"They don't have the resources here. Watch what you wish for."--Tom Izzo

Is it time to move on? Yeah, probably, but come on; Fran is nothing like Lick.

What he really means is, “Iowa is a crap program that isn’t capable of sustained success.”

And he probably isn’t wrong.

We are #18 out of 18 B1G teams in NIL compensation. Will that improve with a new head coach? Hopefully.

Will that long talked about Carver renovation improve things for recruiting and for winning? Hopefully.

Remember, too, that Izzo has a billionaire sugar daddy when it comes to NIL; so does Iowa State.

I would like to play devil's advocate with the belief that Iowa has no NIL support. So if I'm a B1G head coach making millions to recruit and produce wins and I am not getting the support I need and deserve - I would have a serious sitdown with the AD and Prez and start making this a priority in the program. Seriously as a head coach and high competitor that wants to win what choice would you have? Again I'm being paid millions and want nothing but to win.....I become a squeaky wheel and demand more financial support and make the program better. The impression I get of FMAC is he is happy making the $$$$ and never improving the weak parts of his teams, I never hear of Coaches - AD - Iowa staff promoting the program and give $$$ to get better. The big question mark is why is Iowa always lacking athletes and playing defense. College Basketball is mostly recruiting and having a solid ALL AROUND coaching system that makes athletes better and prepares them for the next level. Now they have to be PR guys and get $$$$ also - it's the way it is. Several older top coaches had enough and retired.

Agreed 100 percent. In today’s NIL era, the next coach needs to be not only good at finding and effectively using good players, he also needs to be a salesman, a marketer, for the program with fans and students. Connect with them. Build excitement. Get the blood — and dollars — flowing.

I refuse to believe there’s no money for Iowa MBB. IMHO there is a great reservoir of energy and financial support waiting to be tapped by the right HC.

At least come up with some fresh ideas for NIL for men’s bball and promote the crap out of it, here’s a random idea:

find a few big donors who maybe on the fence about throwing large sums,, maybe they will if they know their donation will be matched… same thing for the average Joe fans… so why not do a 24 hour period or whatever, where the big donors agree to match every other NIL donation, dollar for dollar.. the small donations all get doubled, everyone feels like their donation goes further.

This is just a random idea, but they have do come up with something, some way and Fran kinda has to be a cheerleader for it.

Add NIL donation to the hyvee checkout line. "Would you like to round up .59 to get a four star prospect for the Iowa men's bball team?"

Well, my mind is changed.

I'm now solidly on the keep Fran bandwagon. I mean...they wanted to fire Izzo three years ago and he just won an outright Big Ten championship. We only have to wait 2 or 3 more years for ours!

lol

It's weird to me how comfortable Izzo is in lecturing other administrations and fan bases like he's some wise elder statesman oracle. I mean....I respect what he has accomplished as a coach, and what he has built at MSU. He's a Hall of Fame legend but whatever happened to humility?

Support your peers. I'm fine with that. He likes Fran. That's touching.

But this "be careful what you wish for" "10-15% of the people cause all the problems.." crap is just Izzo saying: "look, your program is an also ran program, and if you were as wise as I am you would understand that you should just be happy with that. It's folly to try to compete with the MSUs of the world "

Gee...thanks, Tom. But you know what? I think we're going to give it a shot anyway.

Maybe Izzo should hire him as an assistant. Maybe resources are low because nobody wants to throw $$ at Fran’s teams and watch him piss away talent like he already has. The women’s program is rolling with a sold out Carver every night. The mens program needs to turn the page on Fran

I don’t buy that Iowa basketball can’t be in the middle of NIL dollars. I know they aren’t now but it’s a matter of the ad figuring out how to move budgets and attract dollars to get there. If our ad can’t figure that out than she needs to step down as well.

But when Fran has had the talent he has struggled developing game plans in season eliminating games. He deserves some praise for something’s but not a life time contract. Especially when weaknesses on year 1 are still the same coaching issues 15 years later.

There is a direct correlation between butts in the seats and NIL dollars. The problem right now is that fans have checked out. You bring excitement back, you bring hope back, and the fans will return. The arena will fill, and the NIL dollars will be there.

There are several things that can be done to improve fan engagement, but a new coach is first and foremost by far.

Please see Iowa womens bball team for all around team play

Fran just needs the next LeBron to grow up in Iowa, become a hawk ,like Caitlin, and have a 4 year run as the greatest college player ever and our men's program will match the women's program in fan enthusiasm.

Comparing our 2 programs is apples and oranges as CC was a unicorn that changed the entire sport. ....the women's MJ.

F-U Izzo, Fran has done nothing in the Big Dance in 15 years….comparing Fran’s current situation to your 3 year lull (when u played your son no less) is laughable….Izzo comes off as an arrogant a hole along with his dirty buddy Mark Dantonio….his prior comments about Lick proved to be a joke and now he is doubling down 15 years later. If you love him so much, maybe he can be your protege in East Lansing?

I think Jan has shown us what coaching can accomplish.

The women's team was gutted by the loss of CC and company. Add in a new HC and a bunch of freshman and you've got a recipe for a long season.
And let's face it, the Hawks weren't very good at defense the last few years, even with CC. And most of their offensive production was gone.

January was rough. But now they look darned good, especially on defense. Quite a transformation.

Does Iowa have more "talent" than the teams they've beaten in the last 6 weeks? I don't really think so.

Kudos to the coaches and players keeping it together and getting better.

It can be done on the men's side too with the right HC.

Iowa has lost the entire Fanbase except for the die hards, That does not get fixed until there is a new Coach and Iowa Basketball is seen as must watch like it was during Lute and Dr Tom . It has been done in the past and Iowa can get to be a mid NIL and supported program , Look at Iowa's Women and Iowa Football. The problem is Fran . Iowa BB can not be repaired till He is catapulted into the sun with His buy out cash and a scowl

Why would a coach not impact NIL?
