It was a pure joy to watch both Murrays. They're so smooth and nuanced in their game.

First half was great, they had a couple chances to really blow the doors off. Rebounding intensity was great. Rebracca was a beast.

I couldn't believe what I was watching during the second half. Whole team just look disinterested.

Love what Jbo has done for the program but I still don't get why we sees so many minutes. I get the free throw benefit but man...

Williams arena is a great facility. I wish Iowa had something with character like that. All said, the gopher fans were dead and lethargic. They could barely muster a we hate Iowa chant. It was kind of sad.

we did, it was called the Fieldhouse

It was my first time in Williams arena. The arena is a bit dated but nicer than I thought it would be from what I’ve seen on TV. Lots of great seats even in the upper sections. Iowa kept the crowd out of it most of the game but when things got tight, the crowd got loud, and the place was electric. Parking and traffic were not an issue. Seeing Keegan in person was great. His athleticism was a step above everyone else on the floor.

Did Connor even play today, is he injured? Surprised that even Sandfort had more time than Connor. A road win is always good. Next up is Rutgers, they will be tough since they took down Purdidn't.

Lots of pluses from this game:

* PMac had the best plus/minus at +11. Jordan was 2nd best at +9. Filip was +8. Keegan was +6. Weird, I know. This does not fit the narrative on here.

* Jordan & Filip led the team today with 3 steals. Impressive defense by both :) Oops, this doesn't fit the narrative on here, either.

* 4 Starters in double figures: JBo (12), Patrick (12), Filip (12), Keegan (25). Oops, another positive JBo comment. My bad.

* Iowa with 40-31 rebounding margin
* 15-7 edge in offensive rebounds
* 2nd chance points: 17-3 edge. Impressive.
* Payton had 2 HUGE assists to Keegan
* We shot 61% (28-46) from 2 point range
* Points in the paint: 52-32 edge
* Fast break points: 12-2 edge
* Iowa led for 34:48 of the 40 minutes

Concerns:

* Inconsistent 3 point shooting. Today, we were just 5-22 (23%)

* On the road, you have to make your FTs. Iowa was just 10-16 today.

* When up 23, the players' intensity went down. Can't let that happen.

Williams Arena

Williams Arena being called a great facility is debatable, especially if you get stuck behind a steal beam.

And I agree that their crowd lacked life. But when the Goofs are rolling, that place gets incredibly LOUD.

Loved getting a win in Minnesota, especially after what happened last year. I don't understand Kris having a game like he had the other night, and getting 11 minutes today. Second lowest on the team and only 2 minutes more than Peyton. That being said we've won 6 out of 7. We have our first away win, and with a win Wednesday, and Purdue possibly losing in Illinois we could be at 5 in the conference. That's better than most people thought possible at the beginning of the year. Hoping for a loud rowdy crowd Wednesday. Go Hawks!

Shocking that the players with the most minutes also led in the counting stats. Also, plus/minus is pointless to use for one game.

That should tell you how meaningful +/- is for a single game.
Also, plus/minus is pointless to use for one game.

Plus/minus stats have flaws but can show you something over the course of a season.

For a single game they are of little value.

Then why is it part of the box score? Oh, that's right, you guys are the experts when it comes to this stat. My bad, so we should just take your word for it.

I notice that you don't bring up Jbo's 3 steals, his 12 points and being perfect from the FT line; hmmm, I wonder why.

And all of you should contact the stats people and demand that they remove the plus/minus stat because you, anonymous experts on a message board, say so!!!

So you can track for season long use. If you look at BPM for the season it'll show your boy Rebraca dead last of anyone getting minutes.

He did not.

So a stat that says Keegan had the 4th best performance today is relevant?

Three steals? BFD. You didn't mention the sixth year senior double dribbling, unguarded, 30 feet from the hoop.

If he played the same minutes as Connor today we would have won easier.

If Iowa plays a team with no true post player, they have a great chance to win. If there is a true post, they will struggle. With the exception of Iowa St, Iowa has not won a game against a team with a true post.

CMac didn't play - sore back. Anyone who did had more minutes than him. 😉

Sandfort did pretty well but had a few brain farts.

Link?

And he's not my boy.

Sometimes I wonder if you clowns are actually Hawk fans.
College basketball reference, look it up. Kris Murray was 7th on the team in +/- against Indiana when he almost single handedly won the game for the Hawks. Again, it's meaningless to look at for one game. Rebraca had his best game as a Hawk today, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't be getting about 10-15 mins a game max.

I'm as much a fan as you are, I just hate it when the team doesn't reach it's full potential because of lineup mismanagement.

Yet it's part of the box score. And today's number goes against your negative JBo narrative, so I can see why you are arguing the way you are.
Lol ok just keep repeating that sentence about it being a part of the box score I guess. Some people will see whatever they want to see. I think you should be really proud of JBo's 3 for 11 effort today though.

Again, you can't mention one positive thing about JBo.

Your bias is clear. You only see what you want to see, which is anything negative you can find.

What is not clear is whether you are really a Hawk fan.

What good did you see him do outside of his scoring and FT's? He can't stay in front of anyone, and you did miss double dribble 😉

And some say Perkins should play more, yet he had a horrific turnover that led to a quick Gopher 3.

And on several occasions the guy Tony was guarding blew right by him.

But it's only JBo that can't stay in front of anyone....

Good grief.

As anyone complained about Patrick? He was 4 for 11, struggles to keep guys in front of him and had quite a few interesting shots.

Geez man you are ridiculous. Bohannon is a great shooter and has a role on this team. He just shouldn't be averaging the second most minutes on the team. That's crazy.

I'm done going back and forth on this with you, I know you will never be critical of a player or coach. Time to watch the Chiefs.

He's got a cool haircut? Seriously, I'm no JBo basher but he didn't have a very good game today. His shot was off and let's be honest about his struggles on the defensive end. He lacks the qualities of a good defender. It's not his fault that he lacks those attributes. He just does. You hope he makes up for it on the offensive end where he can be spectacular sometimes. He's had better games and this wasn't one where Fran should have played him 30 minutes.

If that's your best retort you would be really smart to remove your black and gold glasses.

You just can't acknowledge JBo in

How many Assists did Joe T. have? Saw no mention of that or is scoring and FG%. Conveniently left out?

One thing to note - Minny just took MI State to the wire in the Breslyn Center and lost on a last-second bucket. They didn't shoot as well against the Spartans (not getting the calls, similar to Iowa at Minny) but they were almost even for rebs and forced more TOs. Gives me hope for the game in East Lansing.

I think the Hawks can play with anyone, especially after MSU's loss to NW, but wasn't that a different Minnie lineup that Iowa faced tonight?

Yes, but he was injured during the MI State game at the end. Otherwise the same team. Not sure if he would have been the difference, I guess we'll find out later when they come to Iowa City in 3 weeks. 🙂
