This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

A Russian airstrike against a maternity hospital earlier. Also Russian forces not protecting/avoiding fighting near the humanitarian corridors. (watching CNN)

Putin needs to die. That's cowardice and cruelty at their worst and most disgusting form.

Since we don't really get information about Ukrainian military losses, how bad do you think it has been from their side?

Obviously their performance has been something for the history books, but I'd like to get some idea about rate of loss.
I will say this, given the footage of buildings being blown to shit in so many civilian areas, I am rather shocked by the lack of reported civilian casualties at this point. Case in point is the children's/maternity hospital that was hit yesterday - I thought I heard that at least as of last night, there were no reported deaths from that strike. Maybe there are similar light losses for the combatants?

Hella accurate strikes here with interesting discussion in the comments
From the comments:

That sure as hell ain't artillery, it's either drone strikes or javelins. Took those Russians long enough to pop smoke, that tells me they aren't exactly professionals. Would almost feel sorry for them if I didn't see the pictures from the bombed hospital yesterday.

One of the MSNBC Defense Dept analysts returned from Poland where he had seen a load of Javelins and Stingers being readied to cross the border to Ukraine. He said a C17 was leaving and thought it may have just delivered that load. What he said next really impressed me-he said someone at the airfield told him that they were averaging 17 wide body transport flights in each day! Made me feel better that so many supplies from the West are being poured into Ukraine.
This is why I truly believe that NATO/US are doing more for Ukraine than what is being made public. The less support Russia thinks Ukraine is getting the better.

Civilians were certainly there. Lots of photos of injured pregnant women.

I imagine there are a lot of unreported deaths. They can’t properly search for people when they actively under attack.
I understand that, which is why I referred to "reported civilian casualties." Certainly there are many unreported deaths, I was just stating I was surprised that there have not been more reported deaths.

Here's a problem I'd like to see definitively resolved...

The claim is that the hospital had been abandoned and was being used as a military staging area. The young lady in the pics may or may not be blogger/model Marianna Podgurskaya. She's shown in multiple pics. She's definitely pregnant and could have been at the hospital but it's certainly not inconceivable that it could be a staged event to elicit western action. It would be kind of dumb to use someone who is apparently well known so that makes me skeptical that it would be staged but I'm hoping this is addressed somewhere.

Not saying he isn't at least somewhat sincere, but I'm thinkg a big part of this is his trying to leverage some leniency; "Please don't take all my money and possessions, America/NATO allies!"
He may also be one of the oligarchs who serves as a repsoitory for Putin's wealth...apparently, that's what many of them are. They serve to launder Putin's stolen money in return for a cut and a lavish lifestyle. Be fun if Nevzlin IS one of those guys and he's trying to get away with Putin's $$.

I mean, worse frauds have been foisted upon the American public:

The Nayirah testimony was false testimony given before the United States Congressional Human Rights Caucus on October 10, 1990, by a 15-year-old girl who was publicly identified at the time by her first name, Nayirah. The testimony was widely publicized, and was cited numerous times by United States senators and President George H. W. Bush in their rationale to support Kuwait in the Gulf War.
In 1992, it was revealed that Nayirah's last name was Al-Ṣabaḥ and that she was the daughter of Saud Al-Sabah, the Kuwaiti ambassador to the United States. Furthermore, it was revealed that her testimony was organized as part of the Citizens for a Free Kuwait public relations campaign, which was run by the American public relations firm Hill & Knowlton for the Kuwaiti government. Following this, al-Sabah's testimony has come to be regarded as a classic example of modern atrocity propaganda.

So you are saying Iraq did not invade Kuwait? Either way please try to stay on topic. It is 2022 and this is a thread for Ukraine war news - not your vendetta against US policies from a prior generation. I turn 50 this year and was not old enough to vote for Bush senior.

How, exactly, is this worse? But, yes, this is the kind of thing that led me to post my OP. Do you have anything relevant to say about THAT?

Well...yeah...they did but they did it humanely, you know.

While not trying to downplay the disaster in Ukraine, I have to believe there is some propaganda from the West, as well.

I think it has to be extremely difficult to get casualty numbers correct given the chaos. And overstating Russian losses can also be used to motivate the Ukranian fighters.

I never believed what we were told during Viet Nam, especially the Viet Cong losses.

It’s pretty easy to verify, and I doubt that they turned that city block into a smoldering crater for a photo op. The Russians did that.

actually, in terms of the west, I read that we estimate Russian losses at around 5K troops, while Ukraine had them over 11K a day or two ago.
