*****The official 2024 Presidential election day and results thread*****

Whelp. We deserve what we are going to get. I had said before, him winning would not have me as upset as in 2016 because at this point it is just a sign our country has something very very broken in it and we will just have to see where it takes us.

The true villains here are Joe and Jill Biden. He should have announced he was not running for a second term in summer of 2023 so Democrats would have had a primary and nominated someone else. Trump would have been easy to beat. She did as good as she could but did have that charisma you need, and sadly, electing a black woman was just too uphill a battle to overcome. She made big mistake not picking Shapiro too.

Funny thing is, similar to 2016, I think other candidates would curb stomp either one. They were like the only candidates either could beat.

That's part of it. The main reason is that African Americans and Latinos are approximately as conservative/liberal as whites on ideology. But they have traditionally voted identity over ideology for Democrats. Because they rightly saw that they had an actual place at the table and voice with Democrats and Republicans treated them like crap.

It's not 100% clear why, but that is peeling away and they are voting now more in line with ideology. There are a lot more gains to be made by republicans too if it happens.

And it's not just race, you can say the exact same thing for union members. Who ever believed that most longshoremen and teamsters were motivated by progressive politics? They weren't, they voted Democrat because Democrats were for unions. But now union members are voting their ideology.

Quite a realignment going on.

It's the populism, grievance based politics. Minorities have plenty of reasons to have grievances, to feel like things aren't fair, to want to stick it to the elite. They have those same feelings just like the working class whites, poor rural whites, what most people think of as MAGAs. Trump's strongman, warrior/protector, authoritarian shtick also plays well with males.

What a stupid post. Joe's not the villain. Hillary wasn't. And neither is Harris. Trump is the villain. Grow up.

Anyway, America is pretty retarded. Like really retarded. We're at risk to continually elect dangerous morons. Trump is just the start.

Most of our populous is politically stupid, and then plenty of the ones smart enough to know better are compromised by partisan politics.

It'll be OK... Until it isn't. And then idiots will wonder... Where'd that come from?

Now we're left to hope Trump's handlers can contain the authoritarian impulses of a intellectually malformed individual.

Make no mistake... Voting for Trump is a gamble. Republican stuff at the risk injury to our democratic institutions and normalization of behavior that will continue to erode them.

This seems pretty fair. Unfortunately, there's still the rot in the GOP that resulted in that despicable person even being the opponent in the first place.

Absolutely. By all common sense this is a great night long term for Democrats because they absolutely HAVE to recalibrate their message for more appeal, AND they won't have to face an incumbent in four years.

Meanwhile, there is almost no incentive for Republicans to fix the part of their party that is rotten and sucks and is dominated by grifters.

If the popular center-left democratic governors can wrestle the party away from the coastal woke scolds, they will be in a very good position against JD Vance or Donald Jr LOL.

Not sure...I think there is still a significant part of the electorate that won't vote for a female.

But I am very surprised that such a flawed candidate like Trump could win.

Gerald Ford gave a speech about this. He said it would take a sitting vp to ascend to the presidency for a woman to become president in this country

Problem is even if we were allowed to have another election, which we won't, the Dem will spend four years cleaning up all these messes, the Rs will do nothing but accuse the Dem of having created the messes, and we'll be back to where we are right now, when the public believes the lies.

It was inspired by this post:

Because it isn't a natural law. Supply and demand is a myth. Only workers are expected to play by these rules.

Do you want to start wearing it now, or wait until the FL vote is actually certified?

Another dumb post. Harris isn't the problem. Trump and the Rs are the problem.

Initial exit polling conducted by CNN Tuesday found independent voters in the crucial swing state of Georgia are favoring former President Donald Trump over Vice President Kamala Harris.

LOL. Trump is like the king villain but Joe Biden really messed this up by going for a second term when clearly not up for it. He did the right thing stepping down but it was too late and left us with not the right candidate. The party unified around her, plenty of energy, but she clearly did not get crossover vote.

I don't get why people who make fun of Trump for spewing hate do the exact same thing. You sound like Trump calling people retards and morons.

President for life FDR kept the country wallowing in double digit unemployment until dragging us into WW2.

I'm against shit like that.
I have to say that we disagree on certain things, but I commend your commitment to the isolationist extreme. Do you really think the United States should have sat WWII out? Yeah, yeah, Lend-Lease and all that, but FDR got us into the war and not an unprovoked attack on our naval base? Back in the day when Congress actually declared war, FDR was constitutionally obligated to carry it out as CINC.

Maybe next time the DNC won't game the nomination process.
It seems to go better for them when they have an actual contest in this regard.

It was all his staff who didn’t want to lose their jobs and propped him up and lied about him and shielded everyone from the truth. They are bastards. Dems should cast their ire on them bigly.

She's underperforming all over the place. Her being from the Biden Administration hurt more than any VP could erase.
She lost tons of Jewish votes in the Detroit as well. It’s also going to cost them Senate seats.

She needed Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. That was always the path. Shapiro would have done a lot more than Walz to that end.
