This feels so much like 2012/13

First, there are differences. But I'm just going to list the similarities here, that I can think of:

1) Five freshmen on that team, one senior. The freshmen included three guys with many starts on the season. This year we have five true freshmen and sort of one senior in Jok, and Jones. Close though, similar.

2) We finished hot that year, winning six of our last nine regular season games. If we beat Penn State we're talking a six and three finish this year.

3) We won our first BTT game that year, vs. Northwestern. That was a Thursday game.

Going to stop there. This is a different team. That BTT couldn't happen again, right? I mean, I haven't watched a good team fight all season long against the odds, only to have it's hopes and dreams yanked out from under it by a stupid, cheating, ref. Not again, right? I mean, I can't be the only one who would suffer REAL March Madness and launch an attack on the Big Ten office, right?

help...help...flashbacks...

I thought this team was like 2011-2012 team and posted on that earlier this season (analogizing Jok to Gates). Jok has been great this season, injury aside. But this team is far ahead of that team and my expectations. More like 2012-2013 team. Officiating in the BTT cost us the tourney that year. This year it may be the terrible officiating in the Minnesota game.

Two weeks ago I thought we had zero chance of making the NCAA field without winning the BIG tournament. Last Sunday I thought we needed to win out the season and get to the BIG tournament finals to get in. Today we have a chance to get in by beating PSU and winning at least one, but preferably two tournament games. The team has improved so much since the terrible loss to Omaha that our hopes are still alive. I can't wait to see how the next week unfolds.

I have never been so damn angry as I was watching that fiasco. That was a crime. Specifically: grand theft.
