This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

Article 6 is clear on the jurisdiction of the NATO agreement:

For the purpose of Article 5, an armed attack on one or more of the Parties is deemed to include an armed attack:

  • on the territory of any of the Parties in Europe or North America, on the Algerian Departments of France 2, on the territory of Turkey or on the Islands under the jurisdiction of any of the Parties in the North Atlantic area north of the Tropic of Cancer;
  • on the forces, vessels, or aircraft of any of the Parties, when in or over these territories or any other area in Europe in which occupation forces of any of the Parties were stationed on the date when the Treaty entered into force or the Mediterranean Sea or the North Atlantic area north of the Tropic of Cancer.
With trump as President I bet the US would do nothing. Look at how Congress has rolled over for him and his clown appointments.

"#Ukraine The post Soviet countries have a justified fear of Russia. Russia still occupies 15% of modern day Finland it stole in 1940. R took part of Georgia in 2008. The Baltics & others are safer within NATO, which had no plans to invade Russia. Even Sweden & Finland joined NATO"

"It's Ukraine who pays." (I think.)

By the language of the treaty, NATO members who put their troops in other countries don't have an article 5 trigger if they're attacked in those other countries.

Ukraine isn't planning to give back the portions of Poland seized by the Soviets after WW2 either.

The only bet I'd make on Europe's map is that it will be different in 100 years.

The thing I still don’t get is Russia’s lack of air superiority. They should have been able to control the skies from day 1. It’s like Ukraine sinking the submarine and warships without a functioning navy. So I will also say their lack of ability to control the sea. And I suppose to round it out land too.
It is indeed mind bottling. How can the orcs not overwhelm the smaller adversary?

I am coming here just to post that I'm really disappointed, but not surprised, by today. If Europe goes on to fund Ukraine and attack Russia, Trump still wins because he has said the US is doing too much and others too little.

I just want Russia gone. I felt like the window of opportunity was closing and we didn't get it done with Biden for fear of escalation. I just don't want bullies to win.
