The Toms, Brands and Ryan, respond to Kevin Dresser...

Who was the poster who got Jim Zalesky fired up a few years ago when Iowa hosted Oregon State in the National Duals? He later wrote a letter to Jim, apologizing for his behavior(assuming I have the story correct). Anyways, we should send that guy(and some oranges) to Ann Arbor this weekend to get under Dresser's skin.

I vaguely remember something like that happening. I thought it took place over at Hilton, so not sure if it was Zalesky of not.

Kevin Dresser on a special edition of FRL Friday. Expect Cody and Heffernan to break their silence and enter the fray soon after.

That would be me but I have matured since then!:D

When asked if Brands said he didn't want to wrestle VagTech, Ryan said this: "No. Why would he make a statement about something that he doesn't get to control? The national poll determined!"

He also said NC State was closer to jumping Okie State that Vag Tech was to NC State.

The other one I noticed was -

Feb 17
Thomas Ryan ‏@Buckeye158
Yes. Both Iowa and PSU were slated to host. We knew this could happen and it will be corrected next year.

So next year if two Big Ten teams are #1 and #2 they will wrestle.

It was in Hilton and Zalesky flew off the handle. The guy had nothing to apologize for. He just told Zalesky to get off the mat best I can recall.

Lol. Casey was nonstop with his heckling. I was right there practically on the floor. He was a dick but did make me chuckle a few times. I give him solid credit for coming clean and making amends though.

Vak: You are entitled to your opinion, but there's a lot of speculation in there, and not a whole lot of evidence. The failure to refute is not an "implicit admission" that something happened. Neither Brands nor Ryan was purporting to lay out a point by point rebuttal of Dresser's diatribe. If anything, Ryan's posts seem to me to be an "implicit admission" that Dresser has his facts wrong.

I would have liked to have seen a VT dual with Iowa (even more than NC State), but I'm sort of stunned by Dresser's behavior. If your speculation is right that Brands had a chance to have Iowa wrestle VT but lobbied the committee not to for whatever reason, it's hard for me to feel terribly sad for VT in these circumstances.

To me it was obvious Brands was just taking the high road. If he wanted to avoid the question he would have done just that. He would have not given Hamilton anything.

Dammit, KWood. Stop using words that make me dig out Webster's Dictionary when I'm trying to read this forum. NEFARIOUS... Come on, man!

Sorry...didn't realize I had used that word. Had to go back and look and see where.

Anybody know if Brands has come out publicly and denounced any involvement in the assassination of JFK? He's had plenty of opportunities to deny he had anything to do with it. Why hasn't he just stated publicly that he didn't do it? We should take that as a sign that he's hiding something. Better get somebody to look into this.

I'm not saying this is as "definitive" as a public statement from Tom but I would just note that TnT were not born until 6 years after JFK was allegedly assassinated (hey, for all I know he's working at that Burger King in Kalamazoo with Elvis).

A denial takes until tomorrow yet your BS about how it's all true and they ducked VT you update right away. News flash...Dresser is full of crap...and you seem to be also.

I have a job. I write it when I can at work because my laptop is dead and it would take forever on my iPad. Yesterday was very busy. It's insane that suddenly I'm being accused of being anti-Iowa when pretty much anywhere else in the online wrestling community they think I'm the biggest homer around. Good lord, get a grip.

Coach Brands doesn't have to say anything at all. But if someone accuses you of something, and when you respond you don't deny doing it, it's a pretty easy assumption that you did.

And my job doesn't mean I would treat this the same as a reasonable case. We're not likely to ever know the facts about behind closed doors stuff, so we have to make assumptions based on what evidence we have.

Vak,
Lots of us get twitchy typing fingers and post before we think sometimes. Shrug it off. Level headed posters like yourself are much appreciated. This board has all kinds and that's what makes it so great.
The most important question for you Vak isn't your loyalty to the Hawks but whether or not you think Steven Avery is guilty or innocent?

