Thomsen vs Teske??

Who did Clark wrestle his senior year at state in the quarters or semis? I remember that was a really good match up. Forgot the opponent.

Though that night be true, my guess is he may have been referring to a match with Eric Devos. Which, come to think of it, might not have been senior year. Came down to the wire.
He beat Devos 6-2 in the final his senior year.

Yep thanks for the reminder it was Hathaway which was the biggest quarter final match that year at state. Had to avenge his only HS loss to become a 4xer.

Urbandale tournament, Sorenson's jr. year he wrestled up a weight class to get a shot at Meeks.

Back then I really thought Meeks was the best Iowan since Dave Kejlgard.

Yea I can’t wait to watch these two nationally ranked iowa boys go at it. Each going to other B1G programs while the hawks have a glaring hole at 133. Just great

Teske has a long ways to go to be considered a 133. Thomsen was a Nebby lean all the way.

I was able to speak to Alex and his family at the world trials in Lincoln this past March. Great family that loves their wrestling. After a few hours of conversation I asked mom, what happened with Iowa, if you don't mind me asking.
Both her and Alex perked up saying they loved Iowa and wanted to go there, but once Iowa got Teasdales verbal they never called Alex back. Then when Teasdale backed out and Iowa tried to get back in but Nebraska had already sealed the deal. Too little too late. He had told Nebraska he was committed and he wasn't gonna change.
I got the feeling that their was no hard feeling just the nature of the business and the Teasdale de-commitment really hurt Iowa.

I like both guys. Always loved Thomsen's slickness, but he never quite made it to the top of the heap, and I was on the fence about whether Iowa should pursue him. I will not be at all surprised if he does well at Nebraska. Looking forward to this match in the meantime.

Damn, but great to hear this kid stuck to his guns. Can't say the same for Teasdale, although I understand to a point.

Who would you say is the better rider between these two?

Typically that seems to be who pulls these types of matches out. Thomsen seems to have a history of being ridden by national guys IIRC.

Ill go with Teske.

Teske has been ridden a bunch as well. Both losses at super 32 he had the saddle on.

Good info. Can't blame either party.

I’ll go 10-5 Thomsen.

If I had to guess for college I’d say Alex is a 4x AA with a chance at 1 title. All at 125. This is assuming Fix is at 33.

IAwrestle.com will have a replay of it sat or Sun 4 sure. I see internet had Thomson ranked higher. Have they met before?

Wow that's a great story. Love the post. By stopping our efforts after GT verbal'd we lost out on Alex and on JRent, both at Nebby and both good options at 33 and possibly 41. That's a kick in the nuts. Huge oversight on our part.

Interesting because the story around Teske is very similar. He apparently had a half scholarship offer. After the PSU commitment and Hidlay fell through, they're upping the offer to Teske. Too late at that point.

That's the problem with 9.9. If the primary falls through, the backup options are likely already gone.

The only oversight was trusting Teasdale. They are not going to be able to string along people to possibly come in just in case Teasdale flakes out. In hind site they should have said the heck with Teske who does not project to 133 and either went with Jrent or Thomsen.

Obviously they did not have the other money to offer until they new Hidlay was out.

I agree with your last point, but GTdropped out long before the older class had to sign letters, so there was time, if we had built a relationship.

It might be mostly about money, but it's also about making a kid feel important.

From what CatCoach is saying, we stopped all positive communications, which if true was a bad move.

More I think about it, kinda pissed we didn't get Thomsen. How do we keep losing these in-state studs. ... oh well, onward and upward.

I was a teammate of Kjelgaard. Dave was fun to watch. So was Bellows, worst he ever finished in highschool was 3rd senior year.
Yes and yes. I student taught and coached at LC when Dick Bleth was still the head coach and Keith M was his assistant. And then later when I was coaching in central iowa we saw LC at the Fort Dodge invite each year.

Lot of talent back then at LC.

Remind me of how that match between Meeks and Sorensen. I know Meeks was an undefeated four timer so he obviously won but what was the score??

Also, I'm gonna take Teske. I've always liked his attitude, motor, and aggressiveness. Really I'm just excited this match is going to happen even if neither are hawk commits.

I don't blame Tom or M* for the Teasdale situation. The consequence of going all-in on top talent is that you don't have money for multiple guys (e.g. Murin, Turk, Happel). So it's not fair to say we should've kept pushing hard for Renteria or Thomsen after Teasdale verballed. That's damned if you do and damned if you don't. (Note to Pablow, I just defended Brands.)

It's reasonable, however, to suggest that we should maintain contact with all prospects until the ink is dry. (Or, in the case of Aaron Brooks, initiate any contact at all.) As Gable would say, don't let up at the edge of the mat.

Teasdale should come back to Iowa then.

F*** Penn State.
