Thoughts after Purdue

A few random thoughts after yesterday's win, sorry if any of these have been discussed at length already:

- 3 second violation...does this rule still exist in college basketball? My goodness Haas just camps out in the lane, spending 10+ seconds with a foot never leaving the lane. Perhaps I don't understand the rule correctly, but he basically committed a 3 second violation on every offensive possession he was in the game.

- one of the better comebacks I've seen, just a steady performance by our seniors and leaders on the team. With that being said, I feel like one of the reasons we fell behind is we tend to settle for long range shots early in shot clocks way too much. I get that Fran has given Jarrod and Pete the ultimate green light, but understanding game situations a bit better might prevent things from getting so lopsided in the first place. Just because you're open from three doesn't mean you have to shoot it...sometimes a dribble or two will create a much easier shot or draw a defender that opens up someone in the lane for a bunny. I wish we didn't settle for so many 3pt shots, especially when things are falling for us

- Fran is doing a great job with playing time distribution on this team. While in a perfect world it would be nice to get some of the young kids minutes, he is trying to do one thing and one thing only and that is win basketball games. He tried to give Ellingson minutes but he just wasn't dialed in at all yesterday so he had no choice but to pull him for the rest of the game. Love the play from Uhl and Baer off the bench, they have been fantastic.

- with an experienced team, a let down wouldn't be expected coming off two big wins, lets hope the team stays hungry with Nebraska coming up in two days, it would be a shame to win two great games to start out the season only to give one back with a loss at home against an inferior team.

Go Hawks!

in watching replay of the game....didn't see the lane violation..they were close..but seemed to get one foot out just in time.

Ok, that could be it, thought u had to get both feet out not just one. That would explain a lot.

There where several lane violations by all their posts. Swanigan traveled 3 times. He completely went from one side of the lane to the middle, changed his pivot foot and never dribbled.
The refs where swallowing their whistles. Pretty evident they had 2 team fouls and we had 9 with 9 minutes to go
In second half.
We that being said, we still beat them. Very impressive win!

U are right..Swanigan traveled a lot with no call...this is why college basketball is the best. Here we have one of the highest ranked freshman who struggled..and another freshman who wasn't even offered..who out played who?

Figure that one out..

Not saying Swanigan wont make his mark..I like him a lot..the only mistake he made was wearing the uniform he is wearing. He would of looked a lot better with I O W A across his chest.

Definitely saw the travels by Swanigan, my goodness but I believe Clemmons got away with a double dribble in the first half and there were a couple of out of bounds calls that went our way too. Of course the miss on the Sapp blow up hit by Hammons could be in the running for the miss call of the year. Hopefully Sapp is OK too?

Uhl is going to go off in a game at some point this season. He is developing very nicely and could be a hybrid between Uthoff's skill set and what White gave us. He is going to be fun to watch develop.

ya the dribble off the chest was interesting....we all need to knock on wood that Sapp is ok.

I thought that was Uhl's best game yesterday. He's starting to find his stroke too. If he hits the three with some consistency...guys have to come out and he's got really good handles to blow by the bigs that are guarding him. If he can get a little better finishing in traffic and dishing...he could be a great option. It's amazing how our three point shooting is opening things up in the middle for cuts and dribble drives by the guards. Teams can't sag back and stop penetration...Sap and Gesell are loving it and making plays. I like the way Fran is breaking the colts this year...he's not busting balls as much...hence the team is showing more nuts late in games.

I have historically been critical of Woodbury, but his defense inside while not spectacular or flashy, was excellent. They have possibly the best center rotation in the country.

....And if Purdue doesn't, MSU might. Costello, the fr. shot blocking machine and another clone of his are freakin' scary....Guess they may think the same about us

pretty sure they had 2 team fouls with 2:00 minutes to go in the second half. I couldn't believe it. Thats a big deal when you are trying to get steals because you can go crazy aggressive and not have to worry about putting the other team on the line.
