated deal exceeds certain levels of dairy imports.

Never have Canadian tariifs been enacted because those imports haven't exceeded the agreement.

You really are out of your league on this one.

How are you an expert on this? Are you a diplomat?

Research can be your friend.

I suppose someone like yourself could "google" it for the details.

I'm not making this shit up. It's the details of the agreement. You know...the one Trump negotiated!

And now he's changing the agreement. Thinks he can get a better deal. Nothing lasts forever.

So, let's say another employer offered you a higher salary and bigger performance bonus. So you accepted that offer, quit your current job, met your goals and the new employer refuses to pay you that performance bonus...

You ok with that???

Cause that's what the USMCTA is.

That happens every day in America.

Give a farmer money, the country gets a harvest next year.

Give a homeless guy money, the country still has a homeless guy next year.
Give a Trump voting farmer money and he will continue to run an inefficient business. Let the market choose winners and losers. You just like them because they vote the same way you do.

I hope every Trump voting farmer goes bankrupt. I truly do. They consistently vote against any support for anyone else. They consistently are the “pick yourself up by your bootstraps” crowd. They voted for tariffs that would directly impact them. Now they will get bailed out while the rest of us pay the price. Grab those bootstraps and pull Trump farmers.

Let me play the MAGA greatest hits: why should my tax dollars go to save their sorry dumbasses? All while I have to pay 25% more for tons of products because a madman I didn’t vote for won the election. Nope, f*ckhead Trump voting farmers. I would have more heart if they were not hypocritical f*ckheads.

You managed to make a number of errors in such a short post

  1. He isn’t changing an agreement. He simply tore it up. A treaty he himself negotiated that specifies tariffs we never had to pay because we did not hit the threshold.
  2. He cannot get a better deal this way. Foreign trade is not transactional in the way he operates. This isn’t a one-off real estate purchase. These are allies (or at least they used to be). Foreign trade is not a zero sum game of I win/you lose. It’s about establishing win-win relationships and free trade is the ultimate win-win model. Practically everyone in business knows this.
  3. You said Trump is thinking. He is not thinking. He is acting on instinct and the apologists make up some convoluted bullshit to excuse his total lack of reason.
  4. Nothing lasts forever … except death and taxes. Tariffs are a tax on the American consumer. So congrats for using that slogan on one of the two things for which it does not apply.

You seem to have left out Reagan and Bush I and II for some reason...JFC.
Rural/farm vote was never " overwhelming " for the above. Carter lost every county in Iowa with the exception of 4 in 1980. 95 - 4, now that's overwhelming...JFC
You're insinuating the GOP never had support from rural America before Carter?

Most of the " farm welfare " the left likes to bring up started in the 30's under FDR and continues to this day. Clinton always warned against government programs as you can never claw back what you gave away...
What we're criticizing is the reason for these handouts...

The trade embargo during Trump1 that paid farmers then and the expected subsidies coming for the tariff fiasco of Trump2.

You see the difference?

Secretary of Ag, Rollins, is scheduled to arrive in this State to announce what everyone expected
The "Market Disruption Payment" will be this administration's gift to our welfare queens...the American farmer.

Shocked.
Shocked, I tell you.

Have no fear, the Department of Agriculture will continue to send you your food stamps this month.

Personally I’m criticizing the farmers that voted for tariffs that cost them business only to turn around and gladly accept handouts.

The same dumbasses who criticize those that need government support.

I abhor their hypocrisy. Scumbags.

I’m a farmer. I’ll take it.

What @MitchLL is describing is incredibly accurate.

For about 1 out of every 20 farming operations. He knows it all on this off topic board and the wrestling board too. He’s the biggest liberal whiner on the board and he refuses to have an actual conversation with anyone that believes different. A lot like most women I know actually. Lmao.

Maybe he is a woman? That would make sense actually.

...and the Russian Grain Embargo was a the biggest piece of the the farm crisis. Carter's policies led to commodity prices to fall 40%. You see the similarities? If not you're just a dense blue MAGA...

12-15% interest rates, inflated oil prices led to the farm crisis of the 80s.

My BIL lost his farm.

Specifically point out anything I said that's incorrect.
I enjoy actual conversations.

I farmed 1200 acres, grew up in agriculture, had a fair sized liquid fertilizer manufacturing entity, sold agrochemicals, custom applications, crop insurance, soil testing etc and then I got into ag banking too.

Most of his observations are from the past and outdated information, but one thing is pretty constant these days. Farmers tend to overvalue their importance in society and like most rural people, are often small minded, yet opinionated about things they have little knowledge of. The quoted post above illustrates that with the dim witted "liberal" insult.

Speaking of “liberal whiners” I ran into a lot of these when it came to getting fed payouts for continuous CRP so they could hunt pheasants, obtaining free PPP loans or difficulty paying bills/loans on time etc. because they spent $12k on a UTV and another $57k on a truck, or just didn't market their crops very well. Entitlements for any yield/revenue loss due to wind/rain/hail or drought is another safety net these producers have, that the majority of Americans don't, but let's scream about liberals and self-sufficiency while your kids head to the FSA office, so they can get cheap loans to start farming, while grandpa/grandma let them farm the ground for free, while not paying for equipment.

Farm subsidies existing to maintain prices to ensure stable food supply. Boy genius Donny doesn't understand basic markets or economics and does as he wishes while the American tax payers pick up the check and bail out the victims of moronic trade policies. Lost trade agreements take years to get back, so years of unnecessary bail outs.

Just admit it's bad policy that caused this.

You know it's a cult when 'libertarian' Trad is defending socialized agriculture - literally direct payments from the government to farmers - with the kicker being that the payments are needed because of anti-free trade measures and fallout from a trade war.

Add in James V still living in his concrete pouring days - back when the Republicans were the free markets, free people party and weren't keen on handouts - wake up James, your party is a cult that doesn't have any principles.

People don't understand most of a farmers budget is unseen. Pickups are almost always universally foolish and utv's being enclosed really don’t make either practical for grain farmers. Lots of livestock guys still use both, but play with both often too. The guys no longer looking to grow are the ones with elaborate vacations or purchases to mitigate income. People don't appreciate things like a grain cart often are more expensive than the nicest in town house in most rural areas.

Gravity wagons are cheap in comparison and can be useful, especially if farming near your storage. I get why grain carts/semis have become the norm though, but like anything, it's a cost of doing business like any other operation. As for grain carts, you can get a nice, used one for $45-65k. I don't think nice, "in-town" houses in much of Iowa are going for less than $150k anymore..
