And yes, we all know about Tom's support of Todd Lickliter in year 3 and Tom thinking Iowa should give (and have given) Lickliter more time.

If only we had given Todd Lickliter a little more time like Izzo said too!

Says the guy who wanted us to keep Lick.
If he put as much effort into campaigning for opposing coaches on the hot seat the same way he cries to the refs, he might get somewhere with it.
Lifetime contract for Fran, then?
Nah. Bring in McCollum.
Is it time to move on? Yeah, probably, but come on; Fran is nothing like Lick.
What he really means is, “Iowa is a crap program that isn’t capable of sustained success.”
And he probably isn’t wrong.
Any B1G coach would want Fran to stay on.
Almost a guaranteed win.
For 5'9 he's got a great wingspan. I'll give him that.
Play him at the point to defend the indefensible. For 5'9 he's got a great wingspan. I'll give him that.
I would like to play devil's advocate with the belief that Iowa has no NIL support. So if I'm a B1G head coach making millions to recruit and produce wins and I am not getting the support I need and deserve - I would have a serious sitdown with the AD and Prez and start making this a priority in the program. Seriously as a head coach and high competitor that wants to win what choice would you have? Again I'm being paid millions and want nothing but to win.....I become a squeaky wheel and demand more financial support and make the program better. The impression I get of FMAC is he is happy making the $$$$ and never improving the weak parts of his teams, I never hear of Coaches - AD - Iowa staff promoting the program and give $$$ to get better. The big question mark is why is Iowa always lacking athletes and playing defense. College Basketball is mostly recruiting and having a solid ALL AROUND coaching system that makes athletes better and prepares them for the next level. Now they have to be PR guys and get $$$$ also - it's the way it is. Several older top coaches had enough and retired.
Agreed 100 percent. In today’s NIL era, the next coach needs to be not only good at finding and effectively using good players, he also needs to be a salesman, a marketer, for the program with fans and students. Connect with them. Build excitement. Get the blood — and dollars — flowing.I would like to play devil's advocate with the belief that Iowa has no NIL support. At least come up with some fresh ideas for NIL for men’s bball and promote the crap out of it, here’s a random idea:
find a few big donors who maybe on the fence about throwing large sums,, maybe they will if they know their donation will be matched… same thing for the average Joe fans… so why not do a 24 hour period or whatever, where the big donors agree to match every other NIL donation, dollar for dollar.. the small donations all get doubled, everyone feels like their donation goes further.
This is just a random idea, but they have do come up with something, some way and Fran kinda has to be a cheerleader for it.
Well, my mind is changed.
Does Izzo have access to Iowa resources now? How is the NIL doing for women's BB? Wrestling? Just curious if winning has an effect.
But...but....Maybe Izzo should hire him as an assistant. Maybe resources are low because nobody wants to throw $$ at Fran’s teams and watch him piss away talent like he already has. The women’s program is rolling with a sold out Carver every night. The mens program needs to turn the page on Fran
There is a direct correlation between butts in the seats and NIL dollars. The problem right now is that fans have checked out. You bring excitement back, you bring hope back, and the fans will return. The arena will fill, and the NIL dollars will be there.I don’t buy that Iowa basketball can’t be in the middle of NIL dollars. I know they aren’t now but it’s a matter of the ad figuring out how to move budgets and attract dollars to get there. If our ad can’t figure that out than she needs to step down as well.
Please see Iowa womens bball team for all around team playI would like to play devil's advocate with the belief that Iowa has no NIL support. To be fair, the revenue from the gate this year doesn't allow for much more. From someone at the game:
Halftime show was a college student shooting a few half court shots if you're wondering what kind of effort the athletic department puts into the gameday experience.
That is not the point. Is it time to move on? Yeah, probably, but come on; Fran is nothing like Lick.
Izzo wanted Iowa to retain her, too.But...but....
Angie Lee!!!

F-U Izzo, Fran has done nothing in the Big Dance in 15 years….comparing Fran’s current situation to your 3 year lull (when u played your son no less) is laughable….Izzo comes off as an arrogant a hole along with his dirty buddy Mark Dantonio….his prior comments about Lick proved to be a joke and now he is doubling down 15 years later. If you love him so much, maybe he can be your protege in East Lansing?
We are #18 out of 18 B1G teams in NIL compensation. Will that improve with a new head coach? Hopefully.
Will that long talked about Carver renovation improve things for recruiting and for winning? Hopefully.
Remember, too, that Izzo has a billionaire sugar daddy when it comes to NIL; so does Iowa State.
