Iowa just doesn’t have talent or athleticism. Dix and maybe Traore and Thelwell off the bench are about the only Iowa players I would want on the team. The rest are PWO or Missouri Valley talent.

Payton Sandfort clearly has the McCaffrey union card. It doesn’t matter how many ill-advised shots he chucks up, how soft he is on defense, or how little he cares about boxing out and rebounding, his minutes are never in doubt. Harding belongs at Kirkwood; Mulvey is a joke; Dembele has Adam Woodbury athleticism, and the other Sandfort is a carbon copy of his brother.

Wisconsin is pretty much what they always are—scrappy and well coached. No one on the floor really impresses you too much, Tonje is decent, they just have a bunch of guys who can shoot 3s and play tough defense. Generally, that’s a recipe for winning a lot of games.

Anyway, I watched today and it’s pretty much what I expected. Even if Iowa pulls this game out of their ass, Fran ball needs to go. Bring in a coach who stops scouring the sales counters of J Crew and the Pottery Barn for recruits. This is college basketball, not a swim meet.

This is a joke.

The Sandforts look like prepubescents out there chucking up garbage shots while dreaming they’re Steph Curry.

If this isn’t a college swim team, this is a 2A Iowa high school team with a couple foreign exchange students from Africa. It’s just absolute shit basketball.
Add in 15 years of never teaching how to close out on a three point shooter. LoL. 15 years of this shiat.

Traore looks like the only dude who even belongs. Despite recruiting the swim team....there must be no strength and conditioning program. Guys look skinnier the longer they are here

Nice of you to join us. This the first game you’ve watched since 2021? It’s been garbage basketball since then. Keegan carried the team in 2022.
No. I watched some of the Iowa State and Indiana games this season.

I’m staying inside sick today so I am actually watching sports all day. Unfortunate, because it’s sunny and 70 today in my neck of the woods.

The money is out there. The fan interest just isn’t there anymore for basketball. Look where Iowa ranks in NIL for football.

Brad alluded to this in the recent podcast he did for HawkCast (the podcast for this site). He noted that men’s basketball donations were down, and even took the blame a bit. But reading between the lines, as I am prone to do, it seems like the blame lies elsewhere.

The money is NOT out there. Latest podcast the Swarm is up to 3000 members, up 1000 this past year. He wanted 10000 to match other schools. Some schools have 2-3 clubs. That's the joke on Iowa. Hawk fans are cheap I guess.

Can anyone else remember one of Iowa's premier shooters being in a season long slump? I would bet that Payton thinks he will come out of it, but it is just getting worse. It's the airballs every game that get me. I wasn't a great shooter, but at least I could always hit the frickin' rim! Every game is costing him $.

The real stunner is someone writing four paragraphs about this team after witnessing the first twenty games of this shitshow of a season.

Don't we soon get all the network TV money that can be spread around to the players?

Yep. If this is accurate, 16th nationally. Should be able to compete.

What percentage of that goes towards basketball vs football and other sports?

If it’s anything like the general athletic budget, that’s a little over 6%. Six percent to your only sports program besides football that’s profitable.

With college sports being a business, the last guy I want in charge is an old dude that doesn't understand the portal, has problem recruiting/keeping Black athletes, doesn't understand NIL, roster management, or basketball X and O's and on top of it is mailing it in for a full buyout so he can hang out with Jack at Butler.

It's going to be expensive to get rid of this guy and be able to pay the next guy and fund NIL, but please pull the plug this spring. It will be even worse next year if Fran is still around. The guy is not honorable enough to call it quits on his own and Barta gave him too big of an extension/guaranteed money in 2021.

Several universities are in the same boat as Iowa when it comes to NIL and fans being "cheap". I don't blame fans for not donating. I personally won't donate outside of buying some Swarm beer a few times a year. I've got more important matters in my life then paying young adults to play a sport that really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. Its just a sport.

Agree it’s time for a change. But we also need more NIL money. Hearing Brad talk makes it sound like we are in the bottom of B10 in terms of basketball support.
Swarm allocates 80% football 10% each to Men's and Woman's BB , More People are checking the sport they want to donate to, I always give to football only Myself . I would rather donate cash to the Wagner PMC than give Fran a penny , that is the problem, I am not a one off in this belief for donating, Fran should have been fired Years ago Fans are having their say with game attendance and Swarm donations and if Beth is too donkey punched to read the room and fire the Guy then She should be the next shown the door right after that grifter Fran is fired by anyone at Iowa who is not a mental midget in the Athletic Department

80% , 10% 10% is the breakdown for football and each BB Team if not specified , More People ( like Me ) specify football only and Women's BB

1 time donations are not counted toward the 3000 , Myself a few times a Year i throw a single payment at football , that way i control when funds go out and that they all go towards football

I hear yah, no issues from me.

I don't have the answers.

Reality is hard for some on here.

I will have to do some research on ISU funds for basketball.

He wasn’t destined for anything but Latvia anyways.
