There is not enough disrespect for Rutgers on this Forum

Yes, and I am proud to say that I went to all the real Big 10 stadiums too, but wont ever go to those three and spend my money. I wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire.

From an athletic perspective, Rutgers adds nothing to the conference (probably makes it worse tbh). From an academic perspective, they fit right in. From a financial standpoint, they boost the conference.

Actually, athletically we compete well in a lot of non-revenue sports which has bolstered the conference - same with Maryland. For example, with the addition of the 2 of us the Big Ten was able to finally form a Men's Lacrosse league.

Lacrosse, wrestling, and women's soccer are about it

That's a shame. In my experience I've found the Nebraska folks to be generally very cool. Also I once had a thing with a lovely young UNeb professor who was quite... enthusiastic.

I liked this only because there isn't anything more....enthusiastic.

No offense but....yawn.

Well two out of three ain't bad.;) Athletically, you guys do realize we're way behind the eight ball due to lack of money. Fact is we have none and run on a subsidy from the school. We'll be running a subsidy until 2021. Our facilities are subpar and we can't afford to pay for coaches. Everything the athletic department does money wise is scrutinized down to the dollar. We simply can't begin to close the gap until 2021 and even then it'll probably take another 5 to 10 years to catch up.:(

Thanks for the BIG TEN-welcome.

Except almost no one in that market is watching Rutgers.

The recruiting area is the recruiting area. Conference affiliation does not matter.
You should probably do some research in that. And you are welcome for the additional millions we are making you through the BTN

You are not making us anything. Somehow they got it on basic cable. You don't bring a fan base and the dollars come from a lot of people who don't watch the BTN at all.

Again look it up. I know you are trolling but the fact it's on basic cable means they pay whether they watch it or not. So, yea, you are welcome.

Which means simply because you are in the region the BTN used it as an excuse to get itself on those networks. The same thing could have been accomplished by Fordham

Yup but they weren't . It was us. Again, maybe you should do some research on who watches us. Including the most watched games in the NY market and ESPN.

It's a message board so the OP is entitled to his own opinion. I completrely disagrees with him and am glad Rutgers has joined the B1G. They have a lot to offer the league and have played some good football in the recent past. With available talent and future resources they can build their athletic programs up.

I wish Rutgers nothing but the best except when we play.

Iowa fans,
Most of you only know Rutgers over the past two years. We know, it's basically been an ugly stretch. Here is a couple of quick things you may or may not know. First, RU fans finally feel that the university is investing in sports and made some terrific hires in Ash (fb) and Pikel (BBall). This year is a complete rebuild for both programs but fans expect a win improvement in year one, based on how bad the previous season was. Over the past 10 years Rutgers football has been up and down but overall on the rise. The 79 wins (2005 to 2014) is more than Michigan, Iowa and northwestern. I understand the old Big East is not the the Big Ten but very respectable. Rutgers basically played and Ivy League schedule from 1869 to 1983. In the 50s, 60s and 70s Rutgers was very competitive (multiple undefeated seasons) and was considered for the rose bowl on multiple occasions. Rutgers did not decide to go big time with football until the mid 90s and the 10-20 year gap really put them behind. They are still playin catch up.

I think you will find our fan base passionate and mostly friendly. New Jersey gets a bad rap but if you visit you will find some great tailgating on game day and some beautiful scenery throughout NJ. It's a top 5 state for income and eduction levels for a reason. Close to NYC, beautiful beaches and abundant nature and history.

Well I'm done. I respect the heck out of Iowa and I'm hoping for a competitive game tomorrow. Good luck the rest of the season.

Its not really smack about the teams. I will hate Rutgers being in the Big 10 win, lose or draw. Piss on em....

You don't belong in the Big 10, and your presence ruins tradition. So does Nebraska and Maryland. Penn State should be gone too. The conference is a joke and being affiliated with anything in the east makes me sick. I would rather have Canadians.

Yeah...the 20-30K people they have show up at games reflects that.

Not to let facts get in the way.... but Rutgers averaged 50,632 in 2014 and 47,723 in 2015 representing a 6% drop in attendance.

Iowa averaged 67,512 in 2014 and 63,412 in 2015 representing a 6% drop in attendance.

Carry on....

I don't think this team can guarantee anything at this point. We tend to play down to our competition and hold on for dear life at the end. Zero killer instinct. A new attitude is needed if we think this would be an easy win.
Game 1 we won by 24 and game 2 we won by 39. That's holding on for dear life and playing to ISUs level?

To many on here with selective memory that only remember what fits to their agenda.

Thanks for the history lesson. While I enjoy the classic B10 matchups, it's kinda fun getting to know the newcomers to the conference (unlike the OP).

I also enjoy the additions of new venues and matchups. The new East-West fits well for playing close geographic rivals every year. Then there is 3 cross-overs and a shot at a title game that puts you into the CFB if you win it most years.

This conference has always embraced a 'high-tide lifts all boats' mentality. That's one thing the B1G has above many of the other power conferences who fight, bicker and back-stab each other. We collaborate and support one another while trying to knock the crap out of each other on the field. The 3 new members are partners and we embrace them with open arms and enjoy the new rivalries.
