Minny dual predictions

This is what I predict. This won't be easy for Iowa, although I do expect that they will win.

125: Flynn dec Cruz (0-3)
133: Ayala MD Wells (4-3)
141: Vombaur TF Schriever (4-8)
149: Parco MD Roberts (8-8)
157: Teemer dec Askey (11-8) <- This match is probably the decider. Askey beats Estrada (or Teemer if not 100%).
165: Caliendo dec Sparks (14-8)
174: Kennedy dec Whiting (17-8)
184: McEnelly dec Arnold (17-11)
197: Buchanan dec Salazar (20-11)
HWT: Steveson TF Kueter (20-16)

If you flip 157, Minny wins 19-17. Vombaur and Steveson should ensure that Minny has more bonus points, so Iowa needs the 6th match. Caliendo-Sparks and Kennedy-Whiting are also matches that could be upsets on a bad day, but I don't expect that for either one. Minny has a solid team this year.
Interesting fact is the last time Cullen wrestled Vombaur he beat him by MD, granted that was 4 years ago lol!

Most concerning is this staff really miscalculated what they had at 125/141 this season.
I don't think they miscalculated 125. I think they understood it was a project from the start. They're getting from Cruz probably about what they expected from Peterson. At 141, I think they did underestimate how much Block's cut would sap from him. He'll be much better at 149 or even 157 next year.

This seems to be the consensus, and I agree with everything you said.

Unfortunately (for me) I think the most likely upset of the night is Cruz over Flynn at 125. Flynn is dealing with two separate but substantial injuries right now, and has not been wrestling nearly as well as he did at the beginning of the season. Cruz seems to be on the opposite trajectory.

I hope the dual starts at 125, so if he loses I can just accept rather quickly that winning the dual is not possible.
Minny has a really good team this year. They should get Flynn healthy rather than wrestle duals and get ready to compete in the tourneys. They will get lots of points in the tourneys from Gable, Vombauer, Mcenelly, Salazaar but would benefit from some of the possible points of the mid tier wrestlers.

The off season/portal will tell us what they expect from Block.
Hindsight being 20/20, Peterson maybe should have been the 141?

If they go back into the portal for 149/157 range guys (where Block should be), it says a lot about what they expect not only from Block but also Estrada and the Voinovich brothers, who were pretty highly regarded as recruits. Bo is coming in at the weight range after another year, so if they think they need a stop gap, it signals a loss of faith in all of those guys. Not sure what's going on with the Voinovich guys, but with Block, it really looked like too much of a cut. He looked like Jack Skellington at 141 (he's 5'11"...). I think he will be a lot better at a more manageable class and Estrada has looked good filling in, too. I think you'll probably see Estrada at 149 and Block 157 next year, and they'll both be in the hunt for AA spots at those weights. That seems like where their natural weights should be. With Parco and Teemer, neither had a spot open for them at those weights this year. They may need a portal guy for 141, but that depends on Peterson's development there.

With the upcoming roster limits, do you think we'll see several guys leaving town...specifically the guys you mentioned?

It's a possibility. Nothing to do with roster limits, but Block, Estrada, and the Voino brothers are all good enough to find a starting spot somewhere if they can't crack the lineup at Iowa. Either PK or Gabe is going to be squeezed out, too, when Angelo is out of RS.

Not to say Block didn’t have a tough cut, but wasn’t a bad knee also a thing?

He had the serious knee issue last year. Was it still a problem? I don't know anything about that.
I thought it was the reason he got a late start this season….and since I didn’t see a definitive statement as to why he was out of the lineup again, I gave performance, tough cut, or re-injury more-or-less equal plausibility.

Love my man Roy "fu**in Kent!! LMAO!!

Apparently both Block and Peterson were cutting a lot of weight for their projected spots.

Been a very long time since the lighter weights were the weak spots. Decades!
Peterson was cutting a lot to try and make 125, not 133. He just is what he is, a lower end recruit. Call it miscalculated like you did or whatever you want but yes things were not planned well having to roll with Cruz at 125 and super tall Block essentially holding the same weight he graduated highschool at plus coming off a knee injury.

No AA at 41 from 2012-2019, granted I’d take Max over the current starters. Since Max went to 49, prior to this year 41 had been filled with transfers.
I am hoping With the recruitment of Bo and DeLuca we can build some momentum in the bottom four weights with recruitment and development. We need it to compete for NCAA titles. If Drake sticks around, in addition to SL and DeSanto that’s pretty salty.

I don't know what you mean. They were planning on Peterson for 125. But I also think that was only after striking out on some transfers, versus necessarily being a miscalculation.

Injuries this year, no portal pickups, and weight issues from mid recruits are hurting, good news is it can all be fixed in a years time with the portal and stud frosh anymore.

I don’t think it had anything to do with getting sued. NCAA wanted to ensure there was adequate participation and enrollment with no guarantee of a season being completed in 20-21. Therefore they just made it a blanket not counting season for everyone.
Should of just gave the covid seniors the extra year

Is there a way to watch online? I'm driving and can't put my YouTube TV on my phone for some reason.
