This should make sure Josh Shapiro is the clear and immediate Democratic front runner for 2028

I'm only semi-joking. This is so, so good on multiple levels. And THIS, not Waltz mincing around and making fun of his white guy-ness like a sitcom dad, is appealing to regular dudes.

There is plenty of policy that Dems need to realign on, but this is absolutely the vibe they need...

(I do not think picking Waltz over Shapiro changed the outcome)

For all the screaming and wailing about anti-semitism by Republicans this past year, just wait for what they will do if the Dems nominate a Jew for the presidency.

Maybe I’m not a “regular dude.” I read this and think PETA is being stupid, and Shapiro should’ve just ignored it.

I didn’t think “F ya! You tell ‘em” or pump my fist. Nothing about this exchange appeals to me whatsoever.

I don't think this appeals to "regular dudes" as much as you may think.

Just seems like a little silly online fun.

Yeah, I mean I think that's the same thing basically. I don't even really mean dudes...just regular people. But when is the last time a Democrat put a fringe leftist group in their place? And with a fairly witty response that draws a comparison between his bookish image and Texas bravura. It's been so missing.

Meanwhile at the DNC chair debate...

Haha, yes, he should have taken the high road against PETA and ignored them.

LOL it is impossible for some people to learn any lessons at all, as it implies that something they supported in the past may not be perfect.

The world's biggest asshole just largely rode his belligerence to the popular vote, while the democrats cratered their support among young males, went upside down on the Latino male vote...and nobody can admit that maybe the Democrats have a beta male problem?

Hell, I don't care it's not my party LOL...have at it and keep on keeping on with what you've been doing and locking arms with drag queens...working so awesome!

they should stop fukin w phil, stupid tradition. we should be beyond theatrics like this. i still like shapiro tho

You seem very insecure. Mincing around, beta males, drag queens.

Also, who did you vote for?

Agree, that is the vibe they need.

Still like Polis from Colorado. Another jew, gay to boot, but doesn't take himself too seriously and isn't far left.

Jokes about being a gay jew

LOL, yes I'm so insecure haha. If you only knew 🤣

I didn't vote for president because Trump is trash, but I skew conservative.

I posted something positive about about a Democrat, and because I code Republican on here everyone is like "no it's bad."

But here's the truth...this is good. People will like it. If Shapiro keeps this vibe he will be in good shape.

No, I like Polis, but he will not win nationally.

There are too many people in this country grossed out by gay people.

Oh, for me not being a Democrat, Polis is absolutely my #1 Democrat.

He should absolutely be the future face of the party in my opinion. I guess it's faded too much to matter, but he was pretty great on COVID as well. He's definitely got a feel for where Democrats should position themselves.

Well, implying Walz has feminine atttributes and mentioning beta males and drag queens led me to believe those were very important issues to you.

I like Shapiro. I just don’t get jazzed about Twitter spats. Apparently that appeals to some.

I don't think I agree. To me he CLEARLY would appeal to more moderate or right leaning voters with his vibes, competence and record, than he would turn off otherwise left-leaning voters with his gayness. We are no longer in an era where anyone culturally or religiously conservative is even in a little play for Dems. This isn't like religious people maybe voting for Jimmy Carter because of his faith. Those days are gone.

HOWEVER, in a close election, I could see it being a problem on the margins and maybe not the way to shore up the slipping Black and Latino vote. Maybe turning that trend is important enough to not take a chance.

I dunno, I tend to be a bit more optimistic. It feels like being gay has become really normalized. Especially guys like him... not the flamboyant type.

The religious anti-gay sorts wouldn't go democrat anyway. So I guess it would have to matter enough to swing voters.

My guess is that his personality and reasonableness would outshine any gay drawbacks.

I think Polis would do well in urban areas. Rural America, with all the ignorance? Not so much.

HAHA, yes the Democrats DEFINITELY don't have a problem appealing to male voters. Not at all. Young men were jazzed for Mr. Football Coach Waltz, just like Dems thought they would be.

I don't give a shit if Democrats ever win again LOL. But a terrible non-competitive Democratic opposition is terrible for this country, and terrible for reasonable republicans.
But as always,

I mean we got Obama, black guy, over a decade ago, and he won easily. And Trump, who is maniac and not assumed to be electable for a while, got elected twice.

We seem to be living in age where charisma and likeability rein supreme while old rules of electability are falling by the wayside.

How would Pete Buttigieg do?

I personally think Pete is pretty good, and he's about half way between Biden/Harris and Shapiro or Polis in appeal. I think he'd do better than Harris or that part of the party, but he has nowhere near the resume as Shapiro or Polis, and nothing of note from his role as Transportation Secretary other than the stink of Biden. He should have done TV the last four years.

I think Pete is on the better side of Dems, but he has nothing on Polis or Shapiro to make him a more attractive candidate.

Shapiro is one of the Dems weaker options for 2028 (Kamala and Newsome are the only ones weaker imo).

If they fall for the "I'll vote for a moderate Democrat" banana in the tailpipe for the third time in four elections then they should just close up shop.

Right. Moderate alone isn't enough. Not even about being moderate. Just put some distance between yourself and the activist left.

Candidate him/herself needs to be good, needs to have some sparkle. This analytical -- 'meets all our criteria and looks great on paper' -- approach is really problematic.
