1st half.
Announcers say Iowa gets Welsh back after a tough run performance last week. No mention of Daniels being back.

Announcers said Rutgers had 3 1st downs the whole year in the 1st quarter. 6 against Iowa in the 1st quarter.

Beth says the AD sipped a beer. No Beth, he chugged it. Actually thought Beth was pretty good all day long. Her voice is still annoying but I thought she was on point.

14:20 left in 1st. There 1st long run King was in position to make the play but was held for 7 yards. Even Beth saw that and called it but the refs didn’t see it that way.

13:35 left in 1st, Rutgers 3rd and 3 Hesse beats the Tackle the tackle grabs him from behind. Parker looked at ref for the call but it wasn’t made.

There longest drive of the day was 16 plays, it ends at 9 if Manny doesn’t line up off sides

12:50 left in 1st was Matt Nelson’s first sack, he was held.

Our first blitz was on 1st drive on 2nd and 8. Nieman and Bowers both blitzed and forced QB to run up middle, Faith should have been there but he was accidentally tripped by A. Nelson.

4th and 1, they get a nice spot. Ref comes in at the 12 and then puts ball at the 11 ½.

Great call by KF to decline the offensive pass interference call. Would have been a chip shot FG on 4th and 6, but gave his D 1 more play and got a huge sack out of Parker for it.

8:12 in 1st, Croston with a pancake

6:02 in 1st, 3rd and 10 they bring a blitz, their OLB was lined up off sides and he was the one that forced CJ to run. Also on that play, WTF were they thinking calling that a fumble? Wasn’t even Close.

5:10 in 1st, pretty obvious Miles Taylor was our spy on Grant. He ate up a 5 yard loss.

Next play was our 2nd blitz, Josey right up the gut and blasts QB. He got throw off but quick throw for not enough yards forcing punt

1:50 in 1st it is hard to see but looks like we have 5 CBs on the field. Jackson, Manny and Ojemudia were the other 3 CBs. One may have been Taylor but I couldn’t really see that well.

Leshun Daniels 1st two carries were both for 10 yards. He didn’t get a touch until the 3rd possession of the game. They were really working Wadley early.

14:14 in 2nd, our 3rd blitz, Taylor comes up on a run blitz and just destroys the FB. .

9:30 in 2nd, our 3rd straight 3rd and 10 that CJ looks for Smith as option 1. He hit him for first downs on 2 of them and had to run early due to a blitz but was looking Smiths way.

8:30 in 2nd, Wadley nice run to the left and takes a shot at Helmet of a Rutgers player. That wasn’t a stiff arm that was a helmet slap.

#51 of Rutgers was talking shit to L. Daniels all 1st half. Ref talked to him several times but never really did anything about it.

On the 4th and 5, Smith was open CJ just flat missed him

Grant’s long reception, Taylor misses first tackle, Snyder misses him, King misses him but Desmond makes the stop and a big stop it was. He damn near gets the strip on that play at the end. You can see him hit the top of his helmet but the hand comes down and you can see the ball wiggle a bit.

After that play, 1st and goal they bring in running QB. How many said here comes an easy TD? The Outlaw was phenomenal on that series. 4 straight stuffs as he was in on Kings stop on 4th down.

On the goal line stand, Chris Ash and many in the game thread said if he pitches the ball the RB walks in for a TD. Watch where Desmond is and where the RB is. The RB ran too far in front and I think if he pitched it Desmond was waiting for that pitch and I think could have grabbed it.

1:20 left in 1st, CJ hits George for a nice 20 yd gain, the FB has some hops. Thought it was for him and he damn near got his finger on it.

Later that drive, same thing, CJ I think was throwing to Matt and Kittle jumped up and tipped it and Matt caught it anyway for a 1st down.

The TD to Kittle, just about everybody on Rutgers defense in the general area thought that was going to be a bubble screen to Matt.

2nd half
To start the 2nd half, Leshun’s TD run. It’s been said but worth saying again, horseshit call. Also, J. Smith with a great block down field to make that happen as well as all the OL blocks.

14:00 3rd, James Daniels on a screen 25 yards down field leading the way for Akrum

12:18 3rd, They get Croston on holding and it was a good call. They did miss Akrum being tackled about 2 yards out of bounds. Once again Beth sees but refs don’t.

