Tim Lester's goal was to cut our offense rank in half, going from dead last to the middle of the pack. I've said this before, but he was handed keys to a car with no engine, wheels, or steering wheel and was told to get it running in 8 months. And despite the bad QB play, mediocre receivers, and questionable OLine pass pro, he was able to keep his word.

Final 2024 Numbers
Scoring Offense - 66th
3rd Down Conversion - 65th
Redzone Offense - 25th
Rushing Offense - 20th
Points Per Game - 28.0
Total Points Scored - 336 - 68th

With what he was given, I think he did an admirable job. He also openly admitted that our pass and QB production was terrible. I think if he's given time, he'll create the offense we've been hoping for. His experience at QB will finally give us a chance to pick up someone in the portal or recruit someone who actually has talent and skill. But I don't think anyone can blame him for going away from the pass all year with who was under center and having a generational running back on the team.

And with our defense taking a step back, it was our offense at certain times keeping us in the game. When was the last time we could say that about an Iowa offense? There's going to be a lot of attrition next year, so we'll have to have a shopping spree in the portal.

But I think with everything considered, he deserves all the praise. Give him a good QB, and watch out.

Lester is a clear upgrade, but he's had his ups and downs. Choked away the ISU game with his red zone playcalling
Yep, definitely got too cute. I think it was in part to him not understanding that we don't have the talent to execute a short pass to the endzone. Didn't make that mistake again all season, and it was what led to the utilization of the Sullivan package. At least he learns from his mistakes.

He did well with what he had to work with and the time he was on board. Hopefully we see some progress over the next year in creating an offense that is actually capable of passing the ball.

I'm less interested in what the record will be next year than what the offense looks like after Lester has a full year to work with. I think the year will be challenging in terms of wins and losses for myriad reasons. If they can show progress in creating a modern offense I'll be optimistic for the future. If not then my personal interest is going to wane.

if we had lester for the last 6 years we would been in a cxouple more ccgs and imo have a b1g championship and been in playoffs. lost opportunity with some incredible defenses in those years

other than passing he vastly exceeded my expectations
I honestly thought anything over 100th in total offense would be fine and top 80 would be the high point

The guy not only set a goal, but he achieved it. In the real world that not only deserves praise but a raise. If not that, then just get the hell out of his way and let him operate, and give him the full support of the resources he needs to keep improving.

Definitely a big improvement but it‘l be interesting to see how much of that was KJ2 and how much was scheme/playcalling.
