This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

A Ukrainian drone attacked an oil depot in Russia's Belgorod Oblast on the morning of 5 March, setting three oil storage tanks on fire. One Ukrainian intelligence source says it was an operation by Defence Intelligence of Ukraine.

Source: Vyacheslav Gladkov, Governor of Belgorod Oblast; Mash and 112 Russian Telegram channels; Roman Starovoit, Governor of Kursk Oblast; Kremlin-aligned news agency RIA Novosti, citing Russian emergency services and the Russian Emergencies Ministry; Ukrainska Pravda (UP) citing a source in Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU)

Quote from Gladkov: "There is an emergency in Gubkinsky district. After an explosion, a fire was reported at an infrastructure facility. There are no casualties. Operational and emergency services are working at the scene."

Details: Russian Telegram channels claimed that a drone attacked the Belgorodnefteprodukt oil depot in the village of Dolgoye.

Mash stated that the attack took place at 08:50, and two oil storage tanks are currently on fire at the oil storage depot. 112 stated that one tank was on fire. Both Telegram channels reported that the fire is ongoing.

In addition, Roman Starovoyt, Governor of Kursk Oblast, said that there was a fire and power outage as a result of an attack on Glushkovo railway station. He said that the fire had already been extinguished. Power lines were damaged. He added that as a result of the attack, Glushkovo station and the village of Kulbaki had been left without electricity.

Update: RIA Novosti, citing Russian emergency services, adds that three storage tanks at the oil depot near Belgorod are on fire. At the same time, the agency notes that the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations confirmed damage to one tank. They claim that there is no threat of the fire spreading.

One of UP’s sources in the intelligence service confirmed the damage and said that the attack on the oil depot was an operation by Defence Intelligence of Ukraine. The oil depot is used for military purposes.

Background:

The last time the facility was attacked, according to Telegram channels, was on 15 February.

If the Russians aren't deploying T-14 because they are worried about "reputational damage"......they aren't in as dire straights as we'd hope.

Good sign? That's a stretch.

If Russia is holding back their best MBT I find that a bit strange to say the least.
Hahaha. Maybe read it again closely. They never really got it up in running and ready for warfare. It’s not their “best” when they don’t really have any capable of performing in combat or able to mass produce. Like a lot of Russian weaponry, this tank is smoke and mirrors. Yet you as you have been doing since February of 2022 somehow view this as a positive for Russian. Truly remarkable.

Fair enough. There's a good chance it's garbage.

To your second point. I haven't been an advocate for Russia on this board. If that's your take so be it but it's false.

All the drone stuff we see on land, definitely game changing for how we go about warfare in the classical sense, but these water drones… I can’t help but think these are the biggest story so far in the evolution of warfare from this conflict.
These ships are hugely expensive compared to the weapons that are taking them down. If you’re somebody like Iran a fleet of these make choking off the Straits of Hormuz even easier.

This is how you bump a thread, with an excellent story from the AP about Ukraine's seaborne drones. Good information about two new drones they are deploying, although I don't know if the specs listed are accurate. I think the Ukrainians might be hedging a little. $250,000 apiece for each unit, which is a nice trade off for a Russian ship costing hundreds of millions of dollars, or eleventy billion rubles.

We all know that Trump could shoot someone in Times Square and....well now Putin can invade a country and kill thousands of people and "oh well...."

Truly shows the power of modern propaganda (and how support has shifted so much in the past 18 months).

She should be put on the next plane to Moscow. I'll pay the airfare.

I feel like there should be one of those Hitler parody clips where he is ordering various ships in the Black Sea to launch attacks, but the undertone is it’s Putin ordering the Moskva, or all the other sunken Russian ships into action.

Germans at it again?
I know the secret discussion was an embarrassment for Germany but I love knowing that they are definitely helping with the planning.
Now I assume it was that action off of the coast and perhaps an aerial attack on the town that got up our hopes for a bridge strike.
At least the Russians aren't claiming to have thwarted another attempt on the bridge.

HUR Chief Budanov Says Seems Navalny Died of Detached Blood Clot

Ukraine's intelligence says cause of Russian oppositionist's death aligns with initial assertions made by Kremlin.

That happened after months of confinement in a terrible prison in Siberia…

It’s kind of like chaining up an 8 year old dog in the back yard and feeding him poorly and saying it died of natural causes when it’s heart goes out.