11:10 3rd quarter, Bazata pancaked their guard

8:35 3rd quarter, Jewels puts a smack on the QB. The very next play Snyder lays out the WR forcing an incompletion. Snyder with some fire on the sidelines after that.

7:54 3rd after a punt, Amani Jones gives a Rutgers player some trash talk. Not sure what happened but Jones looked fired up.

5:10 in 3rd, Snyder with a big hit and Desmond lets him knows he likes it. The very next play, A. Nelson with an incredible 1st step off the LOS. If It was a pass play it was an easy sack, as it was it was a run up the middle.

Beth picks up on Desmond King on the left side of the field. Someone in lounge mentioned he goes to that side when there are trips that way and nobody on his side.

After Desmond’s big kick return, Iowa was looking for the deep ball right away. It wasn’t there and CJ got sacked.

9:00 in 4th , Iowa blitzes with Jewell, Hesse gets sack but play broke down due to Josey.

Wadley’s TD run, Croston, Meyers Kulick and Smith with great blocks, J. Daniels with a pancake of the DT. After the TD, Weisman on the sidelines talking to Akrum.

The follow play was the PAT naturally. #53 jumps right over the OL. They throw the flag but then pick it up. Not sure what the rule is but he clearly jumped our guard.

Rutgers final drive, 7 minutes left, Nieman came off and Kevin Ward was in. His 2nd play in, there was confusion between him and Miles Taylor as they both went with the same player leaving an open completion for a 1st down. Taylor hustled back to make the tackle. Ben came back in after that play.

Rutgers final 4th down, Jaleel comes out. Was nice to see the two most hated players on our roster by the minority bitch fans Snyder and Bower get the final stop. Kevin ward was in on that play again but never could decipher who he replaced. I think Nieman was in.

After Rutgers TD, the NJ crowd singing Living on a Prayer by Native band Bon Jovi. Thought that was pretty cool.

The reverse to Scheel was way too slow to develop. Not sure but it looked like CJ was too deep and Jay had to run backwards to get the ball.

The last 1st down, awesome to see Leshun and James enjoying that moment.

RUTGERS HAD 29 1ST DOWN PLAYS. 23 RUSHES FOR 106 YDS, 6 PASSES FOR 6 YDS. Over 4 ½ yds per carry on 1st down. 3 of those runs were for 19, 19 and 12. Half of their 1st down rushes were for 3 yds or less.

Iowa on 1st down 20 carries 141 yds. 6 passes 13 yds and a sack. Over 7 yds a carry on 1st down. Imagine how much that goes up if you take away a 7 yd gain and replace it with a 75 yd gain that was wiped out for a horrible call.

Just over 20% of Rutgers rushing attempts were on the 1st drive of the game. They had 4 long drives.

16 plays, 1st drive of the game.

9 plays, after a 13 play Iowa drive.

13 Plays, after a 3 and out by Iowa, that drive includes the changing of 3rd and 4th quarter.

10 plays, after a 1 play TD drive.

Raider back in today. Ran it 7 times by my count. A. Nelson, Mends and Hesse on the line, 4 CBs are in the game.

Rushed 3, Hesse gets there causing a quick throw but Manny was clearly lined up off sides.
Rushed 3, Hesse gets sack
Rushed 5, Nieman and Jewell also rushing with the line. forced quick throw incomplete
Rushed 3, all day to throw, Desmond with an easy bat down
Rushed 3, A. Nelson almost gets there. Forces QB to take off and he throws it away
Rushed 3, quick throw, good coverage by Jackson just a better throw and catch.
Rushed 3, quick throw, Snyder has play stopped well short of 1st down, strips ball and gets the recovery.

The holds on Rutgers first series were really obvious and right in front of refs. Not sure how those don't get called. Thought Iowa passed too much in the first half instead of focus on getting the run game.

Heat, love the recaps, keep 'em coming! Great for those that miss games and don't have the time, etc. to review all of this on DVR. James Daniels is a manchild and will be a mainstay at C for the foreseeable future!

Who were the receivers going deep on the play after the big King return?

Smith and Vandeberg both went deep and Kittle came out to the flat and then turned it up field on a wheel route. The only short route we had on that play was Daniels. Pekar was the other TE who gave up the sack.
