Think it will happen?

Don't know if it will happen or not, but love Zachary putting the challenge out there and wanting the matchup. It seems like it's in Happel's court now.

If the do meet I think Happel wins fairly comfortably. Zachary is really talented, but just doesn't know what it takes to wrestle at the level Happel does. It's a different level he'd have to learn to wrestle at.

happel built his legacy over time,if zachery wants what happel has he should have given wrestling the time, it would be a good match, just don't see what is in it for happel.time to move on from high school stuff.

This would be an interesting match. Two very different wrestlers. One is experienced and seasoned from being prepped for HS/college wrestling since a very early age. The other is just straight up an incredible athlete who is figuring out how to wrestle. If they do meet at the N/S meet I hope it isn't a 2:00-1:00-1:00 match.

Based on their quotes it sounds like a go. This would give the event a shot in the arm, it seems to have lost some luster over the years as it's become far more common for the best 1A, 2A, and 3A kids from all areas of the state to meet up some time during the season. I know prevailing wisdom says Happel wins without breaking much of a sweat but IF Zachary gets an early takedown I think he makes it a good match.

I love what I've seen from Zachary and would love for him to be a Hawk, but this is a good point. If Zachary were to beat Happel, it would certainly be a great win, but I wouldn't expect it to put him at #4 nationally at that weight. Guys earn those national rankings through lots of national competition over years. One win over a top guy doesn't necessarily earn you that guy's ranking.

Furthermore, Zachary does seem to be a good bit bigger than Happel -- probably a true 145, where Happel is more of a true 138. So although it would be a great win, Happel would be effectively bumping up a weight class to take him on.

Just a couple of things that occurred to me after reading the article. Would still love to see the match and wish both kids the best -- hopefully as Hawks!

Looking back at the finals matches I would say you are correct.
I don't have any horse in this race, but how could you say that? Has Zachary beaten anyone ranked nationally, or competed in any national tournaments where the results would justify beating someone as accomplished as Happel?

No, because he has trained for football in the off-season he hasn't wrestled anyone nationally ranked or been to Fargo etc. On the flip side, I could ask who has Happel beaten in the past year that you would put ahead of Zachary? He has lost to guys who may be better (Degen, Phillippi, Marko, Moran, Boo Lewallen). Because Zachary has wrestled only the high school schedule we don't yet know if he can go with a guy like Happel. That's why this is much more intriguing than say a Stroker-Thomsen match-up last year where we already knew they were about even.

Zachery has bit of the Montell Marion motivation. Seems elevate his wrestling when the lights get brighter. In a weekend tourney in mid season somewhere Id take Happel. At a conflict in Carver type event Zachary.

I would take Zachary. Just a great athlete and I believe too explosive for Happel. It would be fun to watch though.

I had never seen Zachary before the state tournament. It is not like he is some football star now excelling in a second sport. He has elite wrestling instincts.

Hands down, you are by far the greatest poster on this forum. You should post more often.

With your trailer park boys avatar you should post more often!

I like Sans Souci on this board. No matter how many want to pile on him there is a lot of truth in some of his posts. Some folks just don't want to put our program under a microscope. Nothing to see here.

I'm not kidding. He is my favorite poster.

Ok I wasn't sure the sarcasm or not. I'm not sure hes my favorite as Tarp takes that prize for me but I do enjoy how he comes at this board and plays with them, esp about his kids. I think it hilarious how he pushes buttons. I bet hes a pretty fun guy in real life. Doesn't take too much too serious.

Tarp is definitely up there as well.