Vak: Just read your synopsis of the Dresser interview.

You jump to the conclusion early on that Tommy owes the wrestling community an explanation for how the scheduling of Nat Duals went down. I disagree.

I'm guessing the problem TnT have with VATech has nothing to do with their current staff or perceived strength of team this season. As a matter of fact, I get the impression that Tommy maybe just preferred to follow the letter of the rules previously laid out, much like the VT admin did when essentially denying a number of student athletes the right to transfer without losing a year of eligibility back in the day.

It's no mystery there's a history…..

It's only an easy assumption if that is what you feel like assuming. You know the old one about assume though. ;)

Fact: VT didn't get rated high enough to wrestle Iowa at Carver. Everything else doesn't matter. Dresser is making himself look bad. He should be spending his time coaching up his guys instead of being an idiot.

I usually don't get too much in a dander on this stuff as we know TnT do not either. But to continue to pursue this is self serving by original blogger, Kevin Dresser (mostly), and Tom Ryan. All appear to be taking on a self serving mission to keep THEIR name/their school's name out there. I fully understand why TnT avoid this nonsense (ala FLO and various outlets). "We like our team, we will wrestle anyone/anywhere (see Grapple on Gridiron) and we don't worry about things that are out of our control!" Anyone who knows the Brands, know they will NEVER duck anyone, but they also won't help out people with self serving agendas! GOOD for Iowa and TnT! So I guess I am in a dander, HA! Go Hawks!

Tom Ryan and Dresser more importantly will do most anything to continue drawing attention to their program, TnT won't bite! Iowa wrestling doesn't have to! Winning championships/developing student athletes is our priority! True for those that know and that is all that matters!

I do have to wonder...if, say, Dresser offered Iowa money to wrestle in Iowa City (sort of a reverse guarantee), would the Brands brothers take it? Just a thought I'd put out there...

Wait....What? Why would you say that much less think that?

Do you seriously think Brands would schedule VT just for a check in the Sports Dept. bank account? Really???

Especially after the way Dresser has gone off.

That would be motivation for him? Even though Iowa gets more ticket revenue in this Sport than anyone else. Probably by a wide margin. If Brands was motivated or could be influenced by revenue I'm sure he wouldn't be scheduling the Montana States, Buffalo, and Chattanooga's of this world. He'd just go for some more big time revenue meets.

Are you sleep deprived?

I'm not sure if you are aware or not of the Brands strong Christian beliefs. So for "30 pieces of Silver" he'll schedule VT. ?????

Vak probably hasn't considered Brands lack of direct reply to Dressers statements as "Turning the other cheek" either.

Vak makes a LOT about Brands not making a DIRECT answer to Dresser's statements and making a DIRECT DENIAL.

He surely must not be aware of everyday conversation and daily life. MOST people don't make DIRECT statements even when asked a specific question. Guess since we're not under Oath on the witness stand we don't realize how indirect our answers can be.

Sometimes people with strong personal beliefs respond to the World differently than we assume they might. Especially if we don't have similar strong beliefs. It makes it had to understand responses if we have a different world view and frame of reference.

Maybe this has been mentioned but is this show just Dresser making a play for the ISU job?

IMO if Dresser and Daryl Weber went to Ames - watch out!

I just don't see how ISU is even a move up from VT at this point. You would have to recruit against Brands in Iowa (Even Cael got sick of this). The Big 12 is, well honestly I am not even sure there is a Big 12 anymore. ISU's brand is what? 2 of their greatest wrestlers are now synonymous with other school's brands. The ACC is becoming a nice wrestling conference. The VT area is a nice area. Ames is not so much. He can recruit the ridiculous high school riches of PA,OH, NJ much easier than in Ames, IA. The list goes on. The longer that KJ keeps ISU irrelevant the harder it will ever be to make them relevant again. And I will throw in that you now have Schwab at UNI fighting over a lot of the in state talent.

