Not an insult at all. My dad was a grunt - M60 gunner for the 101st Airborne and saw combat in Vietnam.
For the record, he's the one that told me that to survive in that environment, you have to leave abstract thinking behind and concentrate on binary decisions. Hence, the "black and white" thinking comment.
