The need for a bowl win

The word on the street is it will either be the Music
City Bowl in Nashville, the Pin Stripe Bowl in Yankee
Stadium or the Foster Farm Bowl in California. We
will know on Sunday, December 3.

Which Iowa team shows up at the bowl? I hope it is the team that played Nebraska and OSU.

More importantly, I hope the team that shows up to play Iowa quits like OSU and Nebraska did. We saw what happened when teams play with fire against the Hawks when they lined up against UW and Purdue. Iowa needs a match up with a team that doesn't have much fight left. Music City worries me because an SEC opponent might destroy them. I'll take the Pinstripe or Foster Farms, middling ACC or PAC-12 teams. I don't want to see the Hawks rolled by a team like Mississippi State.

I think most fans would have been okay with an 8-4 record, the Purdue lose has taken a lot of energy out of the program. The only way we really gain moment is to get a bowl win. I seriously don't care who and where we play the most important thing to the program is to end this post season streak.

The best they can hope for is 8-5
they still finished with a losing conference record
How many are "happy" with that?
Answer: too many

There's a difference between being happy with 8-5 period and being happy with 8-5 given one of the toughest schedules in the nation, a new OC, and a young, rebuilding offense.

If we go 8-5 next year with who we have returning and an easier schedule will I be happy? No.

But it's all moot if Iowa can't win a bowl game against what will likely be an opponent similar in quality to us. If we lose the bowl game, most fans will be unhappy with the year.

I am not! We have been SOLD its ok no! Josey and Other players i.e. Mr.Akrum hate 8 and 5. Regent types happy.Endzone new SEATS selling well per podcast at 2grand each. Fans require More hope daily.Hope huh, then Pray for Surf I Hope Thanks.Hawk players mighty tough.Very very proud of this team

Foster Farms gets the 4th place P12 team. Not exactly middling. Besides UA/ASU, seen recent projections of that possibly being Wash/WSU loser or maybe even Stanford should they lose to ND

Much like the OSU and UNL games I’d like to get a NAME opponent that doesn’t come ready to play. How do we order up that?

Depends on what other conferences do. The Big Ten can possibly sneak into CFP. They can also possibly get 3 into new year six bowls.

I’m gonna say Music City because Barta has been campaigning for it. Said Pinstripe guy is trying to make it cost effective for fans by staying in New Jersey.

My hunch is Music City vs Kentucky

I think Music City, but I would prefer Mississippi State. More eyeballs on that game and a better program this decade.

Sometimes you make some pretty decent points on here.........but this is just you looking for an angle to spew some negative. How about go find a stuffed dog and kick it it instead.

That would be nice, but I'm a heck of a lot more worried about OUR team showing up to play for a change. I'd say 4 of our 5 opponents during this miserable bowl streak (Okla, LSU, Tenn, Fla) showed very little interest in playing the game, yet didn't have much trouble dismantling us.

I hope you are correct. I reserved rooms in Nashville. Prices have went up quite a little the last week.

Good news....Kirk beat Nebby so he gets his bonus. If we go on to win a bowl game Brian's grand kid is locked in as head coach.

Worse than it could have been but better than it might have been. The duds against NW and Purdue bug me the most.

We need a bowl win worse than eyeballs right now. I dont care if we played the worst fbs team in america. We just need a win. Period. Put us in peoria for a bowl. Doesnt matter

That's a pretty weak street you hang out on.

Dear lord, I didn't realize that. Why in the hell would they match up an 8th place B10 team (overall) with a 4th place PAC12 team? And on the West Coast? That's not good. The last thing I'd want is to watch Iowa play what would basically be a home game against Stanford. I definitely don't want Iowa to play any team from Washington in a bowl. Too many painful memories of Rose Bowls gone wrong. I guess I should just hope for the Pinstripe. Or for some sort of miracle against a higher-ranking SEC or P12 team.

I'd love a bowl win, but pounding osu and nebby makes this a successful season for me.

lol. Fair enough. Yeah, my POV on bowl games is skewed by all the recent losses. I just want them to finally win a bowl game and I have to admit I feel squeamish just thinking about it. Hopefully they take care of business no matter where they go, but ... yeah, I'll just have to wait and see what happens. I just want the losing streak to end even if it's against Central Michigan or whoever. But maybe they'll come out and play harder if they have what everyone is calling a "name" team.

Iowa maybe safe for a bowl win as they shouldn’t be playing too far up this year after going 7-5. Has the KF extension and raise been offered yet? Asking for a friend.

lol. I almost posted the same thing yesterday but thought better of it. Glad you made the joke, though. The plan now is to develop the technology to the point that they can put Ferentz's brain in a jar and hook up electrodes to it so he can coach for eternity. ;)
