This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

It’s been said a million times but the enormity of those losses just has me shaking my head at the disastrously gross miscalculations made leading up to the war.
I said early on (and our favorite Russianphile poster scoffed at it) that this for sure is one of the top 10 military miscalculations and defeats in world history. Arguably currently the second greatest army in world going in, with the largest land empire, undone by a country the size of Texas and not considered even in top 25 militaries. And consequence will undo the empire.

Now we’re finally getting into Bond villain worthy plots.

Iowa is the ‘secondary ash zone’:

Bypass NORAD, Offutt AFB, Hill AFB, Warren AFB and our silo fields to blow up Yellowstone. Solid plan.

It certainly is one of the greatest intelligence failures. And not just the Russians. There were weren’t a lot of people to be found that gave ukraine a chance. Russia doubled and tripled down on it miscalculations, and we did the same but on correct calculations.

Dang. Between war time casualties and massive outflow of young folks, Russia is losing the next generation…
They will be decades in recovery, unless they totally prostrate to China.

Have you seen the age of some of the chum they’re throwing in the water? They’ve already moved on from having a millenial generation, they’ve all either moved or are part of the casualty count

Part of their program to trim unfunded obligations…

Yep. “… and massive outflow…”
The young ones could see the coming storm, or at least had a sense of self preservation..

Biggest part was the rot and theft of their own military that Putler and FSS had no clue of. They believed they had all this fire power and tech and strength and had been completely conned for decades about where the money went. None of the upper military had guts to tell them.

Is the head guy still the “Butcher of Syria (?)” or some such? Pootie has cleaned house multiple times.

A couple of lead guys at work have interesting insight into the Russian invasion.
The Bulgarian is concerned that Serbia and/or Albania are gonna make some moves that will start another Balkan conflagration. He is not in favor of Bulgarian military aid to the Ukrainians as he continues to think they are corrupt. He also continues to believe that Ukraine cannot best the Orcs.
The guy with the Macedonian wife (hottie, but I have no pics), also worries that another Balkan blowup is being stirred up by Russian leaning folks in the region. He casts a wary eye at the Turks who may well gain some influence across the region.

That was my reaction. There is reporting that 300,000 young men have fled. Maybe it’s more, maybe it’s 200,000? Whatever it is they are losing a lot of young men with skills. A lot of the dead soldiers were drunks and dopes. The clever ones made it to Turkey, Georgia,…

probably for centuries to come, all the contests of that Aceldama the European world, will be contests of inveterate power, and emerging right.

Aceldama

noun
1. the place near Jerusalem purchased with the bribe Judas took for betraying Jesus. Acts 1:18, 19.
2. any place of slaughter and bloodshed.

Yep. Religion has a way of entering the fray.

More than once I’ve thought about how I’d do, at my age, if I were a rural Russian and forced into service, with my bad knees and and tendency to get cold easily.

After only a couple of days in a frozen trench I‘d definitely lead/support a coup to shoot my commander and follow a Ukrainian drone back over the front line to surrender
