More interested in thinking about the Hawkeyes than the super bowl so I am going to ramble a bit.
This team has been as enjoyable to watch as any Iowa team I have watched in maybe forever. 10-1 in conference is ridiculous and what's more ridiculous is 9 of them have been by double digits and the other was a 19 point comeback on the road to win going away. I can actually watch this team without living and dying with each possession and waiting for the long dry spell of not hitting a shot to happen. Frans teams the last five years were good but it was so hard to sit back and enjoy because the margin of winning and losing was so slim and we would be forever on the bubble. Clearly this was better than the Lick era, most of the Alford and similar to a lot of the Dr. Tom era but still uber stressful.

Specifically comparing this team to the last two years it is so much better. Last years team was often called "Aaron Whites" team. I give him a ton of credit for leading iowa from a 6-6 conference record to 12-6 and off the bubble. He really put the team on his back but for most of the year he wasn't a great offensive threat and the offense bogged down a lot. Defensively he gambled a lot and didn't always rotate/help.Two years ago it was "Marbles team" He was also really really good but it was him then a whole bunch of guys who may have been good players but didn't always have clearly defined roles.

This year- the reward of having so much experience- every starter appears to know and excel at their role . It's not really Utoffs team or Woodys team or whoever. Each of the starters really owns their role which has resulted in some elite play by all 5 such as Woodys defense and rebounding, Joks offense, Utoffs offense and shot blocking, Clemmons shut down defense , MGs toughness and intelligence. Not to mention the bench embracing their roles. Don't know where it will end and I know the stressful games are coming but the last month and a half have so fun and relaxing.

This team is tougher. They play through contact instead of complaining about being fouled. You have to love Woodys defense and rebounding.

I think the best thing is that the new guys are getting an excellent first hand experience of what it takes to compete and win at the national level.

Go Hawkeyes!!!

Its defensively and on the boards. Iowa has always had length under Mccaffery, but this team uses their length much better than previous teams on the defensive end. Theyre more active. Then you have a defensive bulldog like Clemmons who will get the opponents best perimeter offensive player, Gesell is a great defender as well. Throw that in with Mccaffery changing defenses, it's tough to go against.

The 1-2 punch of Jok & Uthoff with their consistent outside shooting along with the versatility of Uthoff able to take people inside and out has made this team different from other past teams. Woodbury becoming a monster rebounder plus Uthoff's blocking shots and especially out on the perimeter has really made this team better defensively! But total team defense and their scrappiness has been an earmark of what this team has been all season long!

It's like Woody has got it now. Knows what to do and what not to do in order to help the team.

His rebounding has been insane and kinda makes laugh actually. I see a ball dropping towards a scrum of players and I panic because I don't see any Iowa players getting off the floor. The ball is fought for and out of the pack emerges Woody with the ball. Happens a lot.

Love the scrappiness.

It's the new rules and emphasis on old rules.

We're playing basketball again folks, no more hockey. And I'll wager we're up about twenty spots defensively simply because there are that many teams not getting away with being thugs...and some of them right in our own Big Ten. Right, Izzo? :)

I think you have 4 guys (Jok, Clemmons, Woody and Uthoff), playing the best basketball of their careers in one season and that core group of juniors and seniors is probably sick of being close. Gesell has been up and down but is a vital part of this team, and I think him hitting a couple shots against Illinois could be his jump start.

You have 4 seniors and Jok who have been really close to being a great team and I think the last few years if Marble, or White was having an off night it took a lot to overcome it. Now you have all of these guys that can and have stepped up. If Uthoff struggles early, Jok steps up, or Clemmons hits a couple of shots. Woody has been a man down low lately and a huge thing for him this year, he has stayed out of foul trouble for the most part.
