Thanks for posting. That was a slow burn. Things went off the rails and I think everyone could have handled it better.
Agree that viewing the entire thing is key to adequately form an opinion on the dynamic and what went wrong.
Zelensky was probably ambushed in the meeting but he should know how to deal with Trump like Putin does.
Zelensky should have brought some medals to the White House and presented them on camera to Trump declaring him the world's greatest statesman.
Then, Zelensky should have showered Trump with praise for 30 minutes and invited him to Kiev where they would unveil a giant golden statue to Trump.
Zelensky should not have attempted to argue with Trump on camera. You can't argue successfully with Trump.
Trump is an empty, malignant narcissist and I'm disappointed Zelensky didn't deal with him better.

Can any of you imagine Trump and Vance ever treating Putin the way they did Zelensky? I sure can't.

If you watch the whole thing it becomes clear that it wasn't an ambush. They all played a part in that going off the rails.
He wasn't well prepared. He should have switched to Ukrainian when things got testy. Also I think some of the personality traits that made him particularly well suited to stand up to the Russians make it difficult for him to deal with Trump. Trump wanted him to say that this war never would have happened if Trump was President. But that is tough for the President of Ukraine to say because his people know they have been at war since 2014.
Certainly doesn’t give me much confidence in the quality of leadership. Rubio sitting in silence on the couch was sad.
Maybe not from Trump. But Vance looked ready to pounce. He was itching to get in and score some points with the old man. Trump is Trump. Vance added nothing to the talks and made things worse.
It was an ambush.
Vance should never have even been there. Trump wanted everyone to feel he was the superior being in the room and making his guest inferior and on Vances level and not his. That is why Vance did all the talking at first.
Actually glad he stood up to the bully and at least the rest of the world recognizes it for what it was.

Rubio's body posture when the idiot reporter acted like a 7th grade bully said a lot. I wish Rubio would have turned around and told the reporter that his question to Zalensky was disrepectful. It makes perfect sense that he's married to MTG.
Rubio should have duct taped Vance’s mouth shut.
The Vance thing made me question if it was an ambush. Outnumber him two to one.
I agree that Vance was likely wanting to jump in but go to the 40:30 mark. That's exactly when Zalensky opened the door. It started when Zalensky said to Vance, "Can I ask you?", and then proceeds to give a forward leaning lecture on history and then concludes at the 42:10 mark by asking Vance what kind of diplomacy he was talking about.
Stuff like that needs to be handled privately. He was calling Vance out.
I think they were waiting for the opportunity to ambush him. Zelensky took the bait and Vance went 0-60 really quick. Zelensky did himself no favors trying to argue with Trump and Vance in this type of setting but I don’t blame him on trying to get his point across. IMO you have to pick and choose your battles with this administration. On live TV where Trump is the most comfortable is probably not the best time to have that battle.
Bottom line it was a disaster. There needs to be some deescalation on both sides Trump and Zelensky. Zelensky needs to get the point across that we need lasting peace.
And you Trump are the key to that.

The video is prefer to see is the bipartisan meeting VZ had with senators prior. Surprise. We are seeing conflicting reports. I’ve read reports that D leaders were advising him to reject the deal. I’ve also read that the senators advised him on how to communicate and work with Trump. It appears VZ ignored that advice.
Still no excuse for the shit show in the Oval Office.