You know, have you ever looked at the schedules of the basketball team, and how there are games against schools from lesser conferences? They're called "Guarantee Games". Take Iowa's game against Tennessee Tech, on December 22nd. How that works is, Tennessee Tech knows that Iowa would fill Carver, and have enough money left over, so the Tennessee Tech Athletic Department would make more money from flying up to IC and getting beaten by 22 points than they would from hosting Iowa. They (the athletic department) get a check from the University of Iowa (called a guarantee) that is, in many cases, used to fund their non-revenue sports teams. This is slightly different, in that Virginia Tech would be both going up to Iowa City AND paying the guarantee (and it's in a non-revenue sport), but I would be highly surprised if, for the right amount of money, Tom Brands wouldn't "welcome" the Hokies with open double-underhooks. Whether Dresser would be willing to meet that price, and whether the Virginia Tech athletic director (Whit Babcock, it should be noted that Jim Weaver has passed away since he neglected to release Borschel, LeClere, Leet, Metcalf, and Slaton) would let Dresser meet that price, is another matter.

As far as me being sleep deprived, yes, very much so. Was up at 3 o'clock this morning to head up to Annapolis tonight, then State College tomorrow.

See you Monday in Iowa City!

bullcrap you said I do not believe tom here. you are calling him a liar with no proof, that is bs

Vak, I see you removed your reply post to wasdt21. That makes it harder for me to reply to your post. But I'll try anyway since a lot of this whole issue seems not complely apparent or visible.

That settles it folks. Nail in the coffin.

Vak's reply to wasdt21 did NOT explicitly deny that it was BS. Vak did not directly answer wasdt21's accusations so it is easy to assume it is true.

How'd I do Vak? That seems to be the pattern you followed with Brands. See how easy it is to make a poor assumption.

You seem to have decided Brands is guilty of something without any proof. Just your assumption that something happened behind the scenes that none of us are privy to. We choose to give the benefit of the doubt to someone without more proof. You know, innocent until......well you know.

Here's the most probable scenario:

Dresser finally has a team that can compete with the Hawks, but NCST gets the Hawks instead(rightfully so according to the contract). Dresser believes that VT/IA is the better matchup, even though that goes against what the contract stipulates. So Dresser didn't get his way, so now he is acting like a spoiled little brat who didn't get his way. He is willing to go on any podcast that will give him a forum to cry. Dresser's logic seems to be that if he cries loud enough IA has to give him a dual in the future. BTW, CP didn't ask any hard questions whatsoever on FRL.

Because there are now two different versions of how they got to that point. Dresser is claiming that the only reason they "went by the poll" is because the Brands are "pussies" and refused to wrestle him. Ryan is just saying they went by the poll. However, his statement doesn't necessarily conflict with Dresser. Why did the committee have to "vote to follow the contract" if that was always the plan? It just doesn't make logical sense. It would be like you and your family voting on whether you should inhale your next breath. That was always the plan, why would you vote on it?
I've enjoyed most of your posts but you need to quit sniffing Dressers jock. I understand he gives you the time of day and he's probably a pal but you've been a bit biased this week. I'm guessing you don't practice law correct?

Also, yes I am a practicing attorney.

2. It's not bs. That actually is my opinion. You see, when two people tell opposite stories, one of them is necessarily telling a lie, whatever the purpose of the lie might be.

Actually two guys...Tom Ryan as well.

This thread just needs deleted. VAK is a huge Hawkeye fan and defends Iowa all the time on many message boards. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. No reason to turn this into civil war!

Nothing like a lecture on civil wars from the guy with the tasteless digs at Stoll.

No, just Ryan. Brands never actually said he didn't do it, so he hasn't lied, at least in my opinion of what went down.

Weird....another attorney who has never spoken to his client defending another crook.

Nobody is my client. I'm listening to what people said, which is our only evidence, and drawing conclusions based on their words and the inconsistencies between two stories, as well as applying logic.
