I'm going to start by saying that I am not a fan of protective tariffs personally. I agree with the article that they just lower everyone's standard of living.
That being said, protective tariffs are nothing new. They were even a big reason for the Civil War. So, what Trump is planning on doing is really nothing new. I can't see a 45% tax, and it's stuff like this that makes me think he does a lot more pandering than most of his hardcore supporters do. I don't agree with it, but I don't think he's all that serious about it either. Besides, he would need support from Congress to pass this if I'm not mistaken. What say you?
