"They don't have the resources here. Watch what you wish for."--Tom Izzo

I guess my question on the matter is why if we have no NIL, a coach who doesn’t care, are we suddenly doing so well in recruiting for MBB? I’m not saying this as a defense of Fran or anything, I just find it curious.

That is a good question.

And why are kids (especially those who have committed) still visiting Iowa City on game days if the coach is supposedly on his way out?

The big NIL deals are kept confidential. And I am not saying anyone who has recently committed is getting a "big deal;" I have no idea. Maybe Iowa is offering them the best overall deal? Ie, NIL, playing time, etc.

We dont have the resources? We have a 15,000 seat arena that is very good, not great. We have a ton of money coming into the Athl Dept yearly with contracts. That is questionable comment

And how much of that money is invested in the Iowa MBB program?

One example of Iowa MBB not being a priority: a Carver renovation has been talked about for years now.

So tell me if OSU has a $20M plus NIL and $20M revenue sharing can they outbid the Hawks?
Osu and the majority of the rest of the big ten being able to out bid Iowa doesn't mean that Iowas recruiting cannot also improve relative to where it has been.

There's obviously way more players than can all go to big ten and SEC schools.

The proof of this is the fact that Iowas recruiting is currently improving relative to where it has been despite a shity season and despite not directly competing with OSU MSU ect.

But, even if Iowas recruiting improves, the gap between Iowa and the top of the conferences recruiting will likely increase because their recruiting will improve more than Iowas will.

That's why having the right coach is crucial for Iowa.

Time to fire a lot of these B1G coaches!

Start with Rutgers' head coach (all that talent & that's all he does?) and work your way down this list.

Take in context where each school and coach is.

IU already getting a new one. USC, PSU, UW new coaches. MN coach could be fired in year 3 with no success. Pickell and Collins took over awful programs at RU and NW with no success 20 years prior if not even longer and taken team to the tourney multiple times so they aren’t going anywhere after 1 down year. Fred year 6 1 tourney appearance maybe seat is warm next year after late season collapse but in the tourney last season. Then you have Fran in year 15.

Thought maybe you had more detailed information. For example you said Iowa is dead last, how much did they have? You have said some schools have a billionaire Sugar Daddy, and have referenced Iowa State. How much did they spend? I ask as you have spoke definitively about it so thought you might have numbers.
That's just it. Supposedly everything is confidential, so there's zero transparency around all this NIL crap. I guess all we can do is take everyone at their word. I don't like it.

This is Steve Pikiell's 9th season at Rutgers.

Chris Collins has been at Northwestern 12 seasons.

and revenue sharing numbers likely won't be released, either, because the players fought to not be designated as employees

Again have to take in context for each program. These 2 schools were literally doormats and laughing stocks for decades before each took over. IU other hand getting new coach 10-10 in conf and just barely making the tourney isn’t good enough.

Pickell took them to first tourney berth in 30 years and there back to back years 21-22 and would’ve been 3 if not Covid. Plus their first win in the tourney since 83’. Collins previous 2 seasons made 2nd rd and 3rd overall under him (1 less than Fran). For a program that had never even played in ncaa tourney game before he took over.

not sure how much money we have coming in but that comment tells me izzo likes iowa bb as much as fitz liked iowa fb

Wrong again. You're on a roll!

What year was that? Lickliter was the coach correct?

Should have kept him 😂

Personally, I think a change is likely coming.

At the same time, I think Izzo respects the job Fran has done and understands the challenges Fran faces.

Izzo has a sugar daddy to pay his players for NIL; Iowa does not.

You win.

We should keep Fran, Fran.

I think Beth makes a change. Time will tell.

But you guys are acting like Iowa is a great coaching job; it simply isn't; the Iowa job ranks way down there when you rank the power conference schools (B1G, SEC, Big 12, ACC, Big East).

You guys are also acting like Izzo has owed Fran; he simply hasn't.

It's beyond time to make the change.

Doesn't mean that Fran is a bad coach or a bad guy. I love that he's a player 1st coach.

We've just seen the same movie way too many times and no signs of real change are in sight for the Fran Hawkeyes
