Maddyn Greenway and NIL

It was a node to her parents both going to Iowa, nothing more nothing less.....Kentucky or UCLA is where she going which sucks as feels like Iowa pissed that one away...
Okay then. PLease explain just HOW Iowa "pissed that one away"? We've been recruiting her since she was 12 years old, and still are. I'm going to love sitting back and waiting for you to cobble together some BS how we botched her recruitment. Not opinions either, facts....

Maybe I'm reading into this one moment too much but the last opportunity MG would have had to hang with the team, the coaches, and some high level recruits was the Washington football weekend. MG was at the game with her family so we know she was in town. We had Hays, Fernandez, and Wolickzo in for official visits along with commits Houston and Deal in town with those recruits. From all the pictures we saw, those 5 were seen together. Why wasn't MG invited to hang with them, I don't know the answer, but my feeling was, if we felt good about her chances and she felt good about Iowa, MG would have been building relationships with those girls.

She has an open invite. She's just not coming here. From what I understand, she just wants to pave her own way. Good for Jen and Chad to let her do her own thing with no pressure. Some kids like the Epenesas want to go and love being a part of the family legacy....some kids want to make their own path. Brad from Swarm touches on this topic on his podcast appearance. You would hate to make your kids go to you alma mater if they don't feel like its the place for them.

That's what I mean, it's why you would eliminate them before the final list if you weren't interested at all rather than string it out. A final list isn't about being courteous anymore, you'd cut the cord before that point IMO. She doesn't need to impress her parents by leaving Iowa in the mix, they would already know she isn't coming here. I'm old enough to remember three months ago when Iose Epenesa was going anywhere but Iowa too out of his finals list, but ended up picking Iowa.

She'd be under a microscope at Iowa and Iowa fans can be overwhelming, not in a good way. I'd love to see her at Iowa but can totally understand wanting to go your own way.
The implication here is that Greenway is seriously considering other schools because she fears public scrutiny.

I see no indication whatsoever that Greenway is overly sensative to public scrutiny. That she has kept her recruiting interests mostly private does not contradict this.

Moreover, other finalist fan bases are equally and arguably even more rabid. UCLA, Kentucky, and Duke are traditional BB schools where the fans and media know how to wield a pretty powerful microscope when it comes to their BB programs.

Not buying the microscope argument.

Sounds like an awful lot of meaningless speculation totally void of facts.
That's all it's been! It very well may end up being true and we'll find out soon. It doesn't sound good but we all did the exact same thing with Iose too. People were dead set that he wasn't coming. I'm ready for it to come to a conclusion and hope she chooses us. If not, it is what it is and it'll be the end of my concern in this regard. Who knows, she may end up here later anyway.

Exactly. I firmly believe Chad would've asked her to do exactly this. He, as a parent that's used to media attention, went through the recruiting process, and proud alum...I can't believe he would allow her to string Iowa along if she didn't have any interest at all.

I firmly believe she's at least still interested or she would've not included us as a courtesy. Her not including us would've been fine and message would've been received. I just don't see that family stringing Iowa fans along because they are us!

I think we're still in it.

I think the flaw in your question was, "why wasn't MG invited". Do you actually think if we are still offering her, that she wasn't "invited". All these recruits who visit on their own (in all the sports) hang with the team. Now its possible she did spend time with the team over the weekend and just not during he game, but I assure you she has access to hang with the team should SHE choose to do so.

she should make all the money while she can. any collective or booster money to simply play basketball would be burning money.

How old was she when she said Iowa was her dream school

Iowa has already offered, and she has said that Iowa is her dream school. However, she said that when she was 14. Hopefully she still feels that way and commits in the next 6 months.

I wonder if Bluders age might be used against Iowa by other schools. She is 61 now, will she still be coaching 8 years from now??

Taken from this page:

I don't think that's true as she told schools early on her dream school was Iowa. I'm just confused how we make back to back titles and that made us fall out of her plans.

