This is Iowa's Best 3 point shooting team in 28 years!

I would also add that this team has developed an uncanny knack for timely shot making. In years past we have held our breath only to see shots clank off the rim. This year it seems guys are stepping up at critical junctures with big shots, even if they haven't been shooting well all game. Clemmons, Baer, Woodbury and Uhl all made baskets at critical junctures in the game when momentum was slipping. I am amazed that Jok can sit for extended periods, check back in the game and within seconds run off a pick and knock a shot down.

We shoot well, rebound well, share the ball and play good defense. However, what has impressed me most is that we take care of the basketball. FIVE turnovers in the last three halves of basketball, including a mere one in the 2nd half against MSU when they were turning up the heat big time and none in the 2nd half against Michigan. When you are solid in all areas you are a tough out.

I agree with this. It just seem like, when they make a basket to get within striking distance, we can't wait to get the ball down the court and answer.

Turnovers...the numbers are beyond ridiculous...

Iowa was 11-20 (55%) from 3 today; crazy!!!

from the 2 point shot, Iowa was 16-34 (47%)

overall, Iowa was 27-54 (50%)

The 3 point shot is the great equalizer in college basketball and is even more important now with the 30 second clock. It is why guys like Jok and Ellingson got a scholarship. The great thing about 3 point shooting is that the more shooters you have, the better looks they get. Kudos to Fran for engineering this squad.

Jok gets a scholarship for many many reasons besides his 3 point shooting.

This describes an important part of the though-ness that Izzo talked about after the second win. Hitting clutch shots is one leg of the stool. In the past few years Iowa has ben tough in a lot of ways but the clutch shot thing lagged somewhat. The Hawks are scoring with guys that are hard to match up with. Add it all up and they are a very good team.

The team's average of 41 percent from 3-point range is second-best in school history, per Dochtermann of the Gazette

Also, in league-only action, Iowa is shooting 43.7 percent.

Iowa shot just 33.3 percent from 3-point range last year. Iowa guard Anthony Clemmons led the Hawkeyes last year at 37.3 percent. This year Iowa has five key players shooting at least 39 percent.

Last year Iowa was heavy in the post with Aaron White at power forward and a talented tandem of Woodbury and Gabe Olaseni at center. Iowa averaged about 17 3-point attempts a game last year. This year, the Hawkeyes put up 22.6. Iowa makes about 9.3 3-pointers a night this year, while last year it was 5.6.

Iowas 3-point percentage (.410) is its best in a season since the 1987-88 season (41.5 percent). #Hawkeyes

I often think that as much as we talk about defense, controlling the tempo, etc. in a lot of ways it just comes down to making the damn shots. Even the best Iowa teams I've watched - save maybe the 69/79 team - I don't think I've seen one that makes the big shots as well as this one.
