This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

So...Germany is officially off the shit list? :)

No, let's keep the heat on them so they don't go wobbly. How fast will they get there is critical. I hope people in Germany are waking up like people in the Baltics and the Southern European NATO nations as to the fact that Russia is not going to stop at Ukraine.

The missile has a range of approximately 560 km (300 nmi; 350 mi). It is powered by a turbojet at Mach 0.8 and can be carried by the now retired RAF Tornado GR4, Italian Tornado IDS, Saab Gripen, Dassault Mirage 2000 and Dassault Rafale aircraft.

👀
Yummy. A big warhead with the range to hit Sevastopol, and it's a fire and forget missile. Now, which of these platforms will they be fired from, and how soon until Ukraine gets them.

This is going to be a lot messier than what Putin's normal death would have been without this Ukraine episode,... I can picture a collapse of the whole of Russian society, dissolution of member states, the expansion of organized crime, and incursions by outside nations attempting to capitalize on the situation
They'd all nuke each other.

Win-win.

If you comb through the sanctions lists we've left a lot of people off, and some on the lists can be moved off rapidly. If there is a change of leadership it will be because of the war, and whoever is left standing will be ready to talk about saving the Russian economy. I appreciate your repeated concerns about loose nukes, but nations like to hold onto them. We've done pretty well at this, and, China will be a muscular partner for once. They do not want nukes sloshing around the world.

I agree…but I think folks thinking Putin falling from power will be a repeat of the fall of the Soviet Union are deluding themselves. I’m thinking it’ll be much more chaotic but we’ll see.

Russia may have lost up to half of its operational tank fleet in Ukraine, monitoring group says

CNN —
Russia has potentially lost up to half of all its operational tank fleet since the start of the Ukraine war, according to information collected by a monitoring group, as its military struggles to meet the goals of Vladimir Putin’s invasion.

Oryx, an open source intelligence website, has been collecting visual evidence of military equipment losses in Ukraine since Russia’s invasion began on February 24, 2022.

The group said this week it has verified 1,000 distinct Russian tank losses in the war. It said a further 544 Russian tanks had been captured by Ukrainian forces, 79 damaged and 65 abandoned.

That toll does not include losses Oryx has not been able to visually confirm, said Jakub Janovsky, a military analyst who contributes to the Oryx blog. He estimated the actual toll could be nearer 2,000 tanks.

“Russia started the war with around 3,000 operational tanks … so there is a good chance that Russia has lost one half of (its) usable tanks” Janovsky said.

Huge disparity in numbers here.

Kyiv independent reports 3255 MBT losses. Oryx reports 1,000+

That's assuming Russia doesn't fragment....I'm thinking if the autocrat get's tossed there's a real possibility the Russian federation breaks up....

Another wild card that didn't exist when the Soviet Union collapsed....is there's a friggin mercenary Army that one of the Oligarchs controls. I just think we're looking a real possibility of mayhem when Putin falls....and I think he will....eventually.

I'm thinking the Kyiv Independent might be a tad biased in their reporting :)

If the Russians actually lost that many tanks I don't think there'd be much talk of a Russian offensive.
They are simply using the official numbers given to them by the Ukraine government. I think the equipment numbers are likely more accurate than troops. They had to break into storage and are using 50- 70 year old tanks.

Pretty hard to get an accurate read on the actual situation in this war.

It's obvious the Russians have suffered horrific losses....to what degree? Who really knows except the folks that have hard intel....and I don't think the public is getting that. (for pretty good reasons)

It'll be interesting to see post war.....what the actual casualty figures were.

I was going to say the same thing. In reality, the troop number is probably actually understated if you include wounded. But, perhaps the equipment is overstated if they include badly damaged, but not destroyed equipment. Who knows though.