Yep, poor Iowa. Only 2 back to back NCAA tournament games.

It's about sustaining success and building on recruiting.

We have hit on some major pieces that were maybe not expected. That's awesome...

The problem is the ones that need to be slam dunks (Lewis being in state, Crooks being in state, Greenway being a legacy) need to all hit. They haven't.

Never would've guessed it would be UK that she chose over us. Many other programs, sure, but never did I expect UK to be the team winning her services.
Kenny made an offer she liked over all the others.

Now, let's talk about how we're going to deliver a solid steel-toe grip boot kick to the face of Kenny Brooks and the girls HS recruiting insiders on this message board that said months ago that Greenway was out on Iowa.

I am petty enough to shoot messengers when the source is unavailable, because a message still needs to be delivered regardless.............................

It’s never going to be the case that all in-state or legacy kids are going to pick the Hawks. That’s just not a realistic expectation.

Perhaps she wanted to play for Bluder and when she retired, that changed her mind on Iowa.

I would say that's probably not likely with the timeline of events. Seems the staff was shocked and they had to scramble to keep the current players and '25 commits after Lisa's retirement. At least, that's what they tell us. I think the AJ Guyton tweet confirmed that they had no prior knowledge of Jan's retirement. All the players seemed shocked with no prior knowledge as well.

Timeline of events:

There was a poll back on May 1, '24, "Will Maddyn end up a Hawk?"
~76% said yes she will be a Hawk.

I just never believed we should put much stock in a quote from an 8th grader that is now almost 3 years old. Idk why everyone is so convinced they know what she’s thinking. And hawkbuck is clearly well-connected enough to have been right in the past that I think it’d be dumb to assume that all of a sudden his sources are trash. He heard this at multiple AAU tourneys from someone who has always been right.

I’d love for Iowa to land Greenway and was very disappointed to hear Hawkbuck’s news. We need an elite PG for ‘26. I just wasn’t too shocked bc I never convinced myself that she is a sure thing like *so many* people on this board have. This is now the second piece of seemingly credible news about her that didn’t really paint a good picture. Everyone here who still feels great about her is just wishcasting.

I am simply conveying what I heard from a person who has been "right on" in the past with information as it pertains to the women's basketball team. To be called a "troll" amongst other things is one reason I don't frequent this board like I once did. Outside of a few informed, appreciative posters are a lot of people I just as soon not engage is some of this nonsense they "contribute" to many of these forums.
As for Greenway, I certainly would be happy if she verballed to Iowa and became a Hawkeye. To clarify or expand on my previous post, my intel is that she has, obviously, plenty of interest and that Iowa is no longer the favorite and those, "in the know", would be surprised if she chose Iowa. With that being said, Iowa, according to my intel, feels that is the case and has in a sense "moved on" (while still watching Greenway) to finding other comparable guards for the future. The Greenway family is and continues to be huge Hawkeye fans. The intel I have received says it would be a longshot that Greenway chose Iowa while even a few have said she is not going to Iowa. Now, could she lose other opportunities and eventually turn back to Iowa? Sure, that happens all the time in recruiting. Could she in the end choose Iowa and say "it's the place I always wanted to go?" Sure, again, that could certainly occur. I'm just relaying what I consider people connected to this much closer than I am are saying. (With a pretty accurate history)

This timeline would tell us hawkbuck stated Greenway was not coming on or before May 1, '24.

While I understand that, what is hard is that we have been a legit top 10 team, producing good talent, on TV quite a bit, have good coaching and a rabid fanbase starving for success that has your back.

Negatives: cold weather, could find better academics, NIL.

Yeah, right, those guys...........hire someone to kick them all in the face.

Still possible players don't want to always be compared to, or have to live up to the fan's love affair with Caitlin Clark. We will never know if that could be true, and it could always be something non-basketball and mundane.

Doesn't matter. Iowa will get players-- and they will beat Kentucky sometime along the way.
