This team is fun to watch!

Playing fast without playing d is garbage basketball. They will be fun to watch when they buy into playing d.

I saw a lot of flashes for us to ultimately be awesome on offense. I saw little (just Baer) to make me think we can defend anyone.

Less than stellar defense is a byproduct of fast pace basketball. Seton Hall is a very very good basketball team, better than us at this point. But, I had so much fun watching our team last night. We will get better and better. For those trashing our point guards - you know nothing about basketball. Bot first year starters playing in a fast pace basketball - they should be making mistakes, they are human. Bohannon is going to be a first class point guard. Williams will settle down and be unguardable.
The future is very bright for Iowa basketball. Fran will continue signing better and better players, when they see what Cook, as a freshman, is doing at Iowa.

How exciting was it that Cook's first 5 points were a mid-range jumper and a 3! Followed by being almost unstoppable in the post, he had both of their bigs in foul trouble.

I think once Williams gets a little more aggressive taking it to the rim he will be tough to stop, he's faster than he looks initially.

I'd like to see Baer shoot a little more. There was a sequence where both teams missed several shots in a row and Baer bricked an open shot from the elbow and then only took 1-2 more shots the rest of the game, one was a 3 that he drained.

I'd also like to see Wagner and Pemsl play a little more, if Cook continues to score 20+ though that will limit opportunities for those guys some.

I don't see what is so fun to watch when the other team is getting easy layups and wide open looks EVERY TIME down the floor...

We have the stupidest fan base in the country. Everyone shows up to check out the team for the first time (most of which did not bother to come in person to really help this team which needed it) and have no idea who they are playing nor the quality of the opponent. Then rips this group that consists of 1 senior and 2 juniors with everyone else playing their first game or there first time as a major contributor. Yes D is and will be an issue that will take some game experience to figure out. Glad you geniuses tuned in to help out.

I agree that they were fun to watch. On offense.
I also agree that they were terrible on defense.
They are a borderline team to make the NCAA tourney. I thought they would more likely be an NIT qualifier this year. Last night did nothing to change that.
I'm looking forward to watching the development over the rest of the season.
Hope more fans start coming to games. A half empty CHA last night was disappointing.

Defense was the glaring issue. There was ZERO team defense in this game by either team. Both teams were okay with allowing their guys to get to the paint and the other guys were content with letting them dump it off or shoot a lay-up.

Iowa is young and it showed. The glaring issue to me was UHL & JOK our two most veteran players did not play a lick of defense. They were horrible and SH guards made them look like they were standing still.

Offensively I thought we looked good, Kind of rushed it at times and forced it. I would like to see the PGs slow it down and run something instead of trying to force up a wild contested shot.

I didn't expect to win this game (reminded me IA vs Marquette last year) Veteran team vs a young team. I thought Iowa handled themselves very well and as the year goes along they will improve.

Yeah, the defense didn't play well but like others have said- game one against a good team. We are young and the Hawks will have some growing pains. That was painfully obvious on defense and, sure, bad turnovers on offense.

However, the upside is there! Cook was a dominant force down low. We have multiple guys that can shoot all over. This team caused a ton of turnovers against a veteran team. If there was a stat for assists on steals I think Baer would have had 5ish.

There are many other positives but we all just need to be patient. Iowa will win some games we aren't supposed to and lose games we should win. Enjoy the ride.

This is a huge issue, and I thought the stands would be full last night. Unfortunately scheduling a 8:00 game on a weekday is always going to be tough to fill. This is a tv issue, not a fan issue. Anyone who has young kids or has to work early the next morning has to make a decision. I live in coralville and I did not make it home until 11.

Although there is some truth to this it's still an excuse. We are talking a late night one night with the end of the week the next day. How soft are we as a society?

I've got a nearly 5 year old son and a 1 year old daughter. My son is getting to that age where I should be able to get him excited for Iowa bball. But he's in bed asleep well before a 8:00 tip off. If it was a 7:00 tip off on a weekday I could keep him up for probably the first 20-30 minutes of the game. On a weekend maybe even the first half. But I'm not crazy enough to keep him up for an 8:00 game. And that's just to watch on TV. There's no way I'd try to take him to a game that starts at 8 as you'd just end up with empty seats halfway through when I'd have to take him home from him falling asleep.

The old 7:00 tip offs were at the perfect time. You had enough time to get home from work, grab some supper, and get to the game. Plus the game was over a little after 9 and you were definitely out of the parking lot and on your way home before 10. Now you either have the late games where you push that back by an hour, or you have the early games where it is hard to get to the arena by 6 for people with jobs, and forget trying to eat supper beforehand.

I don't owe the UofI or Iowa basketball anything. I do owe it to my son to spend time with him and make sure he gets to sleep at a reasonable time. So if you don't have kids that prevent you from going to late games, that great. But I do know that many of the people between the ages of 30-45 have young kids that they have to take care of.

I love Iowa basketball, but I plan my life and my activities around my family, not Iowa Basketball. I go to Iowa games for entertainment and nothing more. The games are scheduled so that the networks can make more money instead of at a time that makes for good entertainment. I am not going to sacrifice other things in my life for a random non-conference game that has little to no bearing on whether Iowa makes the NCAA tourney.

Fun to watch but not winning basketball. Must admit that i enjoyed the uni - ariz state game more. Excellent fundamentals and its amazing what jacobsen can get out of these small town iowa kids

This is about as spot on as you get......exactly how I saw the game play out. My congratulations sir on a well thought out, intelligent post. Whats it doing on this message board? lol
