I've been fairly diligent in watching the ticket prices across 5 of the ticket exchanges and we are starting to see a bit of a decline in the prices. On Monday, four tickets together were showing a low of about ~$830, Wednesday a low of $630, and today I saw a quad go for $550. Right now, there is a group of four listed for $546.

Wonder what the distribution of tickets to Hawkeye fans who requested will do to demand on Monday or Tuesday?

Anybody else seeing any trends out there?

On Iowa, Go Hawks

I agree, have dropped at least $100.00. I can cancel my flight (insured), hotel and car if tickets don't go down a little more. What is a killer is the 25% fees on top.

Everyone should also watch the date tickets will be mailed. I have seen a lot dated the 30th. Heck I fly out on the 30th.

Scalpers can eat those fricking tickets and choke on them before I'd make their life easy. I work too hard for my money. Can I afford it, yes. Didn't get my money by pissing it away.

Love my Hawks which makes it tough to turn down.

You can get them shipped to your hotel.

Good point regarding the fees. If it is really 25%, I may wait to see them drop a bit more. This article shows a 15-17% fee at StubHub.

I had no idea that some were shipping on the 30th. Good to know. Will have to ask for expedited shipping or have them sent to my temp house in Pasadena.

While you will have fans looking, you will also have tickets pouring onto the market.

StubHub guarantees you will have tickets in hand 2 days before the event. So theoretically latest they should arrive is 30th. I think they begin mailing tickets on the 18th, so if they are received on the 21st / 22nd and turned around and shipped before Christmas you should have them before the 30th presuming the person is responsible.

Disagree - I think tickets are going up. Keep in mind about 25K locals go to this event every year not caring who plays. Once all the requests are denied by Iowa and Standford and the people realize they don't have tickets they will be trying to get them through the websites. These people are not looking or buying right now as they are holding out hope they get selected. The only reason the tickets may go down is because Iowans are known to be tight azzes thus they just wont be going.

Paying $800 for tow tickets is not being a tight azzes. Its being realistic and realizing that there is more to life than Iowa football. You have to put food on the table.

The flights are also going up dramatically. If you can find one. I don't think I'm going to be able to go and I'm sick.

Check flying in to Vegas, 31/2 hour drive or San Diego, 2 hour drive.I am flying to San Diego.

Could always drive to Chicago, maybe cheaper airfares from there. West side of tat look at KC.

Where there is a will, the is a way. In 81 my brother and I made the 24 hour drive. Of course stopped off in Vegas for a little fun! Would never convince by better half to take a road trip today, but it would be a blast in a motor home.

Go Hawks!

I am not going, but I would exhaust all options price wise for LAX, Burbank, Orange County, Ontario, Long Beach airports before I flew into a place like Vegas and drove.

Folks.....here is another POSSIBLE source for tickets. I believe she is an Iowa grad and in the event business. I have a connection with her through LinkedIn but no other connection than that so please....you are on your own. Just thought it may be worth a shot for those still trying to find tickets. Not sure how high they are, etc. Her contact info is MichelleZoeller@vipsm.com

Go Hawks! Wish I could be there!

Be a little careful with these drive times. As an FYI - we live in Orange County.

The drive from Vegas to LA is 4-4.5 - WITH NO TRAFFIC. However, I-15 is the only artery between the two and drops to two lanes through parts of the desert. There will likely be heavy return traffic New Year's Day from people coming back from NYE in Vegas.

Same with San Diego - 2 hrs is published time but drive all the way up to Pasadena can take 3-4.

Laguna, I will be driving North on Wednesday, mid day. Thinking of stay away from LA and driving up Temecula way. Thoughts.

Won't the iowa traffic be going in the opposite direction of the New Years Eve crowd? I plan to drive from Vegas to LA on the 30th and back to Vegas on the Second.

You should be in good shape barring a major accident

I was thinking of anyone planning to drive from Vegas to LA the morning of the game. You should be fine coming in on 12/30.

Gunner:

You should be fine coming up midday Wednesday, particularly as traffic should be lighter during the holiday period. We live about halfway between LA and SD a couple of miles inland from I-5 (or "the 5" in SoCal terms) and traffic can be just as nasty southbound as northbound at times.

With that being said ... taking the 15 north (through the Temecula area) should allow you to avoid a lot of traffic - particularly during the holiday period. You can never be sure out here - the problem with LA Basin traffic is that it's just really unpredictable - but taking this route (15 to the 210) will keep you for the most part out the core of LA and OC.

I sent the initial post just cautioning anyone who was staying in Vegas/San Diego/et al and planning on driving to Pasadena on game day.

Have fun - feel free to ping me with any other questions.

I'm seeing tickets go down a little each day with today and yesterday being the biggest drops on average. I'm not sure what will happen come Monday. I'm thinking people that don't get tickets through the U will buy tickets on the secondary market sites Monday afternoon but I hear there just aren't a lot of flights available anymore. I've heard plenty of people that said if they don't get their university tickets, they just won't go to the game.

That company is just like the others. Ticket resellers.

i'm thinking the stubhub sellers (if they truly want to sell their tickets) should probably start dropping prices closer to face value today. once the schools release their tickets tomorrow, there is going to be a LOT of options......

after the 2002 season I drove to the orange bowl in Miami and paid 15 dollars for a ticket from a scalper then he didn't have 5 bucks change so I gave him a 20 then told him to keep it, then I saw cj jones run the first kick back

but the experience in Miami has got me thinking about the rose and how I don't want to spend the money

I went the opposite. I think after Monday so many folks won't get tickets thru the athletic ticket office that prices will start to inch up.

While I was comforted by StubHub's guarantee on the tickets, I too was worried about delivery by the 30th (as some other posters mentioned). There were a few that were listed as 2nd day UPS, and I purchased two of those. They should arrive by Thursday.

You can also call into StubHub versus purchasing on their site. Tell them which tickets you are interested in and they can tell you how reputable the seller is. Online there is no information on the sellers.

Booked a flight into Palm Springs for close to $700 less than LAX. I realize the traffic will be heavy, says an hour 50 minutes. What will the actual time be? Thanks

There are almost twice as many tickets on the sites right now and prices have very gradually fell. No idea what will happen tomorrow when the schools release their tickets but I'm hoping Stanford fans will be trying to resell them bringing down prices. Either way it will be interesting to see.

great post.... they are dropping tonight and will really drop tomorrow afternoon I bet(hope)

I don't think they're dropping either---seem steady. I think the next couple of days might tell us something though. After the U of I reveals who's getting tickets today (some are learning their fate now), we'll see the reaction of those who don't get them. Will there be a spike in ticket purchases or not? I still need (2) tickets but I'm waiting this out to the last minute as I'll be driving from Phoenix.

Palm Springs is beautiful this time of the year - obviously not the LA scene but there are clearly worse places to spend a couple of days in early January.

As for traffic - again I'd say it depends on when you're driving in. If you're coming in game day, just think about it as driving from in from 100 miles for any major sporting event. Typical SoCal work related traffic should be lighter given that it's New Year's. If you're driving in towards LA/Pasadena the day or two before you should be fine.

We live about 70 miles south of Pasadena - kickoff is at 2 but we'll be on the road before 8am (although that is also tailgate related)..

Definitely go early to tailgate....you miss the traffic, the air will be clear and the mountains are beautiful. Pretty easy to get in when going early and well worth it.

Plenty of options still available if you are willing to fly from Chicago, and to/from places like Vegas, San Diego, etc and drive. I even found one this morning for under $250 round trip. If you are dead set on flying from CR to LA then yeah, you're probably out of luck.
